I pray these lines find all doing well. So amazing to think we are in the season of Advent, week 2. Today we hear highlighted, John the Baptist, “the greatest man ever born of woman,” Jesus’ words not mine. John the Baptist was a man who lived his life in the most perfect of ways. Heaven knows it was not his diet. There are two types of people in the world, “those who eat to live” and “those who live to eat” John was the former, I am the latter. And remember- there was no chocolate at the time to dip the locusts in, maybe the wild honey helped but I’m still thinking it was pretty-rough. Then he was dressed in camel hair – which is great if you are a camel but that had to be very rough as well. He was not caught up in the trappings of this world. He was given a clear mission by God and nothing kept him from his task. Each of us have a mission as well, you are already in the midst of it. You are Moms and Dads, construction workers, accountants, fire, safety workers, teachers, housewives or househusbands, the list is actually limitless. Added to every mission there is you are to complete your task as a Catholic Lady and Gentleman. John worked at the Jordan River and it was there he ministered. You are ministering where you work. St. Mother Teresa said it best – “Bloom where you are planted!” Jesus expects us to make a difference in our work place – to actually BE the difference. No camel hair required and to help keep the good mood going – add chocolate! God Bless You. Love, Fr. Mike
