TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PARISH OFFICE Hours: 9am - 4pm 5124 Gateway Dr. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.885.7861 | www.icctampa.org SCHOOL OFFICE 5111 Webb Rd. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.884.4502 Fax: 813.885.3734 | www.icstampa.org.org

I pray these lines find that all are doing well. All is great here – just living the pumpkin “everything” dream! There is so much out there besides flavored coffee and I consider it my job to test it all. LOL Today’s second reading always reminds me of a way of thinking I heard about when I was very young. What I was told is that Angels walk among us in disguise and so we never know that if we are in the presence of angels or if we are passing or ignoring them, maybe they think differently than us, so we do not give them the time of day. Now the reality behind this idea is the fact that we are to treat everyone the way we would treat Jesus Himself! Our Gospel brings us back to our first reading in Jesus healing a deaf and mute man. There is an amazing word that gets used by Our Lord – the word is “Ephphatha” which translates – be opened. Now, many of us are gifted with being able to speak as well we have the gift of hearing but we can go much deeper in the meaning behind this term uttered by Jesus. Just because we are able to hear does not mean that we truly listen to what is said or for that matter – that we truly take in what we read. It can be very easy for us to be set in our ways and we go deaf to anyone who feels or states something different from what we feel is right. Yes, in some things there is a definite right and wrong and those are easy to defend however, our world has so many levels, opinions and statements which are loved by some and seen as ridiculous by others. We are entitled to believe and to not believe in what society tells us BUT we owe respect and an ear to those who speak or think differently. After all, does Jesus love them any less than He loves us? Now, how wonderful would it be if we were only able to speak what we hear from God. If, as it states in another part of scripture – we only say things that people need to hear – things that will build them up – not tear them down. Anyone with a pulse can tear something down and see the bad and negative in people or events. As Christians we are to answer to a higher call, we are to look for the good in them. Have a great week! God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike

Catechists Needed!

Registration has begun for Faith Formation classes, and we are asking for those that may teach now or have taught in the past to contact the Faith Formation Office if they would like to be a catechist. With that in mind we do need some catechist and assistant catechist. If you feel God is calling you to help pass on our Faith to the children and youth of our Parish, please contact Deacon Matt or Judy Licari at (813) 884-3624 and see where your gifts and talents can be used.

Bible Study Group

On September 14, 2021, the Tuesday night Bible Study Group will begin the program Lectio: Peter-Cornerstone of Catholicism, By Dr Tim Gray. Meeting time is 7:00900pm ON ZOOM (Online only-no in-person meetings). The study handbook can be downloaded free and weekly videos are available on FORMED.com also for free. For more information or to sign up, please call Donna Burch at 813-541-8506 or email donna.burch@verizon.net The character of St Peter is both inspiring and confounding to many of us. How could a stubborn and impulsive fisherman become the “rock” upon which Jesus would build his Church? Bringing together biblical accounts, historical evidence, Church teaching, Classical art, and personal insight, Dr Gray gives a fresh perspective on Simon Peter that is immediately informative and relevant in our lives. After all, if Jesus could bring out the very best in someone like Peter, then there is hope for the rest of us.

Our Father in Heaven through the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, spare us during this Hurricane season from all harm. Protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
