I pray these lines find all doing well. I pray all are staying healthy in light of flu season and all else out there. We, as a church did what we could this past Monday, this was the feast of St. Blaise, so we blessed throats and prayed deliverance from other ailments. This weekend we receive some wonderful news. We ARE the light of the world. We ARE the salt of the earth. Jesus tells us this himself, this is not something we strive to be but something we already are. And it makes sense that Jesus would use salt and light. Salt is something which enhances the taste of food, it brings out the flavor. As salt alters the taste of food. In like fashion we are able to alter a conversation or an opinion through our input and our take on a situation, we add a flavor of sweet (being positive) or sour (negativity.) We need to be more aware and sensitive as a people that we add to society or help break it down. It is so much easier to break it down and point out faults than it is to build it up. There is a real hypersensitivity to our current society which is really extreme and a bit ridiculous (you will know that you are hypersensitive if you are offended by that LOL) Now on to light. Light helps us to see and make clear that which is before us. When WE are light, we put a good light on a person or situation, or we can cast a black light (not like the kind where posters glow in the dark – those are cool!!!) a negativity or telling the faults and failings of others. We are only meant to build up and support one another “say only the good things people need to hear” A quote from my favorite book!!! The Bible (just making sure you all knew). Have a great week! Love, Fr. Mike TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — If you share your food with the hungry, provide housing for the homeless, then light shall break forth upon you (Isaiah 58:7-10). Psalm — The just man is a light in the darkness to the upright (Psalm 112). Second Reading — My message to you, says Paul, was the proclamation of Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 2:15). Gospel — You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world. In your good deeds your light shines before others, leading them to glorify God (Matthew 5:13-16).

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule February 26, 2020 7:00AM, 8:30AM, 12:10PM & 7:30PM 6:00PM - Spanish Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence The dual disciplines of fasting and abstinence have a long history in the Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness. ♦ Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.

SENIOR LUNCHEON

In appreciation of our senior parishioners, Incarnation Council of Catholic Women (ICCW) will sponsor a Senior Luncheon in St. Michael’s Hall on February 15, 2020. The tentative program is as follows: 11:00 AM – Anointing Mass in Church 11:45 AM – 12:00 PM -- Lunch in St. Michael’s Hall 1:00 – 1:30 – Guest Speaker 1:30 – 2:00 – Drawings/Prizes Closing Prayer Please join us for a day of reflection and fellowship. Call or email either of the following ICCW members for reservations by: FEBRUARY 10, 2020. Carole Mikell - (813) 855-1801 (leave message) or Email: Caroleamikell@gmail.com Elaine Schutz - (813) 884-9308 or Email: ers7704@verizon.net

♦ Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

Save These Dates! STATIONS OF THE CROSS Fridays of Lent 5:45pm - Spanish 7:30pm - English CONFESSIONS Saturdays - 2:30pm - 3:30pm LENTEN PENANCE SERVICE March 26 at 7:00pm HOLY WEEK April 5th through April 11th PALM SUNDAY April 5th EASTER SUNDAY April 12th
