On Saturday, January 18th the children who are preparing to receive First Holy Communion participated in a Jesus Day Retreat with their parents. At the retreat they reflected on what the cross means to us and then got to decorate a

For the fiscal half-year ending December 31, 2013, the financial results show a deficit of $4,431. If you look at the bulletin, you can see that in most weeks, our first collection falls short of our $23,000 weekly goal. Strong collections during the Christmas season were encouraging; however we are still trailing the budget for the first collection by 11%.

We keep the church on an even keel financially by managing our expenses in response to our income. When we did the budget, we identified several projects including the programmed replacement of obsolete air conditioning equipment and addressing the sound system problems in the church that would be addressed if collections would improve. We have been unable to address either of these projects thus far.

On a positive note, the response to the Forward in Faith Campaign has been most rewarding. Although well short of our goal of $852,206, pledges of over $350,000 have been received so far.

In addition, we have exceeded our assessment for the Annual Pastoral Appeal. The financial results reported in this period include over $6,500 in funds that have been returned to Incarnation that were in excess of our goal.
Expenses Utility costs ran higher than expected due to a freon leak impacting the church air conditioners which has been fixed. Maintenance expenditures continue to underrun in response to the shortfall in revenue.

Revenues The first collection continues to run behind our $23,000 per week parish goal with a 11% budget shortfall for the half-year.
Net Income Net Income for the first half shows a small deficit. Expense controls particularly on plant maintenance keep us close to a balanced budget. Mortgage Balance The outstanding balance on the loan that was taken out to rebuild the church and replace the roof is $146,747 as of December 31, 2013.

The 2014 Annual Pastoral Appeal, One Faith, Guided in Prayer, Strengthened in Service is approaching its kick-off soon in our parish. An invitation from Father Michael for your participation in the 2014 APA will soon arrive at our homes. Please keep in mind as you receive your personal invitation that this Appeal not only assists our parish in fulfilling our diocesan financial obligation, but at the same time helps to provide the physical, educational and spiritual needs to thousands throughout our larger diocesan Church. This year, the theme of the Appeal is: One Faith, Guided in Prayer, Strengthened in Service. A message to each one of us that by our faith, we are called to a life of discipleship, that we share a common mission to proclaim the Gospel and bring those in need closer to God. La Presentación del Señor 2 de febrero de 2014 Por eso tuvo que hacerse semejante a sus hermanos en todo. — Hebreos 2:17a Domingo 2 de Febrero de 2014. La Presentación del Señor Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios Hoy hace cuarenta días que hemos celebrado el nacimiento de Cristo, y hoy celebramos la presentación de Jesús en el templo para encontrarse con el pueblo creyente. Allí Simeón y Ana reconocieron en Jesús al Salvador de los pueblos, a la luz que iba a iluminar a todos los hombres que caminaban en las tinieblas. Nosotros hemos de reafirmar, que Jesús es la luz de nuestra vida, y la luz de la vida de todos los hombres, al tiempo que recordamos y ratificamos nuestro compromiso de transmitir esa misma luz a todos los hombres, con el testimonio de nuestra vida. La sociedad de consumo viene en ayuda del hombre moderno para impedirle pensar en el modo de vivir la fe en Jesús, incapacitándole para que descubra la división entre las palabras y la vida. Hay en nuestra sociedad demasiado ruido y demasiadas prisas, demasiadas comodidades y superficialidades, demasiados egoísmos para llegar a Jesús, presente en lo más profundo del corazón humano. Los cristianos, que celebramos gozosos esta fiesta de la presentación de Jesús en el Templo, tenemos aquí una llamada a asumir nuestros compromisos de fe, a llevar, a presentar a Jesús a los demás, como María y José, sabiendo que Él es salvación, luz y paz para todos. Compromiso de recibir a Jesús en nuestras vidas con la alegría y la esperanza con que lo recibieron Simeón y Ana, aunque recibirlo nos cueste deponer el orgullo, vencer el egoísmo, abrirnos al amor y a la misericordia de las que Jesús es portador. Ver a Jesús, encontrarse con Él, tener contacto con su persona, con su palabra y con su obra nos debe llevar a comportarnos como Simeón. Encontrarnos con Jesús debe hacer de nosotros hombres y mujeres capaces de pronunciarnos frente a las realidades que pretenden apartarnos de Dios, y capacitarnos para proclamar con la palabra y, sobre todo, con nuestro comportamiento, el tiempo de Dios que Jesús nos ha regalado. La Iglesia también está llamada a dar testimonio por el tiempo de Dios. Tenemos que hacer posible que ese tiempo llegue a nosotros con todas sus consecuencias. Tenemos que comprometernos con este tiempo nuevo y hacer posible, vivible y creíble en medio de nuestras vidas, nuestras familias, nuestras comunidades y en el mundo, el amor de Dios regalado en plenitud a través de la encarnación de Jesús en nuestra historia humana.
Nuestra Señora de Altagracia Son numerosas las primacías de la República Dominicana. Fue en esta tierra del Nuevo Mundo donde se plantó la primera cruz, donde se celebró la primera misa, donde se recitó la primera Avemaría, y de donde partió la irradiación de la fe a las otras islas cercanas, para de ahí extenderse a tierra firme. Sobre el origen de la Imagen de Nuestra Señora de Altagracia existen diversas versiones, pero todas ellas se basan en milagros semejantes. Los numerosos milagros de la imagen hicieron que ésta se volviera el centro de la devoción de la isla, y así surgió la necesidad de construir un santuario, el cual fue hecho de paja, al igual que las demás iglesias circunvecinas. El amor a la madre es una de las cualidades más arraigadas de todos los pueblos latinoamericanos. La Virgen María refleja, para todos nosotros, en forma sublime, ese amor de madre; vemos en Ella a una persona que está cerca de sus hijos por su cariño maternal, comprensión e intercesión, al ponerlos en contacto con Dios. Un medio muy eficaz para mantener viva la unión con Nuestra Madre y con Dios es el rezo del santo Rosario. Los latinoamericanos no la consideramos como un personaje del pasado, que existió hace dos mil años, sino que creemos que es una persona viva que está a nuestro lado, que escucha nuestras súplicas y está atenta a nuestras necesidades, que interviene en nuestra historia personal, familiar y nacional. María nos lleva a Cristo, nos lo muestra como Maestro y Salvador, nos invita a meditar sus misterios y a vivirlos en nuestra propia experiencia. Ojalá que en nuestra devoción a Ella demos nuevos pasos de fidelidad a Cristo en esta fase de la Nueva Evangelización, en la cual estamos todos empeñados. Desde el año 1502 se le rinde culto a Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia y tiene el privilegio especial de haber sido coronada dos veces. El 15 de agosto 1922,en el pontificado de Pío XI y por el Santo Padre Juan Pablo II, quien durante su visita a la Isla de Santo Domingo el 25 de enero de 1979, coronó personalmente la imagen con una diadema de plata sobredorada, regalo personal suyo a la Virgen, primera evangelizadora de las Américas. “El Grande” Juan Pablo II, también visitó a la Virgen en su Basílica en Higüey, Provincia de la Altagracia, en la República Dominicana.”

