PERSISTENCE

Exodus recounts the journey of the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to the land promised to their ancestors. It was not an easy journey. In today’s reading, they are attacked by Amalek and his soldiers, members of one of the peoples who live in the land through which the Israelites are traveling. Moses was on the hilltop with his arms raised to invoke the LORD’s assistance in the battle below, a powerful illustration of the LORD’s favor upon Israel. If the soldiers were to lift up their eyes to that hill (see Psalm 121:1), they would be reassured by Moses’s presence and posture. Paul urges the Thessalonians to persist in proclaiming the gospel, and Jesus likewise commends the widow for her persistence in pursuit of the justice due her. Whether they preach or pray, the followers of Jesus need persistence through periods of difficulty.

Disaster Relief Special Collection TODAY

The Diocese of St. Petersburg is helping people affected by Hurricane Ian. Bishop Gregory Parkes is asking all parishes and missions in the Diocese of St. Petersburg to hold a special collection for Disaster Relief in October. One hundred percent of the disaster relief funds will benefit people and the Church affected by natural disasters, including those impacted by Hurricane Ian in our own Diocese. Since 2017, the Diocese of St. Petersburg has donated over $1 million for disaster relief. Thank you for your generosity toward those attempting to rebuild their lives following catastrophic events, such as Hurricane Ian. Collection is TODAY. Thanksgiving Food Drive

Incarnation’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s mission is to lend a helping hand to those who are going through a difficult time. We are kicking off our 1st annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in order to provide a Thanksgiving Day meal for our Incarnation parishioners in need. If your family is in need, or you know of anyone in our parish family who may benefit from a Thanksgiving food bag, please call our helpline at 813-421-2201. Leave a brief message including your full name, phone number and the purpose of your call. Oct. 8th and 9th members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be distributing bags after all masses with the list of needed food items for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Monetary donations to purchase gift cards for turkeys will be appreciated. Please bring your filled grocery bag with the items listed below on October 15th and 16th or Oct. 22nd and 23rd after all masses. Food bags will be distributed on Saturday, November 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in front of St. Michael’s Hall. Thank you for caring and sharing with those in need. LA PERSISTENCIA

El libro del Éxodo narra el viaje de los israelitas desde la esclavitud en Egipto hasta la tierra prometida a sus antepasados. No fue un viaje fácil. En la lectura de hoy, son atacados por Amalec y sus soldados, integrantes de uno de los pueblos que habitaba por donde pasaron los israelitas. Moisés estaba en la cima de la montaña con los brazos levantados para invocar la ayuda del Señor en la batalla que estaba ocurriendo colina abajo, un ejemplo poderoso del favor del Señor sobre Israel. Si los soldados estuvieran con sus ojos hacia la colina (ver salmo 121:1), se sentirían tranquilos por la presencia y postura de Moisés. Pablo insta a los tesalonicenses a que perseveren en la proclamación del Evangelio, y Jesús elogia igualmente a la viuda por su persistencia en la búsqueda de la justicia que le corresponde. Ya sea que prediquen u oren, los seguidores de Jesús necesitan de la perseverancia en los períodos de dificultad.

La misión de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl de la iglesia de Encarnación es prestar una mano a aquellos que están pasando por un momento difícil. Estamos iniciando nuestra 1ª Campaña Anual de Alimentos de Acción de Gracias para proporcionar una comida del Día de Acción de Gracias para nuestros feligreses necesitados de nuestra iglesia. Si su familia está en necesidad, o si conoce a alguien de nuestra familia parroquial que pueda beneficiarse de una bolsa de alimentos de Acción de Gracias, llame a nuestra línea de ayuda al 813-421-2201.
