12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 23, 2013
Our pastor’s recent visit (the first week of June) to our sister parish of Espiritu Santo in the Dominican Republic was a very happy one. On his second day, Fr. Michael visited the Padre Fantino Home for Boys. The boys who reside at the home are either orphans or have been abandoned and others have been abused and need special attention from phychologists and psychiatrists. Father Michael handed out Skittles candy and delivered cards sent by parishioners. At Fr. Michael’s request, on behalf of Incarnation parish, a special luncheon was prepared for the boys. As you can see in the pictures (on the left page) it was truly a feast that everyone enjoyed! After lunch there was a presentation in which Fr. Michael gave Fr. Chelo a check for $14,000 for the support of the Boys Home. This was the money we collected during our Lent Project!
Fr. Chelo: “For us, this day we spent with Fr. Michael is very important and we are very happy and grateful for the luncheon. We appreciate your generosity, your support and collaboration. We are grateful to you and everyone at Incarnation who in one way or another cooperated for the benefit of the Boys Home. We are very happy that you care in such a special way for this home and pray that God keep giving you strength and wisdom as pastor and priest.
Fr. Michael: “Our parish did a great job in our great support of the Father Fantino Home and our people certainly stand behind the boys, very eager and generous in supporting them. We assure them of our prayers and we ask for their prayers for all of us. I thank Fr. Chelo and the Sisters for allowing us to assist in their important ministry in caring for the boys here at the Fantino Boys Home.”

A PERSONAL RESPONSE OF FAITH Today's Gospel starts with a conversation with which Jesus begins his journey to Jerusalem--and the cross. As his followers, we strive to march with him, even to the cross. Paul's Letter to the Galatians tells us that we who have been baptized have "clothed" ourselves with Christ. Being one with Christ, we must no longer discriminate according to nationality or race, according to social status, according to gender. The prophet Zechariah, centuries before anyone heard of Jesus, spoke of how the people find God's message uncomfortable, and so turn against the messengers. Later, though, the people awaken to the realization of what they have done and are moved to repentance. Thus, they are always welcomed back by God, who always gives us grace to do the right thing, however difficult it may be. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Next week our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Your gift makes you a pilgrim of charity around the globe.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, © Copyright, J. S.
