NOVEMBER 24, 2019

I pray these lines find all doing well. Today we celebrate the feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Growing up I always heard the celebration called Christ the King. The Church truly is brilliant, I like ‘King of the Universe” so much more because it reminds us that everything we see, experience and are is totally from God. All of it, rivers, lakes, mountains, even stars and all that we acquire by science about distant galaxies is all the artwork of Our King! Knowing that The Lord is responsible for all this it is gut wrenching to then think about today’s Gospel of the crucifixion! One of my favorite Christian rock groups growing up was the group known as Petra. One of their songs was called “Kings Ransom.” I will end my article today by quoting this song which speaks the truth more eloquently than I ever could.

“It’s such a paradox – it’s such a mystery Why a King would leave His throne to save humanity. They could not have known when they mocked Him in disgrace, they could not have known when they spit upon His face. The Rose of Sharon wore a crown of thorns that day. The carpenter had a nail right through his hand. The Master of the earth became a servant of no worth and paid a King’s ransom for my soul.” God Bless You, Love, Fr. Mike

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The Parish Office will close for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Wednesday, November 28 at 12:00pm and will reopen on Monday, December 2 at 9:00am. On Thanksgiving Day, we will have only one Mass at 8:30am. You are invited to bring your bread or wine/beverage for your Thanksgiving meal to be blessed.

Congratulations to all of the 2019 recipients of the St. Jude Medal Award! This Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, Bishop Parkes will honor one lay member from each of our parishes for their distinguished and outstanding service. Whether it’s running the food pantry at their parish or visiting the sick, these men and women share the love of Christ in many visible ways. Some of the honorees lead their parish music ministry or are dedicated catechists; some are liturgical coordinators or organize the weekly fish fry. Whatever the offerings they provide, they exemplify gratefulness to God’s blessings in their service to his people. Mrs. Longina Alvarez from our parish is a recipient this year! Congratulations Longina and thank you for all you do for our parish!!

LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Dn 1:1-6, 8-20; Dn 3:52-56; Lc 21:1-4 Martes: Dn 2:31-45; Dn 3:57-61; Lc 21:5-11 Miércoles: Dn 5:1-6, 13-14, 16-17, 23-28; Dn 3:62-67; Lc 21:12-19 Jueves: Dn 6:12-28; Dn 3:68-74; Lc 21:20-28 Día de Acción de Gracias—sugerencia: Eclo 50:22-24; Sal 145 (144):2-11; 1 Cor 1:3-9; Lc 17:11-19 Viernes: Dn 7:2-14; Dn 3:75-81; Lc 21:29-33 Sábado: Rom 10:9-18; Sal 19 (18):8-11; Mt 4:18-22 Domingo: Is 2:1-5; Sal 122 (121):1-9; Rom 13:11-14; Mt 24:37-44
