Fourth Sunday of Easter April 29, 2012 See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. — 1 John 3:1

RESPONDING TO THE CALL Do we truly know the voice of Christ? Do we truly respond to the voice of our shepherd with our own distinctive voice? How often we attempt to imitate those around us, appropriating the response of another member of the flock to Christ. Perhaps we need to balance the image of being sheep of one flock with the image from the second reading, which tells us that we are all children of God. What child has precisely the same interaction with parents as his or her siblings? Instead, they frequently do and say things to distinguish themselves in the eyes of their parents.

You Are Invited... Fr. Philip Clement will be celebrating a traditional Latin Mass here at Incarnation next Sunday at 4pm in the Church. If you’ve never experienced the Latin Mass, or if it’s been years, please come. We’d love to have you!

Whether we use the image of children or of sheep to understand our relationship with Christ, we believe that we are all known and called by name. With this great gift comes a responsibility: to respond to the call with our own distinctive voice, to take time to discern exactly what our call is, to determine precisely what the will of the Father is for each of us. Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter: Good Shepherd Sunday, is a special celebration of World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The world–wide Church honors all Christian vocations. Christ Jesus gives his life for us that we might know fullness of life. We pray for openness to God’s call and to accept the gift of our Christian vocation. Christ Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is with us to guide and protect us on our life journey. You are invited to participate in praying the following prayer:

Prayer for Vocations Gracious God, With grateful hearts we welcome the presence of Jesus, our Good Shepherd. We accept the mission of Jesus to bring good news to the world by our baptismal commitment to gospel living. Bless us with discerning hearts. May we have the courage to give our lives in loving service through married life, the single life, the consecrated life, and ordained life. Inspire men and women to respond generously and embrace the gift of a religious vocation. We unite our prayers with the whole Church, with the communion of saints, with Jesus and the Spirit

in praise and thanksgiving now and forever. Amen.
