GOD’S HOLY FAMILY Parents are some of the most remarkable people on this earth. Today we see Mary and Joseph as parents of a growing boy— the twelve-year-old Son of God. Today’s parents probably simply nodded in understanding as the Gospel story of the finding of Jesus in the temple was told. Certainly my own mom and dad, who raised six of us, know the kind of anxiety felt by Mary and Joseph. This celebration of the Holy Family reminds us that in baptism we were adopted into God’s holy family. God, our divine parent, must become frantic when we stray, when we become lost in sin. And, just like Mary and Joseph and my own dad, God runs to our rescue, calling us back into loving relationship. Let us be grateful for the love of parents and God’s own love that knows no bounds. Today’s Readings: 1 Sam 1:20–22, 24–28; Ps 84:2–3, 5–6, 9–10; 1 Jn 3:1–2, 21–24; Lk 2:41–52 Copyright © J. S. Paluch Company

Jubilee Year of Mercy
December 27, 2015 Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Imagine: three New Year’s celebrations in little over a month! In late November, Advent began the new liturgical year; December 8, the Jubilee Year of Mercy; this coming Friday, the New Year 2016. In today’s Gospel, after three days of anguish, Mary tells Jesus how desperately she and Joseph have been searching for him. Mary could be speaking for the whole human race. With religious persecutions raging, international and domestic conflicts seething, our family and friends suffering various difficulties, not to mention our own personal problems, how much our world needs Jesus as another New Year veiled in mystery begins! As we pray for God’s mercy to enfold our world and embrace each of us in 2016, let our New Year’s resolution be to live the Jubilee Year of Mercy by being for others, as Mary was, a channel of God’s mercy and an instrument of Christ’s peace. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God No matter how late you will stay out celebrating New Year's Eve, remember that, January 1st —the Solemnity of Mary — is a Holy Day of Obligation. As the New Year begins, look at Mary as a model for renewed Christian life: in her openness to the Holy Spirit, her radical assent to God's will for her life, her patience through suffering, and her willingness to bring the Savior into the world. Those are all qualities that would make any of us better people in the coming year. Today is also the World Day of Peace. Take time today to pray for peace in our troubled world.

EXCERPTS FROM MISERICORDIAE VULTUS POPE FRANCI’S DOCUMENT ANNOUNCING THE YEAR OF MERCY “The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love.” (MV 10) “Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy.” (MV 1) “…wherever there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy.” (MV 12) “...the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instills hope.” (MV 3) “Let us open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for help!” (MV 15)
The Parish Office will be closed this Friday, New Year’s “As the Father loves, so do his children. Just as he is merciful, day. so we are called to be merciful to each other.” (MV 9) On Sunday, January 4, 2014, as we celebrate Epiphany, we are reminded of the journey that the Three Kings made to meet the Baby Jesus. They brought him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. You are invited to share in their journey by bringing baby gifts or prayers to leave at the manager during the offertory at all masses. Items such as diapers, bottles, baby wipes, receiving blankets, etc. will be collected for mothers and mothers-to-be at the Foundations of Life Pregnancy Center. Thank you for sharing the love that is Christmas.
The Life Ministries would like to extend a very big “Thank You" to the parishioners of Incarnation for their generous support of the Shoebox for Seniors drive this Christmas. Over 125 boxes were collected for the senior residents at Rocky Creek Retirement Center. These shoeboxes may have been the only gift some residents received. Thank you for helping to make Christmas special for them. If you would like to become more involved with some of the year-long, life-affirming activities of this ministry, please contact Teresa Trubilla at 813-841-6563.

What is mercy to you? What is your favorite story of mercy in the Bible? How have you experienced the Father’s mercy in your own life? How do you show mercy to others? Who is an example of someone in your life who “lives mercy”? What is one thing you can do this week to better live mercy in the everyday?
Church of the Incarnation Domingo 27 de Diciembre de 2015.
