Church of the Incarnation Seventh Sunday of Easter May 12, 2013 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” — Revelation 22:13
COME, LORD JESUS The first reading today may seem somewhat out of place. Doesn't the "feast of Stephen" evoke memories of the Christmas season, rather than Easter? But it is most relevant for the days after the Ascension. Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, stands at his Father's right hand to welcome Stephen into heaven. Indeed, that is why Jesus has gone before us--to welcome us into God's house. In the second reading the focus on heavenly reward continues: the new day coming with its hope and expectation. There is also an echo here of Advent, but it is now the fulfillment of those hopes, the resolution of all questions and difficulties. John's Gospel today is part of the section known as the "high priestly prayer" of Jesus. It was his prayer at the Last Supper as he prepared for his roles as priest and victim. But it is also his prayer as the glorified and ascended high priest, the giver of glory, the center of faith, and the master of his destiny and ours. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
813-885-7861 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The paschal candle, blessed at the Easter Vigil, carried in procession into the darkened church, and aflame with the light of Christ to be passed hand to hand to renew our baptism, burns for the fifty days of Easter whenever we gather as Christ's risen body. In the last fifty years, we have grown to see this candle as the sign of Christ's enduring presence with us. Before then, it was often seen more as a kind of signpost pointing backwards to events in Christ's life. Therefore, in some places, on the fortieth day after Easter, in order to portray the disappearance of Jesus at the Ascension, the candle was hidden. Now we see the paschal candle as a sign of the great baptismal season of grace and it remains in a prominent place throughout the entire fifty days. We do know of some churches that did not hide the candle after the Ascension. In England before the Reformation, the candle was left in place for fifty days, since on Pentecost Eve there was a vigil, and the candle was used to consecrate the waters of the font. In Salisbury cathedral, the candle was thirty-six feet high, and in Westminster Abbey weighed over three hundred pounds. La Ascensión del Señor 12 de mayo de 2013 Dios asciende entre aclamaciones, el Señor, al son de trompetas. — Salmo 47 (46):6 Domingo 12 de Mayo. La Ascensión del Señor. Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios. Ascensión significa relevo..., llamada a la acción... ¡Es el turno de la Iglesia..., es nuestro turno! Entramos en escena, y Jesús nos entrega el testimonio, el encargo de ser sus testigos...Nos invitó y nos invita a levantarnos y caminar, a salir de nuestra casa, del "calor" del hogar, y de "los nuestros", a la intemperie, a las plazas y las calles, hasta el último rincón de la tierra, con su mismo mensaje: "Que Dios es nuestro Padre y que todos somos hermanos"... El misterio de la Ascensión del Señor, se presta para que nosotros pensemos en nuestra propia ascensión o descenso. Ascendemos cuando tratamos de subir de las realidades temporales a las de mayor valor, tocando con nuestra alma, las realidades espirituales de nuestro yo, de los hombres nuestros hermanos, y del mismo Dios. Descendemos, en cambio, cuando nos sumergimos en lo material y ahogamos nuestro espíritu en lo efímero, torcido y corrompido de la existencia. Ascendemos cuando volamos más o menos alto, por los mundos fascinantes del espíritu y del arte, de las ciencias y de la técnica. Cuando a través de esta pantalla, y con los ojos de la fe, reconocemos las grandezas del Ser supremo, absoluto y todopoderoso, fuente de toda bondad. Descendemos cuando nos postramos ante los tres ídolos y a ellos nos rendimos: los dioses del dinero, del poder y del sexo. Tres dioses que forman la trinidad del hombre moderno. El cristiano sabe que mientras trabaja en la tierra ha de tener clavados los ojos en el Cielo. San Pablo nos lo dice con su energía de siempre, y la Iglesia nos lo ha recordado mil veces en este tiempo pascual: Si han resucitado con Cristo, busquen las cosas de allá arriba, no las de la tierra. Porque están ya muertos, y su vida está escondida con Cristo en Dios. ¡Señor Jesucristo! Señor Jesús: Gracias por las madres que nos has dado. Los más nobles sentimientos que tenemos, los sembró en nosotros nuestra madre: la fe, la honestidad, el amor al trabajo. Señor Jesús: En esta hora de retos y desafíos, las madres necesitan de tu ayuda: para atender a la casa y al trabajo, para hacer de padre y madre, para educar en los valores cristianos, para defenderse de la tentación, para no caer en el pecado. Señor Jesús: Que la Virgen Madre las llene de fortaleza. Señor Jesús: Que la Virgen María siga siendo modelo de todas las madres. Señor Jesús: Que también ellas luchen por la justicia y que confíen en el Dios de los pobres: El Dios que quiere pan en todas las mesas y paz en todos los hogares; el Dios que destruye el poder corrompido y protege a los indefensos y humillados. Señor Jesús: Ilumina la vida de nuestras madres. Premia sus desvelos y trabajos. Concede descanso eterno a las madres ya difuntas… Bendice a todos los hogares. Y que los hijos sean siempre gloria y corona de las madres. ¡FELICITAMOS A TODAS LAS MADRES!

12 de mayo de 2013 TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Hoy celebramos a una mujer potente e importante en nuestras vidas; la madre. La historia del día de la madre se originó en las fiestas Griegas en honor de Rhea, la madre de los dioses. A lo largo de la historia los cristianos también hemos recordado a la Madre de Dios, María, en varias solemnidades, pero hace sólo 100 años que en el 10 de mayo de 1907 en los Estados Unidos se empezó a promover la idea de un día de reconocimiento del amor que tenemos como humanos por nuestras propias madres. Eventualmente se paso a muchas naciones latinoamericanas. Muchas culturas latinoamericanas son matriarcales, es decir, el papel de la madre en la familia es algo esencial. Para los latinos, no hay amor más grande que el de una madre. Sin olvidar la función del padre, ella es la que nos da la vida, nos enseña como vivirla y nos da alimento. Su amor nos recuerda al de Cristo, quien con sacrificio y amor da vida a la Iglesia. Recuerde en la Misa del domingo de el Día de los Padres a sus seres queridos-tanto los que están junto a ustedes como los que ya fallecieron.
