I pray these lines find all doing well – and happy with last week’s proceedings. I now officially belong to Incarnation Church, paperwork all signed, sealed and sent. I am very happy to be here, it’s like I mentioned in my homily Saturday night; I have learned that being a pastor at a church is much like being a parent, you have that first child and you cannot imagine loving anyone more. Then something wonderful happens, you are gifted with a second child and find that you have a lot more love than you imagined. You still love the first and that love does not diminish, but you equally love the second. And like children, no two parishes are alike, there are both differences and similarities that help you fall in love with and appreciate both. I received some great input from my article when I mentioned the need to only pray for something once. “What about St. Monica praying for her son St. Augustine.” – which is a great point. Our Gospel this weekend also kind of refutes what I said, like somehow God knows better than I do (LOL); But I do think I’m still on the planet with my intent, so I’ll try once more. Again, my point was simply that God does hear us the first time we ask and although we can ask daily, even minute by minute if we want, God DOES already know. Please allow me another example to explain how we work differently from God. If your little bundle of joy comes to you first thing in the morning hour wanting a chocolate chip cookie, you would of course say no because it is not the time for that, breakfast first then – maybe at the ten or eleven o’clock hour - yes. But then this same bundle of joy, lets call him Egbert, hounds you every minute screaming and crying for a cookie. Egbert may get that cookie by nine due to the constant badgering. Please know GOD DOES NOT WORK THIS WAY and this is not what our Gospel is saying. God is always perfect and knows what is best for us and our loved ones. If God were to somehow “change His mind” due to our badgering it would mean that we somehow know better than God – I’m hoping my point is made. Whatever is on our heart is what we are to bring to God in prayer - our daily conversation with God. Once we truly learn to trust God and lean on Him for everything, our lives will be so much more peaceful regardless of what is weighing heavy on our hearts. So, ask, as many times as you like – then let go! God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Rom 4:20-25; Lk 1:69-75; Lk 12:13-21 Tuesday: Rom 5:12, 15b, 17-19, 20b-21; Ps 40:7-10, 17; Lk 12:35-38 Wednesday: Rom 6:12-18; Ps 124:1b-8; Lk 12:3948 Thursday: Rom 6:19-23; Ps 1:1-4, 6; Lk 12:49-53 Friday: Rom 7:18-25a; Ps 119:66, 68,76-77, 93-94; Lk 12:54-59 Saturday: Rom 8:1-11; Ps 24:1b-4ab, 5-6;Lk13:1-9 Sunday: Sir 35:12-14, 16-18; Ps 34:2-3,17-19, 23; 2 Tm 4:6-8, 16-18; Lk 18:9-14
