Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 17, 2011 Those who are just must be kind. - Wisdom 12:19 GOOD SEEDS Today Jesus continues to speak to his followers using parables. What a rich treasure we are given today in three parables about the kingdom of heaven! The kingdom is likened to a man sowing good seed in his field, a mustard seed, and yeast mixed with flour. As they did last week, today the disciples press Jesus for an interpretation of one of the parables—the parable of the man sowing good seed. Lest we think that these parables are simply amusing little anecdotes, Jesus’ interpretation should be seen for what it is—a warning. Wailing and grinding of teeth in a fiery furnace await those who are children of the evil one. This parable points to the struggle for today’s believer. Sometimes, through sin, we sow weeds and prevent the love of Christ from blossoming. Let today’s Gospel help put us back on track. Let us recommit ourselves to prepare for the last days, the harvest, by blossoming as the good seeds we were created in love to be. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Ex 14:5-18; Mt 12:38-42 Tuesday: Ex 14:21 — 15:1; Mt 12:46-50 Wednesday: Ex 16:1-5, 9-15; Mt 13:1-9 Thursday: Ex 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20b; Mt 13:10-17 Friday: Ex 20:1-17; Jn 20:1-2, 11-18 Saturday: Ex 24:3-8; Mt 13:24-30 Sunday: 1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12; Ps 119; Rom 8:28-30; Mt 13:44-52 [44-46]

FEAST OF FAITH The Prayer Over the Gifts In the liturgy of the 1570 Missal, this prayer was called the “secret” prayer. It was “secret” not because its content was mysterious, but because it was prayed in silence by the priest, who only recited the conclusion aloud: . . . per omnia saecula saeculorum. With the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, we again hear these rich prayers spoken aloud. They remind us to prepare ourselves for what is to happen in the Eucharistic Prayer, for it is not only the bread and wine that will be transformed. The Prayer Over the Gifts is a prayer for transformation, an expression, in a few words, of all that we hope that the liturgy will accomplish in our lives. We ask God to accept the gifts we present, and to change us even as God hallows the bread and wine. As we listen carefully to the Prayer Over the Gifts, we are reminded of what it is that we seek in the Eucharist: to be made holy; to be drawn closer to God; to come to eternal joy, unity, peace, and salvation. —Corinna Laughlin, © Copyright, J. Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute Year of Discernment 2011-2012

July 17, 2011 My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Again, I’d like to thank you all - organizations, sponsors and most of all, you, the parishioners - for your support of Casino Night 2011. The proceeds from Incarnation Casino Night 2011 made it possible to meet one of our goals, to refurbish St. Michael’s Hall which serves as our school cafeteria and parish social hall. Please visit the hall and see what our LABOR of LOVE accomplished - the transformation of this beautiful facility. The upcoming 3rd Casino Night’s main goal is to raise funds to refurbish St. Francis, St. John and St. Patrick rooms. These rooms serve as school classrooms and are used by our ministries for their meetings and functions. MARK YOUR CALENDAR… Saturday, February 18, 2012 for our 3rd Incarnation Casino Night. Your support is needed to make this event a success and to be able to meet our goal. If you would like to help with donations, please call the church office. May God bless you for your kindness Your Sister in Christ, Connie Hennessey Event Chair

An Invitation from the Office of the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI). So often, people ask how they might grow in their faith. In response to this searching, Bishop Lynch initiated the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute. The LPMI is a four-year program: an informal year of discernment and three years of formal academic training and spiritual growth. The initial segment of the program, the Year of Discernment, consists of eight Saturday sessions from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. The classes will meet at the Christ the King Parish Mary Martha House, located at 821 South Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33609. Classes begin on September 10, 2011 and continue once monthly through April 2012. The LPMI provides education and formation for laity in the Catholic faith. The program is designed to enhance personal faith and develop intellectual aptitude to enrich personal ministry. For anyone interested in attending the LPMI Year of Discernment, brochures are available in the church or in the parish office. In addition, the registration form and program information can be found on the LPMI web site at http://dosp-lpmi.

©NUESTRA PARROQUIA 2011
