GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.” We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness.
Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence.

813-885-7861 Dear Fellow Parishioners, Recently Father Michael and Dante Sanchez, of our parish, visited our sister mission Espiritu Santo Church, in LaVega, Dominican Republic. In the next few weeks we will be sharing the photos that were taken of the pastor, Father Chelo, the sisters who serve the people, the structures and most importantly the people. On the property is a structure which was once the church. Now it is a concrete floor with a roof in need of repair. Father Chelo is hoping to expand this area to accommodate more children and adults since it is the most used area for recreation and socializing. We as a parish have already contributed to the expansion of this area and will continue to support this project as one of several contributors.
Within the parish boundary is a boy's home, comprised of 51 young men aged 4-14. Some of them are orphans, others have been abused and have been removed from their homes. They live here while attending school outside. They treasure the musical instruments they've been given and play with enthusiasm and heart. They are happy and well taken care of and families, under supervision, may visit on Sundays.

During the weeks of Lent we will pray for our child and all the people of our sister mission. It takes $75 a month to support a child. We hope to be able to support the home for 4 months, since each child will have more than one supporter. We will also be aware of what opportunities present themselves as financial sacrifices, to include in our alms giving. We can do this by simple acts of sacrifice such as giving up a movie or not going out to dinner and putting that saved money in the "kitty" for the mission and your child. On Monday of Holy Week, we ask that you turn in the monies saved, along with the name/address cards you received. The money will be sent to Espiritu Santo with only the name of the beneficiary. In turn your child will send a personal "thank you" to our parish and we will send it along to you. Note: no address will be shared. Have you ever relaxed to the sounds of monks singing Gregorian Chant? Have you ever allowed it to elevate your spirit in prayer? Gregorian chant was traditionally sung by choirs in churches, or by religious orders in their chapels. It is the traditional music of the Roman Rite performed in the Mass and the monastic Office. We are honored to host Fr. Samuel Weber, O.S.B., an expert in Gregorian Chant, who will share with us his love for sacred music and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form. Since beginning grade school in 1953, Fr. Weber has been studying and singing Gregorian chant. In April 2008, he became the founder and first director of The Institute of Sacred Music in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. The Institute of Sacred Music was established by Archbishop Raymond E. Burke to promote the sacred liturgy and Gregorian Chant. The goals of the Institute are to carry out the directives of the Second Vatican Council and papal documents regarding the role of Gregorian Chant and sacred polyphony in the life of the Church. Join us February 21-24 at Incarnation parish for the Latin Mass seminar entitled The Solemn High Mass and Other Liturgies: the Prayers, Rituals and Chants. In this three part seminar, Fr. Weber will speak on the Solemn High Mass, the High Mass, the Low Mass, Gregorian Chant, and the primacy of place of sacred music in the liturgy. He will also give two sessions to train our schola and our altar servers, both of which are open to registrants who may wish to sit in and learn more about how Gregorian Chant is sung and why the altar servers do what they do.
As a most noble closing to this seminar, Fr. Patrick Hough, S.J. will sing a High Mass at 4:30pm on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Incarnation Church. This will be the first High Mass at Incarnation as we transition to offering the High Mass twice per month in our regular Traditional Latin Mass schedule. It is a high honor to have Fr. Weber visit with us to teach us and train us, and we would love to have you join us for this seminar to learn more about and to help usher in the celebration of the sung High Mass at Incarnation.

Time permitting, he will address the role of the MC in the High Mass and Solemn High Mass. Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios Todos hemos recibido diversas llamadas por parte de Dios. Nuestra profesión la debemos considerar como una llamada divina a trabajar en el ambiente social en el que nos movemos, a construir un mundo más humano según el designio y la voluntad de Dios, en conformidad con las enseñanzas de los mandamientos. Dios nos ha dado muchas y buenas cualidades para que las pongamos al servicio de los demás, para que por ellas hagamos el mundo agradable y placentero para el ser humano y para que encaminemos al ser humano hacia Dios. Dios, nuestro Padre, nos ha dado todo lo bueno que tenemos para que lo compartamos con los demás, con nuestros hermanos, los seres humanos, hijos de Dios. El matrimonio es una vocación, una llamada a la santidad, a la salvación, a conseguir la felicidad eterna a través del amor auténtico entre los esposos, amor que se prolonga en los hijos. La vocación matrimonial supone una responsabilidad muy grande, ya que si el matrimonio va bien irá bien toda la familia. Y el bienestar de la familia se proyecta en el bienestar de la sociedad. Está, también, la llamada de Dios al sacerdocio. Llamada a ser pescadores de hombres, a dedicarse de una manera especial a salvar a los demás, a administrar los misterios de Dios a través de los sacramentos, a enseñar de una manera más directa el camino que conduce a Dios Padre. Las vocaciones sacerdotales proceden de las familias, de los matrimonios que viven su cristianismo con convencimiento, de las familias auténticamente cristianas. Las familias cristianas se deben sentir muy honradas si ven nacer en ellas vocaciones sacerdotales y a la vida consagrada, jóvenes que se dediquen de una manera especial al servicio de Dios y de los demás anunciando el evangelio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Todos, cada uno en su ambiente, nos deberíamos sentir llamados. No sólo para salvarnos nosotros mismos, sino para ayudar a otros a liberarse de tantas ataduras, a conocer mejor la verdad, a gozarse en la salvación de Dios y acogerla. Eso no se refiere sólo a la vocación sacerdotal o para la vida religiosa. Todo cristiano es testigo y colaborador de Cristo en este mundo, para con las personas que están bajo su círculo de relación: un niño puede ayudar a sus compañeros, una joven puede ejercitar una influencia benéfica y constructiva en su ámbito de amistad y de trabajo, los hijos para con los padres, y los padres para con los hijos, pueden ser testigos facundos de fidelidad y autenticidad humana y cristiana. Los varios servicios y ministerios en una parroquia o comunidad son una vocación para ayudar a los demás. Pidamos a Dios que correspondamos a toda llamada, a toda inspiración que surja en nosotros y que nuestra respuesta positiva contribuya a mejorar el mundo y llevar almas a Dios.

AYUNO Y ABSTINENCIA DURANTE LA CUARESMA Se les anima a todos los miembros de la Iglesia a cumplir con el ayuno durante la Cuaresma. Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo son días de ayuno y de abstinencia de comer carne. Todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de penitencia y de abstinencia de comer carne. Todos los Católicos desde 14 años están comprendidos bajo la ley de abstinencia. Todos los Católicos de 18 a 59 años están obligados al ayuno. Si alguna persona debido a una enfermedad o cualquiera otra razón no puede seguir estas regulaciones se le pide que practique cualquier otro sacrificio según su condición.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Cuando era niño mi padre me llevaba al rancho de mi abuelito en México. En una de esas visitas mi abuelo y mis tíos estaban quemando la tierra en su rancho. Mientras el fuego ardía, papa Manuel nos explicaba que era necesario reducir todo en cenizas para que la tierra recobrara sus fuerzas y quedará más fértil. Sin saberlo, mi abuelo me dio la imagen que hasta hoy sostiene mi concepto del Miércoles de Cenizas y de la cuaresma. El Miércoles de Cenizas es la fiesta cristiana que por lo menos doce siglos ha señalado el comienzo de la Cuaresma. No cabe duda que para los Latinos este día es de particular atracción. Es uno de los pocos días del año litúrgico en cual llegamos al templo en masa por tal de recibir las cenizas en la frente. Nosotros somos un pueblo enraizado en la tierra y sabemos que la tierra necesita quemarse de vez en cuando para seguir produciendo.
