NEXT SUNDAY remember to turn your clocks back! I pray these lines find all doing well. All is good here but as I write it is raining like crazy, (it’s Monday morning.) It’s great weather for ducks and they have found me. We have about seven mallards which frequent a tributary where I park my truck, so I get to begin and end my day with ducks – God is so Good!! Today’s Gospel reading is one which I pray has a profound influence on how we see others. There is a made-for-TV movie called “Jesus of Nazareth.” The movie portrayed both, a self-inflated Pharisee and Matthew the tax collector (before he became a disciple.) They were in the Temple area and Jesus was narrating as the scene was unfolding. The character Matthew was crying so much as he was listening to Jesus narrate, Matthew mouthed the words as Jesus was saying “Oh God, be merciful to me a sinner” while the Pharisee was pumped up and full of himself. This helped the viewer to really enter the scene and empathize so much with Matthew, who clearly saw himself to be a sinner and longed to change. If we see ourselves better or holier than anyone, we have to be very aware that we are probably siding on the part of the Pharisee (and that is not where we want to be.) All of us are sinners, none of us get it right all the time. We need to remember that Jesus chose Matthew, just as he was. It is precisely because Jesus called Matthew that he changed and became one of the twelve. What is Jesus calling us to? Are we open to wherever we are led? God Bless You, Love, Fr. Mike TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan, nor to the widow when she pours out her complaint (Sirach 35:1214, 16-18). Psalm — The Lord hears the cry of the poor (Psalm 34). Second Reading — The Lord will rescue me from every threat (2 Timothy 4:6-8, 1618). Gospel — All who exalt themselves will be humbled; all who humble themselves will be exalted (Luke 18:9-14).

Estamos abiertos a seguirle? . Que Dios les bendiga. Padre Mike
