MISAS EN ESPAÑOL:

USING OUR TIME WISELY A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey. In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and always, we can manage our daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to treasure not earthly wealth, but God alone. 8220 W. Today’s Gospel speaks of possessions and the problems that can arise from an overabundance. I feel like I am experiencing this in a very real way having left a house with roughly ten rooms to now living in roughly four rooms – too much stuff – not enough room. I am really learning the lesson of letting go and downsizing. What Jesus wants us to learn and understand and what Ecclesiasticus is telling us is that we are to live for the future. We are to focus and live for Heaven. Please allow me a clarification, to have earthly things, even many things, is fine as long as we are not totally attached to them AND as long as they do not define us. An example being that we need the newest cell phone to “keep up with the Jones’s “ – the newest car, a certain neighborhood etc. Our primary self-worth should always be that First and foremost – we are a child of God. Nothing will define us and get us into focus if we center our lives on God. Yes, this life goes by quickly but if God is the primary center then we are on a track which extends past this life into eternity with our first Love-Father, Son and Holy Spirit! God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Vanity of vanities! All things are vanity! (Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23). Psalm — If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Psalm 90). Dear Parishioners, The purpose for our ministry is to provide comfort, warmth, and love through the articles we hand crochet or knit. Among the items are shawls, lap blankets, baby blankets, and chemo caps. We provide these items to those children and adults that are gravely sick, recovering from surgery, a severe injury, fighting cancer. If you knit or crochet, or would like to learn how to, please join our ministry. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month (September - May Only) at 7:00 p.m. in the Faith Formation Office. Or if you would like to help the ministry, donations of yarn are always welcome. Please call or visit the parish office if you or a loved one are in need of one of these items.

Calling all middle schoolers, mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 11, 2019 as we kick off our Middle School Youth Group! Stay tuned for more details.

Night English Bible Study Group

Incarnation’s Tuesday Night English Bible Study Group will begin Ascension Press’ eight week study, “Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible” on September 3rd from 7:00-9:00pm. The Bible is at the heart of our faith and our relationship with God. It is the place where our Heavenly Father speaks to us with love. It is a rich source of wisdom, encouragement, instruction and solace. In this study, dynamic presenter Jeff Cavins will show you how to read the Bible so that you can actually understand it. Aided by a color-coded Bible TimelineTM Chart that arranges the key people, places, and events of Scripture in chronological order, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will help you discover the story of salvation history and understand how you fit into God’s marvelous plan of salvation. The cost for a workbook is $19.95. Each participant will also need a Catholic bible and should have access to a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For additional information or to enroll, please call either Donna Burch @813-541-8506 or Peggy Kelly at 813-855-8025.

Prayer for Protection against Storms & Hurricanes O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past Tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to Plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. 6

ST.