Para pensarlo En nuestras iglesias acostumbramos presentar a los niños para que se ore por ellos y se les de la bendición. Tal acto no es nada nuevo; se ha practicado desde la antigüedad. Cuando Jesús fue presentado en el templo de Jerusalén, el anciano Simeón lo tomó en sus brazos y bendijo a Dios. Sin duda fueron momentos inolvidables para José y María, pues allí escucharon maravillas acerca de su hijo. Para cualquier padre o madre el nacimiento de un nuevo ser es una maravilla; es un milagro tan grande que no se puede comprender. Para José y María fue algo aún más increíble. ¡Dios les había confiado el cuidado de su Hijo Unigénito! En el hogar de Nazaret crecería el Salvador del mundo. ¡Qué gran responsabilidad la de ellos! Para cualquier responsabilidad que Dios nos confíe, nos dará las fuerzas necesarias para cumplirla. Cierto escritor se expresaba así: “Señor, no te
pido una carga más liviana; pero te pido que fortalezcas mis hombros.”

2 de febrero de 2014 MIEMBROS REGISTRADOS Y ACTIVOS Todos los feligreses de nuestra comunidad parroquial de Encarnación buscan un sinnúmero de beneficios y servicios los cuales incluyen cartas de recomendación para la admisión a las escuelas católicas, certificados para toda aquellas personas que van a servir como padrinos en las diferentes celebraciones litúrgicas tales como el bautismo y la confirmación. Cartas las cuales le permiten celebrar el sacramento del matrimonio o bautismo en otra parroquia diferente a la de Encarnación. Esos derechos y servicios de parte de nuestra iglesia demandan ciertas obligaciones y compromisos de parte de ustedes como en cualquier comunidad. El ser un miembro activo de nuestra comunidad parroquial implica que la persona este inscrita en la parroquia, que asista regularmente a misa, y que esta persona trate en lo máximo de colaborar y aportar a la iglesia a través de sus recursos, talento y tiempo. Como resultado, el uso del sobre para las ofrendas es una buena forma para verificar la asistencia a la iglesia. Si usted decide a no usar los sobres o simplemente no puede hacer su contribución a la iglesia, le pedimos el favor de escribir una nota en la cual usted nos ofrece su apoyo espiritual a través de sus oraciones y colóquelo en las canastas de las ofrendas. De tal forma, nosotros vamos a estar consiente de que usted es un miembro activo de nuestra parroquia y así no lo moveremos a las listas de feligreses inactivos. Si usted o su familia no están inscritos en nuestra iglesia, le pedimos el favor de hacerlo lo más pronto posible.
