24th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

I pray these lines find all doing well. All is good here. Fall is well under way, I want to share that Fall is my favorite time of the year, in fact I usually make a trip up north to get my “Fall Fix” but I am going to wave it this year. To share with all of you my weakness I am a true pumpkina-holic, primarily pumpkin coffee but anything pumpkin will do. That being the case I still feel the fall due to all the pumpkin flavors. Simple things for simple minds – and you don’t get much simpler than me. LOL Today we hear my favorite Gospel, it is long but amazing! The prodigal son is one that we are used to hearing, but more times than not, if I am reading it, I cannot get through it without getting emotional. It is a true testament of how we all mess up and how God the Father is in love with us and just wants us back!!! There is a spiritual exercise in which you place yourself into the story by “being” one of the characters. And while this exercise can illuminate our imaginations it is important that we understand that we are only “the prodigal son” we are never the older brother. I have heard many say they relate better to the older son but that just means that person has more issues than we can touch on here- - we are always “The Prodigal” The beauty of that is, it doesn’t matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done, God will always forgive us and take us back. Have a great week. God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — “Why should your wrath blaze up against your own people, whom you brought out of Egypt?” (Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14). Psalm — I will rise and go to my father (Psalm 51). Second Reading — The grace of our Lord has been abundant (1 Timothy 1:1217). Gospel — There is great rejoicing in heaven and among the angels when a sinner repents (Luke 15:1-32 [1-10]). READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: 1 Tm 2:1-8; Ps 28:2, 7-9; Lk 7:1-10 Tuesday: 1 Tm 3:1-13; Ps 101:1b-3ab, 5-6; Lk 7:11-17 Wednesday: 1 Tm 3:14-16; Ps 111:1-6; Lk 7:31-35 Thursday: 1 Tm 4:12-16; Ps 111:7-10; Lk 7:36-50 Friday: 1 Tm 6:2c-12; Ps 49:6-10, 17-20; Lk 8:1-3 Saturday: Eph 4:1-7, 11-13; Ps 19:2-5; Mt 9:9-13 Sunday: Am 8:4-7; Ps 113:1-2, 4-8; 1 Tm 2:1-8; Lk 16:1-13 [10-13]

Please save the date, Saturday, October 12, 2019. Fr. Mike will be installed as pastor of Incarnation Church at the 4:30pm Mass. A light reception will follow in St. Michael’s Hall.

Prayer for Catechists

O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

This year, the Church celebrates Catechetical Sunday. The 2019 theme will be "Stay With Us." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

Faith Formation classes started on 09/08/2019 and we are still in need of a few more Catechists and Catechist-aids. If you feel God is calling you to help pass on our Faith to the children and youth of our Parish, please contact Cheralyn Quevedo at (813)884-3624 and see where your gifts and talents can be used. Tuesday Night English Bible Study Group Incarnation’s Tuesday Night English Bible Study Group will begin Ascension Press’ eight week study, “Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible” on September 3rd from 7:00-9:00pm. The Bible is at the heart of our faith and our relationship with God. It is the place where our Heavenly Father speaks to us with love. It is a rich source of wisdom, encouragement, instruction and solace. In this study, dynamic presenter Jeff Cavins will show you how to read the Bible so that you can actually understand it. Aided by a color-coded Bible TimelineTM Chart that arranges the key people, places, and events of Scripture in chronological order, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will help you discover the story of salvation history and understand how you fit into God’s marvelous plan of salvation. The cost for a workbook is $19.95. Each participant will also need a Catholic bible and should have access to a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For additional information or to enroll, please call either Donna Burch at 813-541-8506 or Peggy Kelly at 813-855 -8025.

Faith Formation is always in need of pocket folders (2 pocket folders with prongs,) pencils, crayons, glue, glue sticks and notebooks. Please contact Cheralyn Quevedo if you would like to donate any of these items. Thank you.

Fr. Mike
