In Our Hearts I pray these lines find all doing well. Following last week’s article, I can honestly write to you – what a great time off!!! Lots of resting, some visiting and lots of down time painting decoys and the like made for a perfect time off. This weekend’s reading is similar to one which we heard not so long ago so I would like to focus on one particular sentence which impacts our life in a major way – “whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” I’ll be using this in my homily to go to the other Masses for a different homily, so you get two takes on the Gospel The story is told of a man who converses with the Lord complaining that his cross it just too heavy to bear so his cross is taken from him and put into a room where all the crosses are kept. The Lord then brings the man into the room and there are thousands of various crosses, all different sizes, some were huge, others very small. The Lord let the man pick of any of the crosses, the man chose the smallest, lightest cross and presented to the Lord that this is the one he chose. God smiled and said, “My son, that is the cross you came in with.” What is important to realize is that sometimes we make crosses for ourselves. We place burdens upon ourselves that was NOT given to us by God. God never ever gives us more than we can handle so we need to really look at our crosses, the burdens we take on, and ask ourselves, “Is this what the Lord has asked me to carry or am I constructing my own self-made cross.” Am I taking on burdens and trials that I simply do not need to deal with and that the Lord never gave me? I promise, if we carry the Lord’s cross that He carries it with us and guides us. Although it is still a cross and not easy to carry it forms us into us being the very reflection of God. Have a great week. God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike

Compassionate Lord, we pray for those who have been devastated by recent natural disasters. We remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly. We hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss. Bring them consolation and comfort. Surround them with our prayer for strength. Bless those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation. May they have the courage to face the long road of rebuilding ahead. We ask your blessing on all those who have lost their homes, their livelihoods, their security and their hope. Bless the work of relief agencies and those proving emergency assistance. May their work be guided by the grace and strength that comes from You alone. Help us to respond with generosity in prayer, in assistance, in aid to the best of our abilities. Keep our hearts focused on the needs of those affected, even after the crisis is over. We ask this in Jesus' name. 2

This is especially important during a time of crisis so that the pastoral staff can attend to your spiritual needs and the needs of your family.  Registration helps you stay connected with your parish and helps your parish stay connected with you. Providing your contact information is important so that parishes provide you timely updates via email, direct mail, phone, etc. Once you are registered, please notify the parish office of any changes in address or phone number.  Registered active members are eligible for sponsor/godparent validation.  Census numbers may determine how many priests are assigned to a parish and how many Masses and enrichment programs are planned and scheduled. 

Tuesday Night English Bible Study Group Incarnation’s Tuesday Night English Bible Study Group will begin Ascension Press’ eight week study, “Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible” on September 3rd from 7:00-9:00pm. The Bible is at the heart of our faith and our relationship with God. It is the place where our Heavenly Father speaks to us with love. It is a rich source of wisdom, encouragement, instruction and solace. In this study, dynamic presenter Jeff Cavins will show you how to read the Bible so that you can actually understand it. Aided by a color-coded Bible TimelineTM Chart that arranges the key people, places, and events of Scripture in chronological order, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will help you discover the story of salvation history and understand how you fit into God’s marvelous plan of salvation. The cost for a workbook is $19.95. Each participant will also need a Catholic bible and should have access to a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For additional information or to enroll, please call either Donna Burch at 813-541-8506 or Peggy Kelly at 813-855 -8025.

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 15, 2019. The 2019 theme will be "Stay With Us." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

Faith Formation classes begin on 09/08/2019 and we are still in need of a few more Catechists and Catechist-aids. If you feel God is calling you to help pass on our Faith to the children and youth of our Parish, please contact Cheralyn Quevedo at (813)884-3624 and see where your gifts and talents can be used. RCIA Interested in Becoming Catholic? Is God calling you? Are you looking to deepen your relationship with Jesus and be part of His Church? If you, or anyone you may know, are interested in becoming Catholic or simply have questions regarding the Catholic faith, please contact Deacon Matt Shirina at 813-884-3624 or you can email him at dff@icctampa.org
