MASS SCHEDULE
CELEBRATE
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
This Sunday, God rejoices and sings because of us. We read in Zephaniah today that God “will sing joyfully because of you, / as one sings at festivals (Zephaniah 3:18). We know plenty about singing at festivals. Already our ears are ringing with the songs and carols that anticipate the Christmas season. Paul reminds us of the source of our own double rejoicing: God is the mighty savior who is in our midst (in Zephaniah’s words). Because this is so, says Paul, we can rejoice and be at ease. We don’t have to worry, for God’s peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds. A medieval carol depicts Christmas as “my dancing day” and urges us to enter into the dance. Why all the merrymaking? Because “the Lord is near,” as Paul reminds us (Philippians 4:5). He then points to another reason for the dancing: the dawn of the promise of peace, the peace beyond all understanding, that is now within our grasp. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
“Celebrate. Celebrate. Dance to the music.” So go the lyrics to an old song from the early 70s. So also, in a way, goes the message of Zephaniah. For in telling the people of Israel that God is with them he puts a song in their hearts. And surely, he sets their feet to dancing. Paul stays right in step, again playing the cheerleader and again telling the Philippians—and all of us—to set aside anxiety, to rejoice in the Lord. And in Luke’s Gospel, John the Baptist speaks of ways to ready ourselves for the coming of the Christ so that our rejoicing in Jesus may be complete. Welcome to the Third Sunday of Advent. Zephaniah, Paul, and the Baptist are already rejoicing. It seems like a good time to join them.

Reflecting on God’s Word
’Tis the season for bell choirs and brass renditions of beloved carols. Church musicians are rounding up trumpeters and French horn players to rehearse for Christmas liturgies. What would a Christmas television special be without pealing bells in the closing sequence? The joyful sounds of brass instruments herald the good news that the Lord of the universe has entered into human history once and forever in the poor infant Jesus. There is another kind of bell that seems to follow us wherever we go at this time of year—the Salvation Army bells. They remind us that not everyone has experienced the good news of salvation yet. There are many who suffer while others wallow in abundance. Today’s scriptures remind us that the Lord is with us to save us from our sinfulness, so that justice, love, and peace might reign at last in the world. Then all God’s people will be able to rejoice. —Virginia Stillwell

15th ANNUAL SHOEBOXES FOR SENIORS
MINISTRY NEWS Our next meeting will be January12, 2016, at 7:00pm in the Faith Formation Office. New members are always welcome.
Recently members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry dropped off chemo caps, lap blankets and lap quilts for the patients at the Florida Cancer Specialists Facility.
Retirement Fund for Religious Aging religious need your help. In the United States today, there are more than 33,000 senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. These religious worked tirelessly in Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies, usually for little to no pay. As a result, many religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to today’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and more. Please be generous. 4|
The Life Ministries of Incarnation will once again be holding our parish-wide Christmas project, Shoeboxes for Seniors, this weekend. Many elderly in our community have benefitted from your generosity in the past. Please consider sharing Jesus’ love this Christmas with an elderly person by participating in this project. Your filled shoebox may be the only Christmas present some receives this year. The residents at Rocky Creek Retirement Center, who will receive your gifts, thank you for blessing them.
Please leave your boxes in the bins that are located in the church foyer or bring them directly over to St. Michael's Hall today between 8 AM and 12 Noon.
Together let’s celebrate this special event with reflections, music, puppets and snacks. We will be waiting for you and your family. December

Things we can do in the Jubilee Year ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
Forgive those who have hurt you or have done you wrong. If possible, consider forgiving debts owed to you and/or returning collateral. Go to confession regularly—monthly or even weekly. Read and meditate on the Sacred Scriptures, especially the Gospel of St. Luke. Perform one or more works of mercy every day. Go on a pilgrimage. Share the Good News of God’s mercy through your words and good deeds. Make the Stations of the Cross regularly, especially at 3:00pm, the Hour of Great Mercy. Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily, imploring mercy “on us and on the whole world.”
Jubilee Year of Mercy
December 13, 2015 Third Sunday of Advent
Pope Francis chose to inaugurate the Jubilee Year of Mercy last Tuesday because December 8 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the closing of Vatican II. That council, Pope Francis reminds us, inaugurated a new phase in the Church’s history. The Spirit called the Church to tear down the walls that for far too long had made it a fortress, and to proclaim the gospel in a new, more accessible way. Pope Francis quotes Saint John XXIII in declaring the Church’s preference for “the medicine of mercy,” and Blessed Paul VI in proposing the Good Samaritan as our model for discipleship (Misericordiae Vultus, 4). Pope Francis adds that God’s mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel,” and that mercy “must penetrate the heart and mind” of every disciple (MV, 12). Three times today’s Gospel asks, “What should I do?” Pope Francis would say: Imitate Jesus, who came not wielding the fiery judgment that John the Baptist had threatened, but instead imparting healing, compassion, forgiveness—mercy! —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Papal quotes Copyright © 2015, Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Used with permission.
SPIRITUAL MOTHERHOOD FOR PRIESTS Support the Priesthood of Christ The main duty for priests is to offer sacrifice, namely the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and to consecrate bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. The Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross is being re-presented at every Mass and requires the constant “yes” of an ordained minister. Hence, one of the main roles of Spiritual Mothers is to support the priest by her prayers, so the priest can persevere in his duty to offer the Holy Sacrifice as a priest of Jesus Christ. If you are a woman and feel you are being called to this Ministry, please call or email Cheralyn Quevedo at (813) 523-9349; cjqcafe@gmail.com. We will be praying a Rosary of Intercession for Priests every Thursday at 9:00am in the Cry Room.

Church of the Incarnation Domingo 13 de Diciembre de 2015.

Sean generosos.
