DECISIONS There is an axiom that states, “Not to decide is to decide.” This saying was popular in the turbulent times of the Vietnam War. It urged us not to allow others to answer the moral questions raised by our nation’s involvement in that terrible conflict, but to decide for ourselves. Making such choices is never easy. Avoiding them is common. Jesus, for his part, was not only a gallant risk-taker, but a clear decisionmaker. As he pursued the mission to which the Father called him, he continually decided for us and for the Father. He worked hard to lay out a scenario that would enable others to make similar choices. Never did he make decisions for others or force others into decisions, even decisions that had eternal ramifications. Jesus is inviting us to make such decisions today. We won’t be absolutely sure. Our maintenance crew worked very hard over the Summer on several projects. One project was the beautification of the school courtyard in preparation of the arrival of our new statue of the Holy Family.

Expenses Utilities under ran due to the savings of the new air conditioners. The assistance to the school and maintenance expenses were higher than budgeted. Net Income The roof on St. Michael's Hall kitchen had to be replaced in June at a cost of $19,000. This unanticipated and unfunded cost was the primary cause of the deficit. Balanced Budget The Finance Council and Business Manager attempt to balance the budget every year based upon the resources available. Needed roof repairs on several buildings serve as a reminder as to why our goal remains at $23,000 in the first collection every week. We need to be building reserves for maintenance in the future. Today we are still reacting to maintenance as "the disaster of the day" rather than planning for it on a scheduled basis.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Incarnation Parish welcomes new team member: Megan Kanatzar. Meg is currently enrolled at Notre Dame University attaining a Master’s degree in Theology. She will be apprenticing in our community under the mentorship of Faith Formation Director, Carmen Cayon. Meg received her Bachelors of Arts in theology this past May at University of Dallas. While there she was involved in Campus Ministry and also was a Confirmation catechist at her parish in Irving, Texas - St. Luke’s Catholic Church. She has much experience volunteering in various leadership teams and serving as an altar server, VBS, Bible Study, and Praise & Worship group during her high school and college years. Meg’s hometown is Little Rock, Arkansas and she is very excited to be moving into our area. She will be living in a community setting with 3 other apprentices who will be working at 3 other parishes in our diocese. You will see her involved in many aspects of our diverse parish community this year. Come say hello to Meg after all the Masses in St. Francis room this weekend. She is looking forward to meeting you and your family!
The Eucharist was never meant to be only “comfort food,” something that makes us feel warm and satisfied. It is to be bread for the journey, nourishment for the task that God has set for our community and for each one of us. Thus it is not surprising to see some walk away in today’s Gospel, for they understood that recognizing Jesus as the bread of life is a commitment to changing one’s life. St. Augustine, whose feast we celebrate this week, once observed that in celebrating the Eucharist we become what we receive, the Body of Christ. As we conclude the series of reflections in John’s Gospel on Jesus as the bread of life, it is appropriate to think about the role that the Eucharist plays in our lives and in our parish. It is in the Eucharist that we are nourished and renew our commitment in faith to serve the Lord. How does the parish social ministry carry out that mandate? How do you carry it out in your own life? You are hereby invited to the Jubilee Mass of Our Lady of Charity celebrating 400 years of her appearance in the Bay of Nipe in Cuba. The Mass will take place on Saturday September 8 at 7:00 PM at Incarnation Church. It will be officiated by Bishop Robert Lynch and homilist will be Father Rodolfo Lamas of the Archdiocese of San Juan Puerto Rico. Fr. Lamas is a Cuban priest from the Camaguey Province and has been working in Puerto Rico since 1992. Preceding the Mass, Bishop Lynch will be blessing the newly renovated Shrine.

Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios Domingo 21 del Tiempo Ordinario La fe es un misterio. Es don de Dios y respuesta nuestra. Esta respuesta se complica muchas veces por el ambiente que nos rodea, o por nuestra debilidad. Porque detrás de creer o no en Jesús, detrás de aceptar o no su evangelio, está el aceptar lo que nos dice: y el estilo de vida de Jesús es exigente y va muchas veces en contra de nuestro egoísmo o nuestra comodidad o de las seducciones y atracciones que nos rodean. Los valores evangélicos no son exactamente los que le atraen al mundo de hoy. Ni coinciden las llamadas de Jesús con las que escuchamos en torno nuestro. La Palabra de Dios nos llama la atención sobre estos problemas a fin de que vivamos según el espíritu que da vida y no según la letra que mata. Quien quiere dar sentido a su vida para que ésta sea según el Espíritu, tarde o temprano ha de hacer su opción por Jesucristo, quien nos da palabras de vida. Hoy se nos invita a reafirmar nuestra fe en su persona y en su mensaje. Ser hombre o mujer de fe no es cosa fácil; no son pocos, los que, ante las exigencias que Cristo plantea para la vida, optan por un dios cómodo y fácil, un dios más oportuno, llevadero y menos exigente; un dios, que, simplemente esté acorde con la vida que el hombre suele llevar, que no pida cambios ni conversiones. Dioses así, evidentemente, lo único que aportan es una satisfacción pasajera, una relativa y aparente tranquilidad de la conciencia. Pero no le aportan al hombre vida, crecimiento y plenitud; porque son dioses cuyos lenguajes han sido elaborados por el propio hombre, y el hombre por mucho que se endiose, nunca podrá darse vida a sí mismo. Somos cristianos porque, por definición hemos elegido al Dios de Cristo. Lo malo es, o puede ser, que la elección sea por eso, por definición, y no por una actitud reflexiva, seria, consciente y decidida, que nos haga exclamar, con Pedro, “Tú solo tienes palabras de vida eterna”; nos quedamos contigo porque el dinero, el poder, el placer, la fuerza, la soberbia, la vanidad, la belleza, el placer y todos los diosecillos que pueblan el mundo no pueden darnos la luz, la serenidad, la paz, el amor y la vida que Tú puedes darnos. Elegir a Dios a quien vamos a amar y servir es un gran acontecimiento en la vida. Es interesante que no nos lo perdamos. A los momentos de oración o de celebración eucarística, que no son difíciles, y además nos proporcionan consuelo y paz, les siguen otros de práctica diaria, en la familia y en el trabajo, en la esfera personal y en la comunitaria. Momentos en que resulta más difícil seguir el estilo de vida de Jesús: servicio, solidaridad, fraternidad, perdón de las ofensas, comprensión, tolerancia, valores espirituales y morales, conversión. Y eso durante toda la vida, porque la fe no es un hecho momentáneo, sino un largo camino, como la amistad, el amor o la vocación. Se trata de seguir creyendo en Jesús, no porque siempre lo hayamos hecho así, o porque así nos lo han ensenado, sino por convicción y decisión personal. Por eso somos fieles a la Eucaristía dominical: para no perder el contacto con nuestro Maestro, y para seguir alimentándose de su vida, para renovar nuestras raíces cristianas y eclesiales y refrescar los criterios cristianos de vida, en medio de la tormenta que tal vez experimentamos en el mundo de hoy.
Tarde o temprano caemos en la cuenta, si nos abrimos a la acción de Dios, de que solamente hay una persona que de verdad salva: Jesucristo, el enviado de Dios Padre, Él y sólo Él es la respuesta. Si queremos la vida en plenitud tenemos que repetir muchas veces con Pedro: “¿Señor a quien iremos? Tu tienes palabras de vida eterna” hacerlas nuestras y ponerlas en práctica.
Para pensarlo Quisiera poder decir como Josué “Yo y nuestra casa serviremos al Señor” Eso afirmaría que es verdad que el Señor es nuestra fuerza y nuestra vida y que yo lo creo fervientemente.

Misa de la Caridad del Cobre Por éste medio se le invita a todo el pueblo hispano a La Misa Jubilar de La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre; celebrando 400 años de su aparición en la bahía de Nipe en Cuba. La misa se llevará a efecto el sábado 8 de septiembre a las 7:00 pm en la Iglesia de la Encarnación en Webb y Hillsborough localizada en Town N’ Country. Será oficiada por el Obispo Robert Lynch y el homilista será el Padre Rodolfo Lamas de la archidiócesis de San Juan, Puerto Rico. El es cubano de la provincia de Camagüey y se encuentra trabajando en Puerto Rico desde el año 1992.
El Concilio de Mujeres Católicas (ICCW) le invita a tomar el té y hacerse socia de esta organización.
