(Our Lady of Altagracia (High Grace) The story of Our Lady de Altagracia dates back to when Spain first colonized the island of Hispaniola (today, Dominican Republic and Haiti). Two men, Alonso y Antonio de Trejo, brought a painting of the Virgin to Hispaniola from their home in Placencia, in the region of Extrema‐ dura in 1502. The legend states that the image of the Virgin mysteriously disappeared from the house of the brothers Trejo. The painting later reappeared in an orange bush. The location of this bush is where the first church of Higuey was built. Now thousands of devoted visi‐ tors make the trek here to deposit offerings and to ask favors of the Mother of Christ. Dominicans pray to her for miracles and cures and for intercession for whatever troubles them. Las Noches de Vela/ the Nights of Prayer are celebrated the night before Altagracia day. The painting is found in the Basilica in Higuey and it is said to have been painted in the late 15th century in Spain. It was mysteriously delivered by a shrouded old man who dropped the painting and disappeared. This painting shows the scene of the birth of Jesus. The frame is made from Dominican gold and inlaid with fine enamels, precious stones and jewels. The painting has been completely restored. DIVISION It is a situation that plays itself out in more and less significant ways: Christians divided. A CYO basketball game between two neighboring parishes. Parents of the young players scream insults and threats at one another and assert their “superiority.” A Protestant and a Catholic church sit on adjoining properties. Each is vigilant about having parking violators removed from its own “private” parking lot. An old pastor retires but continues to reside at the parish. A new pastor arrives and quickly finds his faith “community” choosing sides against him. Saint Paul addresses similar disagreements in the early church at Corinth. He encourages the church there to make up their differences and to be united again in their belief and practice. Today’s first reading from Isaiah speaks of a people weighed down by the yoke of sin and darkness. Certainly the bickering and differences among us can be classified as such. The Gospel tells of the beginning ministry of Jesus. The Light has come, encouraging us to “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Are you being called home into the Catholic Church? Do you hunger to know more about Jesus and his Church? If you are an adult that desires baptism or that needs communion and/or Confirmation please call Carmen Cayon at 885-7861 or email her at ccayon@icctampa.org for information on how to prepare for receiving the sacraments. Adults will begin meeting this Monday evening at 7:00 pm until 8:30pm in the Parish Conference Room. You are welcome to come and see! No registration is necessary.
The Acts of the Apostles provides us more than a history of the First Christians - it is the story about the Early Church with the Holy Spirit as the protagonist. Christ did not leave His Apostles alone - He sent the Holy Spirit to guide, instruct and equip them. Enrich and deepen your faith as you learn how the Apostles continued Christ’s mission on earth through the Power of the Holy Spirit.
Blessed are You, O God! You are with us at all times, in all places. We give thanks and praise that You continue to reveal Yourself to us as we undertake the Strategic Plan for Catholic schools in our diocese.
Join us for Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom beginning this Monday at 7:00pm in Classroom One. For more information or to register for the study, contact either Carmen Cayon at 813-885-7861 or via email ccayon@icctampa.org or Martin Butler at 813-9282083 or via email meb0613@verizon.net
Give our administrators, teachers and staff in Catholic schools the grace of insight in their endeavor to educate minds, bodies and spirits in Your life-giving ways. Give our diocese the courage to overcome obstacles and persevere in the pursuit of academic excellence, stewardship and service to God’s people.
Prayer for Catholic Education “We have Faith in Catholic Schools”
For our pastors we ask the gift of wisdom to guide the staff, students and advisory board members. We thank You for the generosity of our catholic families and community donors who continue to sustain our schools’ programs through volunteerism, participation in fund-raising and contributions of goods, services and remembrances in their wills and behests. With grateful hearts we recall all who have gone before us on a pilgrimage of faith and hope. We ask Your blessing on all who have sacrificed so much to ensure the viability of our Catholic Schools. "Proeliatores Dei" is our parish's young adult group. Young adult parishioners ages 18-28 are welcome to join us every Thursday night from 7:30 - 9:00 in the Lion's Lair for faith, fun, and fraternity. For more information, please go to our website: www.thewarriorsofgod.org or call Fr. Philip at the church office (813-885-7861). We hope to see you there! 4|
Awaken in the hearts of our youth openness to the way of life You have designed for them. May they grow to be priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, married or single persons who faithfully spread the Good News of Your kingdom. May all in our school communities find in You the source of all truth. This we pray in the name of Jesus our Savior and Brother. AMEN

Did you know that our parish has a Traditional Latin Mass said every Sunday? Come experience the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as it was celebrated for centuries, the Mass many of your favorite saints would have attended. The Latin Mass is celebrated by Fr. Philip Clement, Fr. Patrick Hough, S.J., and Fr. Paul Mangiafico and is offered every Sunday at 4:30pm. If you would like to experience the Latin Mass in its fullness, come on the last Sunday of the month for the Solemn High Mass and hear the Latin Mass Schola sing their beautiful Gregorian Chant, or come to a High Mass on either the second or third Sunday of the month and hear the beautiful singing as well. For a quieter, more sublime experience, consider coming to the Low Mass offered on the first Sunday of the month. Come experience part of our Catholic heritage. Next weekend is our Monthly Food Collection Please bring non perishables and place them in the plastic bins located in the church foyer. Monetary donations can be left in the Helping Hand box located at the rear of the church. Thank You
A girarse hacia Dios.

—San Jerrnimo Emiliano
