HOUSEHOLDS IN GOD’S SERVICE In the ancient world, “household” was a wide-reaching concept. When Joshua today speaks of his household serving the Lord, he meant not just those people who lived inside his walls or those related to him by blood or marriage; he meant slaves or servants and their families, and anyone indebted to him in any way. Even his livestock and other possessions would be consecrated to service of God. In our world, we value allowing individuals their freedom to choose how they live, and wouldn’t think of offering our pets to the service of God. But, as we discern our vocation as disciples baptized into Christ, we can come to realize how far-ranging the “households” of our lives still are: how we act toward our spouses, children, roommates or anyone we live with; our behavior with neighbors; or in public as we encounter many “strangers” every day in stores or traffic who suddenly are “next door” to us. How can we use our time, our resources, or gifts for selfless reasons rather than personal gain? No matter what life our witness to the Good News calls us to, we all have a “household” that must be consecrated to service of the Lord our God. TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — The LORD, our God, protected us along our entire journey (Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b). Psalm — Taste and see the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 34). Second Reading — Christ nourishes and cherishes the church because we are members of his body (Ephesians 5:21-32 [5:2a, 2532]). Gospel — We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God (John 6:60-69).

READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: 2 Thes 1:1-5, 11-12; Ps 96:1-5; Mt 23:13-22 Tuesday: 2 Thes 2:1-3a, 14-17; Ps 96:10-13; Mt 23:23-26 Wednesday: 2 Thes 3:6-10, 16-18; Ps 128:1-2, 4 -5; Mk 6:17-29 Thursday: 1 Cor 1:1-9; Ps 145:2-7; Mt 24:4251 Friday: 1 Cor 1:17-25; Ps 33:1-2, 4-5, 1011; Mt 25:1-13 Saturday: 1 Cor 1:26-31; Ps 33:12-13, 18-21; Mt 25:14-30 Sunday: Dt 4:1-2, 6-8; Ps 15:2-5; Jas 1:1718, 21b-22, 27; Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

“Wisdom is seeing with God’s eyes.” – Pope Francis Scripture and the Tradition of the Catholic Church provide an abundance of wisdom, though it can often be challenging to apply it to our lives. To help you learn to gather and live with greater wisdom, Incarnation will begin an eight-week Bible study - Wisdom: God’s Vision for Life beginning on Tuesday Sept 4th from 7:009:00pm in Classroom 3. Workbooks will be made available for the first twelve participants at a cost of $19.95 each. Anyone interested should call to reserve a workbook. For more information or to sign up, please contact Donna Burch at 813-541-8506 or Peggy Kelly at 813-767-9669. You will not only benefit personally from being part of this study; you will also help us to grow in fellowship as a parish as we grow closer to Christ together.

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 26, 2018

"Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what is that for so many?Âť (John 6, 9) The apostolate "Five Loaves and Two Fish" is an ecumenical collaboration service with the Lutheran Church of Tampa. Its main objective is to feed the hungry, through the organization and distribution of food from our parish donations and other community institutions. Volunteering takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Every day different activities are carried out and we only request that you commit yourself to one of these days. For more information call Fr. Francisco at 813-885-7861. Shortly we will be calling the interested parties to attend a first meeting.

Prayer for Protection against Storms & Hurricanes

Our Father in Heaven through the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, spare us during this Hurricane season from all harm. Protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Faith & Family Women's Group has evolved from Pope Francis's mission of the importance of family life within our Catholic faith. The focus of this new ministry is to provide an opportunity for women of all ages to gather, get to know each other and have fun while building family-focused events the entire parish community can enjoy. These simple events will have a wide range of appeal and the time commitment to participate is flexible. You choose which events you want to be involved in and how much time you can give to each. Have more time in the Summer than the Fall? No problem! Do you prefer to be a behind-the-scenes planner or out in front with the crowd? No matter your style, we have a place for you where you can feel comfortable and enjoy participating!
