I pray these words find all doing well. All is going well here at Incarnation central. It really is amazing to realize that school is over, and we have approached summer mode. It has been such a crazy time, but it feels like we are finally turning a corner. I have been vaccinated but still wear a mask at times during Mass for those people who are still in masks themselves (due to being cautious or because they have chosen not to get vaccinated.) We have to meet people where they are. I know Jesus would do this – if its good enough for Him its good enough for me! LOL Today, once again we see an example of Jesus meeting the people “where they are!” The gospel tells us that Jesus only spoke in parables to make sure that the people understood what was being said and so that they would be able to incorporate it into their lives. When I was a kid in Massachusetts, we had a priest that would visit the parish for the summers to help out. The man was educated – I’ll give him that BUT – nobody understood or knew what the heck he was saying. I was 10 but my mom and others, neighbors who were also parishioners would always say, if they got this priest, we got the homily that no one understands. Being a priest now I have the knowledge that this priest was very inappropriate and wrong in his manner of speaking. To have the education is fine BUT you also have to be smart enough to speak in ways everyone can understand. Soooo – The next time Fr. (you fill I the blank) speaks over your head it is your job to let him know that he needs to be more like Jesus and speak in ways that everyone can understand. You are very lucky to have me as pastor because from the neck up – I’m 10 years old!! My homilies will be understood. And who knows – maybe some day I’ll grow up. God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike Next week, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which unites us and Catholics around the world more closely with the Holy Father in two ways: it supports the structures of the Holy See through which the Pope governs the Church as well as his charitable efforts to assist victims of war, oppression, natural disasters, and others most in need. Please be generous. For more information, visit http://www.peterspence.va/en.html.
