SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

MARCH 13, 2022 PARISH OFFICE Hours: 9am - 4pm 5124 Gateway Dr. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.885.7861 | www.icctampa.org SCHOOL OFFICE 5111 Webb Rd. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.884.4502 Fax: 813.885.3734 | www.icstampa.org.org

I pray these lines find all doing well, all is good here at Incarnation Central. No chocolate withdrawal yet but I’m sure I will feel it soon – LOL. Today we hear about the transfiguration of the Lord, Jesus appears in glory before Peter, James and John. This is one of those moments when Peter shines as well (no pun intended.) Peter states what each of us would probably also have thought and said had we been there, “Lord, let us set up three booths, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. Peter was looking to set up shop there and never leave. Peter was having a “mountain top experience,” which is precisely where this term originates. This small group went up the mountain physically, they got above the hassle and problems of everyday life. They physical left all their problems behind and below. Peter wanted to stay up there because down below was all the problems and humdrum everyday routine. Like Peter, all of us like to get away once in a while. I pray each of you have had such an experience in your lives where you are so connected to the Lord and never want that feeling or experience to end – I love those times!!! And as great as they are we need to come back down the mountain. One of the reasons we need to return is so that we can share what it is we have experienced with others so they can have their own personal mountain top experience. Have a great week! God Bless You all!! Love, Fr. Mike This week we take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection to reveal Christ’s love to our brothers and sisters in need. This collection helps six Catholic agencies to provide relief and support for struggling communities and to work for peace and reconciliation among our marginalized brothers and sisters here and around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection. Learn more about the collection at www.usccb. org/catholic-relief.

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

MARCH 13, 2022

The Transfigura on reveals Jesus as the Son of God—but this isn’t for Jesus’s sake. He already knows his iden ty. Instead, the Transfigura on is a gi for His apostles. Just before the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, where He will suffer His passion and death, He gives Peter, John, and James a glimpse of His glory and the truth of who He is. It is this experience of His glory and the convic on that He is the Son of God that will sustain these apostles at their darkest hour—in John’s case, at the foot of the Cross, and for Peter, in the a ermath of his denial of Christ. The Transfigura on is a gi for us as well. We’re on our own journey with Jesus towards Jerusalem, as we move into the second week of Lent. Jesus reminds of His glory, and His power over death, just as the going can get a li le tough for us—when the Lenten prac ces and penances we commi ed to so eagerly just over a week ago can begin to feel like burdens. By revealing His power and glory, Jesus shows us that He isn’t a prize we’ll receive on the other side of Easter, but He’s a presence that will be with us throughout the journey—including in our Lenten “darkest hours!” One prac ce we’re emphasizing as a parish this Lent is almsgiving—especially giving to our diocesan Catholic Ministry Appeal. The Transfigura on helps us see that when we pickup our cross through our giving—even and especially when it involves some sacrifice on our part—we’re not alone. We’re with Jesus, the Lord of Life. Let’s meditate upon the Transfigura on and see how we might be moved to give in light of the truth of who Jesus is and His closeness to us. Visit www.dosp.org/catholicministryappeal

Dear Parishioners, Once again, our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-inaction program that invites us to reflect on the challenges of global hunger— and our responsibility to respond to the needs of our global human family. The Gospel of Matthew (25:31-46) will be our constant reminder that we ought to commit to sharing what we have with those in need, trusting in God's abundance, and doing all we can to help feed the hungry. Through our Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving, we will be encouraged to respond to the call to make sure that all our brothers and sisters - and especially all children around the world - are fed good, nutritious food that gives them what they need to fulfill their God-given potential. During this holy season of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to focus our attention on three countries, namely, Rwanda, Guatemala, and Bangladesh. It is important that you come together as a family and reflect on the cross of hunger and lack of proper nutrition that so many of our brothers and sisters in those countries and all around the world are forced to endure. In so doing, all of us can pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. Please consider the following suggestions to fully engage in this year’s Lenten journey: • Use your 2022 Rice Bowl Calendar daily to guide your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. • Read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey. Visit Lenten Stories | CRS Rice Bowl or CRS’ You Tube channel to watch videos of the people and communities we will support through our Lenten gifts to CRS Rice Bowl. • Prepare simple, Meatless meals on all Fridays of Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world - you could even attempt to cook some food from the countries mentioned above! We will collect your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent. There will be baskets in the back of the church. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl with your family. Sincerely, Deacon Jim Minary 5
