I pray these lines find everyone doing well. All is well here at Incarnation Central, big week for the parish – Confirmations and First Holy Communions have happened over the past week. I want to take this opportunity to Congratulate all who have made these great milestones in their faith journey. I also would like to Thank Bishop Parkes for being at Incarnation Church to confirm our youth, it is truly an honor to have had the Bishop with us! To those who have received the sacraments, know that the older you get the more your faith will increase, and you will come to a much better understanding of the gifts you have received. We hear in our Gospel today that Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches. In today’s world there are so many different distractions and events or things vying for our attention. Unfortunately, people with no faith easily get caught up in the things of the world. We, on the other hand, are blessed to be connected with our Creator, our Savior and our God!! This is the plan of our God but as we always have freedom, He counts on us to make the right decisions and stay connected to Him, without Him the world is a scary place – with Him we know peace and joy because we know where we truly belong! Have a great week! God Bless You! -Love, Fr. Mike

We are the branches

“I am the vine, you are the branches.” – John 15:5

Many of us are concerned about energy these days. Scientists and engineers are constantly working to find cleaner and more efficient sources of energy. We see gas prices on the rise. When that happens, we may consider purchasing a car that gets better gas mileage or a hybrid. Same with an air-conditioners and many appliances. Over time they become less efficient and more costly to operate, so you consider replacing them. So how does this energy talk go with this week’s Gospel from John, where Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches?” Jesus explains that we are part of Him by using the imagery of a vine, branches, and a vine grower. A vine must have branches to grow and prosper. We are the branches. We cannot reach our best potential without Jesus, the vine, to help us grow. The vine needs plenty of sunlight, water, and good soil to grow. But if there are branches that sap the energy from the rest of the plant, then the vine grower will cut it down and destroy it. For us to grow spiritually we need prayer, study, and action. We must give God our praise and prayer by opening our hearts and minds to Him. We study scripture to grow in wisdom and understanding. We put our faith into action by helping our neighbors and community. By these things, we produce good fruit for the body of Christ, the Church. If we fall short in these areas, then we are not producing the fruits the God wants from us. We become useless, preventing the plant from growing and flourishing. We can suffer spiritually and emotionally, potentially dragging others down with us. We need to strive for growth and produce the best we can for the good of the Kingdom, our community and ourselves. Our energy comes through the Holy Spirit working within us. We must persevere in study, prayer and action by Courageously Living the Gospel at home, at work and in our community. -Bishop Gregory Parkes

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

MAY 2, 2021

Mark your calendars for the Ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Israel “Izzie” Hernandez on May 15, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. Seating will be limited within the Cathedral, but the ordination will also be live streamed at dosp.org/livestream, on Facebook.com/diostpete, and on YouTube.com/dioceseofstpete. Deacon Israel “Izzie” Antonio Hernandez, was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Although this is true, his family is from the island of Puerto Rico. His parents are Israel and Daisy Hernandez. He is the youngest of three: his sisters are Judyvette and Meredith Hernandez. Deacon Izzie studied at the University of South Florida, where he got his degree in Business Marketing. He also has his Philosophy degree from St. John Vianney College Seminary. His home parish is Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O’Lakes, Florida, where he spent many of his college years as a Core Team Member, ministering to both the middle and high school youth groups. Deacon Izzie worked for his uncle, Richard Pagan, who owns his own carpet cleaning business. He was employed with him all through college and spent six years working for him. Some of Deacon Izzie’s hobbies/interests are; drawing, playing sports (particularly basketball and soccer), superheroes, praise and worship style adoration, and family time. Family is so very important to Deacon Izzie, that his Chalice was handpicked by his parents and two sisters, and given as a gift from family in Puerto Rico, Chicago, New York, Alabama, and Florida. As for his call to the priesthood, Deacon Izzie said it was during his time of ministering to the youth and his own experience as a teen, that he was drawn to serve the Church, the people of God. He often quotes this, “It was during adoration at Camp Covecrest, that I heard the Lord say, ‘Just give it a year’”. As a seminarian for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Izzie has served in the following parishes: St. Michael (Hudson), Incarnation (Tampa), and Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle (St. Petersburg). There will be a Solemn Vespers Service on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 7:00 pm at Christ the King Parish in Tampa (821 S. Dale Mabry Highway). All are welcome to attend this prayer service, as social distancing permits. The Vespers Service will be livestreamed on Christ the King’s website at ctk-tampa.org/live-mass.
