SPECIAL SERVANTS The servant we read about in Isaiah was tormented, mistreated, abandoned, and ridiculed, but he recognized his purpose as the bearer of the people’s sin. The people were separated from God, but the servant intervened and God redeemed the people. Christians have come to understand this reading as pointing toward a future event, namely the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus was tested and came face to face with suffering, but because he suffered for us, we can now approach the throne of God without fear. While it is sometimes hard for us to understand this, it was equally difficult for the disciples, James and John. They still did not understand what Jesus’ kingdom was all about. They asked to be the leaders when he came into his kingdom. Tirelessly, Jesus continued to teach them about the kingdom and that true greatness is loving service to one another. Jesus demonstrated the ultimate gift of loving service when he gave his life for our sakes. His sacrifice was not a punishment meted out by God. Rather Jesus gave his life so that we could have a new life and relationship with God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Company
BEING LOVING SERVANTS
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Every 1st Friday following the 8:30 am Mass until 6:15pm
How many times do we notice someone getting a better break than we do? Whether we cry “foul” in our minds or speak out loud, we want our fair share. We’re not much different from James and John. But as Jesus taught them, loving service is the sure way to share in the kingdom. Try not to think big when you look for ways to serve this week. Some of the best opportunities for service come in the ordinariness of our lives. Spending time with someone, being respectful to all the people in our lives, lending a hand even when it’s “not our job,” these are all quiet opportunities to live lives of service.

What is “Priesthood Sunday? Priesthood Sunday, the last Sunday in October, is a special day set aside to honor the priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. Please join us to thank and celebrate our Priests for their “yes” and all the sacrifices they make for us. We have Spiritual Bouquet cards available in the church foyer and at the parish office. Please take one and fill it out for our Priests.
Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today is World Mission Sunday! In Scripture, we read that St. Paul asked the Gentile Churches to take up a collection to support the Church in Jerusalem. Now we are asked to reach out and support the young churches throughout the world. Your prayers and generous gifts in the collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious, and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Go out to the whole world through your gift in today’s collection.
October 18, 2015 Saints Peter & Paul Maronite Catholic Church is celebrating its 4th Annual Mediterranean Lebanese Food Festival on Saturday, November 7th, from 5:00pm to Midnight and on Sunday, November 8th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm.
