Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today the Church begins a stretch of Ordinary Time that will last for five months. The liturgical vigor of the Easter Season and the feasts of the Holy Trinity and the Body and Blood of Christ settles down into this long stretch that opens before us. During Ordinary Time the life of Christ is broken open for us by one of the Gospel writers. This year we have been hearing the Gospel of Saint Mark. We begin this week by listening to his account of the Lord Jesus calming the stormy seas. Through this miracle Jesus tests the faith of his followers. As we settle into Ordinary Time let us be open to the power of the word of God to effect change within us. College, Life, and Faith – an open discussion June 21st, 7:00pm - 8:30pm, St. John’s Room We’d like to provide an opportunity for college students or soon to be college students to connect with others and discuss some of the challenges that face young adults during this time in their lives. Deacon Kevin will lead the discussions. You don’t have to be a “super Catholic” to attend – all are welcome. Domingo 21 de Junio de 2015. Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios Entramos en temporada de huracanes y algunas personas piensan que las tormentas destructivas son castigos de Dios. Jesús quiere calmar nuestras tormentas, no causarlas. Las dificultades no son castigos. Ellas son las mejores ocasiones para acercarnos más a Dios. Todos nosotros tenemos temporadas de tormentas en nuestras vidas. Cada una de ellas son invitaciones para darnos cuenta de que Jesús camina con nosotros. Ellas son oportunidades para aprender más, para obtener sabiduría y crecer en la fe verdadera; para ser más humildes. A causa de nuestra siempre creciente necesidad de Dios, descubriremos más de su amor, sólo si dejamos de insistir en que Dios debe comportarse como un genio mágico que controlamos para que se resuelvan nuestros problemas, de la manera que nosotros pensamos que debe suceder. Algunas de las tormentas en este mundo siguen presentes porque nosotros no hacemos lo suficiente para que el Señor se manifieste en ellas. Después de beneficiaros de nuestras experiencias, debemos ayudar a los demás a soportar y a saber afrontar las tormentas de sus vidas. A menudo, nosotros creamos nuestras propias tormentas, cuando tomando decisiones erróneas y a veces hasta pecadoras, pero Dios no desea que seamos castigados. Él envía muchas advertencias, nos invita a calmar la confusión reconciliándonos con Él. Si las tormentas llegan, por pecado o por la naturaleza, si gritamos como los discípulos: "Señor, ¿no te importa que perecemos"? -Jesús contesta, "¿Por qué tienen miedo? ¡Qué poca fe tienen! Mi paz ya está aquí". Nosotros no tenemos el poder de calmar las tempestades. Pero sí tenemos el poder de vencerlas. Y se vencen no asustándose, se vencen confiando que ahí, junto a nosotros, en la misma barca de nuestra vida, está Él, está el Señor. Si nos sentimos solos, estamos perdidos y entonces daremos palos de ciego. Pero sí tenemos fe en el Dios que es Padre, que nos dio a su Hijo y nos da su Espíritu, ya no estamos solos, ya podemos vencer cualquier tempestad. Y, además, entonces sabremos ayudarnos unos a otros en nuestras dificultades, sabremos remar juntos sin cobardía.

ORACIÓN POR MI PADRE
Señor, te agradezco por el padre que me diste y que tanto admiro. Haz que siempre lo ame más y que él se sienta amado. Auméntale las alegrías y no permitas que yo, para él, me convierta en un peso. Ayúdame a aliviar sus horas de cansancio y preocupaciones, para que pueda servirle de "Cirineo". No dejes, Señor, que los desengaños le hagan decaer o que el desánimo le domine. Ayúdale a enfrentar, con renovado coraje, sus responsabilidades y a actuar frente a ellas de la mejor manera posible. Que él sea firme y severo cuando sea necesario, sin dejar de ser bueno. Que no se pierda en la impaciencia, sino que sepa perdonar mis flaquezas. Que yo no repare en sus defectos, Señor, sino en sus cualidades y que sepa no sólo admirar sus buenos ejemplos, sino también imitarlo, especialmente cuando a mi vez tenga mis propios hijos. Consérvalo, Señor, en tu amor y que nuestra familia, viviendo ahora unida bajo tus cuidados y bendiciones, pueda también vivir unida en el cielo, para cantar tu nombre. ¡FELICIDADES Y BENDICIONES PARA TODOS LOS PADRES EN SU DIA!
La próxima semana nuestra diócesis realizara la Colecta Peter’s Pence, la cual le proporciona al papa Francisco los fondos necesarios para llevar a cabo sus obras de caridad alrededor del mundo. Lo recaudado beneficia a los más desfavorecidos: a las victimas de la guerra, de la opresión y de los desastres. Únase a nuestro Santo Padre como un testigo de la caridad para aquellos que sufren.

DIOS AMANSA LAS TORMENTAS DE NUESTRA VIDA Esa excursión pesquera terminó felizmente. Pasamos sin contratiempo a través de las olas creadas por el paso del barco petrolero. Pero ese fue el día en que aprendí a respetar el mar y a apreciar su poder de destrucción. Ahora me puedo imaginar a los discípulos de Jesús, que en su mayoría eran pescadores con experiencia del mar, dando bandazos en la barca donde el Señor dormía sobre un cojín. Eran hombres que bien conocían la furia del mar. En años recientes hemos visto la destrucción que producen los tsunamis y los huracanes. Un golpe de agua arrollador es una de las cosas más espantosas que un ser humano puede experimentar. Y es en el contexto de esa clase de espanto, que pone a prueba la fe de los discípulos, que el Señor apacigua la tempestad. Todos tenemos tormentas en nuestras vidas, momentos en que sufrimos un temor espantoso. En esos momentos de apuro, no tengamos miedo de volvernos al Señor con fe, rogándole que esté junto a nosotros, dándonos su fuerza y salvación.
