Let go and let God
“Give it up to the Lord.” You may have heard this phrase used before. It’s based on this Sunday’s scripture from chapter 11 of Matthew’s Gospel. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.” These are often comforting words for us but may not always be for another person you are sharing with. Perhaps they are in the midst of a difficult experience or trial and they may not be feeling it. Sometimes life gives us a tough stretch where things are just not going right. Some might ask, “When is this going to end? When are things going to ease up?” You may have even taken the words to heart and prayed, “Ok, Jesus, I’m giving this to you. Now do Your work.” But the outcome was not what not what you were hoping for. This is not to say that we shouldn’t offer things up…. we should. On the surface, this scripture seems to contradict other passages like, “take up your cross and follow me.” You might ask, “So what is it, ‘carry the cross, or let Him carry the load”?” It is difficult to have it both ways, yet that’s what we are called to do. Sometimes our wishes and plans are not in God’s plans. We have to earnestly and humbly open ourselves up to what God has in store for us and what life throws our way. Then when things do get tough, and they will, we can turn it over to God while still doing our part. Too often, either we want to take care of the situation ourselves or do nothing and just throw our hands up. In reality, taking care of the situation is allowing the Holy Spirit guide you in your actions. We have to “let go and let God.” It’s easy to say, but hard to do. Pray for the patience, the humility and the courage to turn your life, your heart and your soul over to him. I promise that things will be easier if you do so. -Bishop Gregory Parkes
Hello, I pray these lines find all doing well. I am texting the secretary my article as Fr. Brian and myself are awaiting COVID test results to come back, so we are each quarantined. I am so grateful for our new safe technology. Deacon Izzy (our transitional Deacon who is with us for the summer) is also quarantined, we are giving him quite the experience LOL. Today's Gospel tells us simply to cast our cares upon God. This is perfect time for our reading as we do not really know from one moment to the next what we will experience. But, if we remember that the Lord is always with us, we truly have nothing to fear because He sees us through anything and everything. Enjoy your freedom, being cooped up til you get results is no fun! Have a great week! -Love, Fr. Mike Confessions Every Saturday From 2:30 - 3:30pm

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Incarnation Church welcomes back Deacon Frank Julian and his wife Barbara! Six years ago Deacon Frank left Incarnation when he was reassigned to the Catholic Student Union at USF. The Catholic Student Union (CSU) at the University of South Florida is a mission of the Diocese of St. Petersburg ministering to students as they navigate through college life and explore Catholicism while building friendships and growing in their faith. Campus ministry includes retreats, bible studies, faith formation, and recreational activities based on worship, evangelization, discipleship, service, and student leadership. The mission also includes a permanent community of parishioners including faculty, staff, alumni, and local residents who assist the mission and attend mass at the chapel. All are welcome to join in the Celebration of the Eucharist and continue to explore their Catholic faith journey. As the only deacon at the center, I supported Father Justin Paskert in helping achieve the CSU mission. In the six plus years I was there, I witnessed a tremendous growth in the campus ministry. The chapel and the grounds were given a fresh new and welcoming look. The vacant land around the chapel became the site of student housing which had a waiting list by the second year of its completion. The congregation grew from three partially attended masses to two full masses and one with standing room only. In addition, a mass was added on campus at in the Marshall Center. It was so inspiring to see these young people, at the age when so many pull away from the church, not only embracing their Catholic faith but reaching out to other students on campus. Although most of my service was at the CSU, I did assist Father Mike Smith at Corpus Christi and conducted a weekly bible study there. Barbara and I are now looking forward to a new chapter in our lives back at Incarnation after 6 years. And we look forward to the challenges ahead.

Suelta tus riendas y déjate llevar por Dios
“Entrégaselo a Dios”. Quizás has oído esta frase antes.
