A HUMBLE KING

Like a tonal center in music, the note to which we keep returning in today’s readings is humility. We wait in joyful expectation for the coming of our Lord as King. But what we are told to expect and rejoice over is a meek and humble king, riding on an ass. Not horses or chariots of the great and mighty, but a humble beast carries the Ruler whose dominion stretches “from the River to the ends of the earth” (Zechariah 9:10). This King comes to banish the tools of the warrior and bring peace. No wonder that a weary world rejoices and gives thanks to God! READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday:

Gn 28:10-22a; Ps 91:1-4, 14-15ab; Mt 9:18-26 Tuesday: Gn 32:23-33; Ps 17:1b, 2-3, 6-7ab, 8b, 15; Mt 9:32-38 Wednesday: Gn 41:55-57; 42:5-7a, 17-24a; Ps 33:2-3, 10-11, 18-19; Mt 10:1-7 Thursday: Gn 44:18-21, 23b-29; 45:1-5; Ps 105:16-21; Mt 10:7-15 Friday: Gn 46:1-7, 28-30; Ps 37:3-4, 18-19, 27-28, 39-40; Mt 10:16-23 Saturday: Gn 49:29-32; 50:15-26a; Ps 105:1-4, 6-7; Mt 10:24-33 Sunday: Is 55:10-11; Ps 65:10-14; Rom 8:18-23; Mt 13:1-23 [1-9]

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Rejoice heartily, O Jerusalem! For see, your savior comes (Zechariah 9:9-10). Psalm — I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God (Psalm 145). Second Reading — The one who raised Christ from death will give life to your mortal bodies also (Romans 8:9, 11-13). Gospel — Come, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:25-30). 2

Message from the Prayer Shawl Ministry Need to find out Mass times? If you are traveling, you can always find a church and a Mass schedule by visiting www.masstimes.org. May you and your loved ones know the rest, refreshment, and new life that comes only from Christ Ěś during these summer months and always.

Our Food Bank has new hours of operation: They are open on Wednesdays and Fridays ONLY from 3:00pm – 4:30pm. They also need the following items: canned fruit, pasta and pasta sauce.

Faith & Family Women's Group has evolved from Pope Francis's mission of the importance of family life within our Catholic faith. The focus of this new ministry is to provide an opportunity for women of all ages to gather, get to know each other and have fun while building family-focused events the enƟre parish community can enjoy. These simple events will have a wide range of appeal and the Ɵme commitment to parƟcipate is flexible. You choose which events you want to be involved in and how much Ɵme you can give to each. Have more Ɵme in the Summer than the Fall? No problem! Do you prefer to be a behind-the-scenes planner or out in front with the crowd? No maƩer your style, we have a place for you where you can feel comfortable and enjoy parƟcipaƟng!

Diocesan & Community Events We invite you to the Diocesan Hispanic Mass in honor of our Lady of Carmel of the Maipu, Patroness of Chile, where we will conclude the V DIOCESAN ENCUENTRO Saturday, October 14, 2017 4 p.m. Cathedral of St. Jude The Apostle Tel. 727-344-1611 Ext. 5471 www.dosp.org St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa is recruiting special volunteers for its “Companions on The Journey” program, to accompany dying patients who would otherwise be alone. An Invitation from the Office of the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute

Pray & Reflect: July 9, The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Is God Calling You to Serve as a Lay Ecclesial Minister in His Church? “…you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him…” (Romans 8:9) The word “dwell” means to occupy, to inhabit, to live within us. Christ desires to reach the world, beginning with your world and your witness. The LPMI seeks both individuals contemplating service in the church as well as those already involved in parish ministry. The formation received in the LPMI program can benefit everyone that attends – you will go forward with confidence in the good work you do! “Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.” (Saint Pope John Paul II) Ask yourself: Am I willing to step out fearlessly to enhance my spirituality and grow in knowledge of my faith? What is holding me back? New classes begin September 9, 2017. Registrations are due in the LPMI office no later than September 4, 2017. To speak with someone about the LPMI program, contact Dale Brown by calling 727-344-1611, ext. 5458 or email LPMISEPI@DOSP.ORG. Program brochures and registration forms are available online at the LPMI website: http:// dosp.org/lpmi/ 6
