19th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
AUGUST 9, 2020 I pray these lines find all doing well, all is good here. If you are
Place your trust in the Lord
Last week, we heard the story of the miraculous feeding of the 5000 in the Gospel according to Matthew. This week, we pick up with Matthew’s Gospel of Jesus instructing the disciples to get into a boat and meet him on the other side while he dismissed the crowds and spent time alone praying. Meanwhile the disciples’ boat was floundering offshore in the stormy winds. Jesus appeared to them walking on the sea. Jesus appears to them in their time of need, but they don’t believe it’s Him. Peter asks Jesus to prove Himself by giving Peter the ability to walk on the water. The Lord does so, but the wind distracted Peter and he became frightened and began to sink. “Jesus, save me,” Peter cried, and the Lord was there to catch him. Those in the boat were convinced that Jesus was the Son of God. How often do we become distracted from God and put our attention elsewhere? It’s easy to happen in our everyday lives—at home, work, school, even church. I’m sure there are some who come to church and instead of focusing on worship, they might be thinking about the ball game later that day, meal preparation, or something going on at work. Other times, we may be in difficult or challenging situations and instead of turning to God for help, we try to take everything on ourselves which can often lead to more problems. Let us learn from the disciples to have no doubt or to lose faith, but instead, to embrace the Lord and trust in Him. If we don’t, we may feel like we’re drowning in the difficulties and anxieties of life. Have the courage in your doubt and weakness to reach out to God. He’ll stretch out His hand to save you, as He’s done many times before. -Bishop Gregory Parkes Confessions Every Saturday From 2:30 - 3:30pm

only reading my bulletin article and not attending my Masses where I will preach this weekend – Blessed are you!!! I say this because, as you know, everyone has their favorite Bible accountings and favorite books. Two of my favorites are highlighted today, Our Gospel as well as our first reading so it’s gonna be a LLOOONNGG homily this weekend!! I am only kidding –sort of. We hear today about Jesus walking on the water. Also highlighted is St. Peter who gets “it” right at first but then loses it. So once again for poor St. Peter it is “a swing and a miss!” Peter calls out to Jesus to call him out to walk on the water with Him, and Jesus does. Amazingly Peter is walking on the water with Jesus but then Peter does what so many of us do, he took his eyes and his focus off of Jesus and looked at the present situation, the rough surroundings, he then begins to sink. How often do we do this in our own lives, when things are tough we call out to the Lord, we ask for His help – but instead of keeping our eyes on Him, we look at what we are going through, “What if this happens?” “What if what I pray for does not come at the time, I want it?” “What if my prayer is not heard?” WE START TO SINK!!! Because we are not trusting, we are forgetting that, with God on our side – (And He always is,) anything and everything is always gonna be fine! Whatever it is you are presently going through, bring it to the feet of Jesus and leave it there – then simply focus on HIM. Jesus will never let us sink, as with Peter He will reach out and grab us if we ever forget and lose our gaze on HIM. I pray you all have a Blessed week. God Bless You, Love, Fr. Mike

Prayer for Protection against Storms & Hurricanes O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to Plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. PRAYER FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS God of everlasting goodness, you sent your Son among us to bring healing, peace, and reconciliation to our weary world. Be with all health care workers and their assistants in this time of the Coronavirus pandemic. As they continue Jesus’ ministry of care, renew them in mind, body, and spirit. Keep them safe from infection and illness, and may Christ’s healing presence flow through Them as they serve those entrusted to their care. We ask this in His name, Christ the healer, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

- Monseñor Gregory Parkes LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA 2 Cor 9:6-10; Sal 112 (111):1-2, 5-9; Jn 12:24-26 Ez 2:8 — 3:4; Sal 119 (118):14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131; Mt 18:15, 10, 12-14 Miércoles: Ez 9:1-7; 10:18-22; Sal 113 (112):1-6; Mt 18:15-20 Jueves: Ez 12:1-12; Sal 78 (77):56-59, 61-62: Mt 18:21 — 19:1 Viernes: Ez 16:1-15, 60, 63 [59-63]; Is 12:2-3, 4bcd-6; Mt 19:3-12 Sábado: Vigilia: 1 Cr 15:3-4, 15-16; 16:1-2; Sal 132 (131):6-7, 9-10, 1314; 1 Cor 15:54b-57; Lc 11:27-28Día: Ap 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab; Sal 45 (44):10-12, 16; 1 Cor 15:20-27; Lc 1:39-56 Domingo: Is 56:1, 6-7; Sal 67 (66):2-3, 5, 6, 8; Rom 11:13-15, 29-32; Mt 15:21-28 Lunes: Martes:
marcha bien. COMENZAMOS A HUNDIRNOS!!!!!!!
