March 27, 2022 PARISH OFFICE Hours: 9am - 4pm 5124 Gateway Dr. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.885.7861 | www.icctampa.org SCHOOL OFFICE 5111 Webb Rd. Tampa, FL 33615 Ph. 813.884.4502 Fax: 813.885.3734 | www.icstampa.org.org

I pray these lines find all doing well. You all get a break this weekend – the Deacons are preaching. This works out well for us priests because we are usually preparing a homily but on the last Sunday of every month the Deacons preach and so we, as a listening part of the congregation also get fed by listening to the Deacons and their perspective on the Gospel. This weekend we hear one of my favorite Gospels – the prodigal son. A spiritual exercise which is sometimes used is where we place ourselves within the scene. We become one of the characters and reflect on their point of view within the story. The prodigal son, to say the least, is the most colorful of all the characters. Please allow me to be a little crass in my interpretation. The younger son says to his father, “Give me my share of the estate that should come to me.” The question I’m asking you all is, when is an estate divided? – when the person has died, right? So, in essence, the prodigal is saying to his father, “look, drop dead and give me your money.” The amazing thing is – the father does it. The prodigal goes away, spends it all and does “heaven knows what” and finds himself once again in dire straits. With no shame for what he has done he decides to go back to his father and seek forgiveness. He makes up this big speech he is going to give to his father to convince him to take him back, then he heads for home. The father sees his son coming back and runs out to meet him. The son tries to give his apology speech, but the father does not want to hear it. He doesn’t care why the son is back – he just wants him back – no excuses. The same applies for us, God does not care where we have been, He just wants us back. As you place yourself in the story, please know that everyone can only place themselves in the character of the prodigal – we are not the Father, and we are certainly not the good son (that would be a little delusional on our part.) God knows us inside and out, there is nothing He does not know. He does not care where we have been, He does not want our excuses – He simply wants us back! I am very grateful for my Deacons on many levels but one of those reasons this weekend is I do not have to read the Gospel out loud because I can never read this one without crying – Yup – your pastor is a “Rock!” LOL Have a great week! Love, Fr. Mike

Fourth Sunday of Lent

March 27, 2022

We’ve all heard the parable of the Prodigal Son, the focus of today’s Gospel, several times before. We know how it begins—the younger son squandering his inheritance—and we know how it ends—the son being welcomed back into his father’s house with open arms and a celebratory feast. But do we know what happens next? Do we stop to consider how the Prodigal Son’s life might have been transformed through that encounter with his father’s love and mercy? It’s likely that he experienced a sense of gratitude he never had before, when he had taken what his father had for granted. And it’s likely that this experience of gratitude transformed the way he lived and served on his father’s estate. Humbled by his great need and insufficiency, but also uplifted by his father’s love and providence, it’s easy to imagine that the once-Prodigal Son became a loyal and dependable partner in his father’s work, eager to give of himself Like the Prodigal Son, we’ve all experienced profound mercy from God our Father. Despite our sinfulness, He has redeemed us through Jesus and invites us to eternal life with Him. How has this radical and undeserved gift of mercy transformed us? Has it made us more humble, more grateful, and more willing to generously give of ourselves? Because it should! If we don’t feel or act upon this gratitude, now might be an appropriate time to reflect on why that is and how we can grow in this virtue. And once we’ve rekindled this gratefulness for all that God has given us, it might be a good time to consider how we can give of ourselves in turn. Supporting our diocesan Annual Appeal—which contributes to our Father’s work in our local Church—is one concrete way that we can respond in gratitude. Reflect upon your own experience of God’s loving, unmerited mercy and see how it prompts you to give.

Religious Education Ministry Judy Licari reled@icctampa.org

RCIA Interested in Becoming Catholic? Is God calling you? Are you looking to deepen your relationship with Jesus and be part of His Church? RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process of initiation by which individuals are fully received into the Catholic Church through the reception of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist or Communion. This process begins September 12th. If you, or anyone you may know, are interested in becoming Catholic or simply have questions regarding the Catholic faith, please contact Deacon Matt Shirina at 813-884-3624 or you can email him at dff@icctampa.org Dear Parishioners, The celebration of the Eucharist is the center of the entire Christian life both for the Church universally and for the local congregation of the Church. All the other sacraments, all the ministries of the Church, and the works of the apostolate are united with the Eucharist and are directed towards it. The Holy Eucharist contains the entire spiritual treasures of the Church, that is, Christ Himself, our Passover and living bread. Therefore, veneration and adoration which is due to God himself, has always been customary in the Catholic Church. We will be adding an additional opportunity for Exposition of the Holy Eucharist. Besides First Friday after Mass we will now be having Eucharist Adoration on Monday evening between 7 and 8 PM and will be conducted by the Deacons of Incarnation Parish. Please come and spend some time with Our Lord in silence. Blessings, Deacon Jim

Dear Parishioners, Once again, our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-inaction program that invites us to reflect on the challenges of global hunger— and our responsibility to respond to the needs of our global human family. The Gospel of Matthew (25:31-46) will be our constant reminder that we ought to commit to sharing what we have with those in need, trusting in God's abundance, and doing all we can to help feed the hungry. Through our Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving, we will be encouraged to respond to the call to make sure that all our brothers and sisters - and especially all children around the world - are fed good, nutritious food that gives them what they need to fulfill their God-given potential. During this holy season of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to focus our attention on three countries, namely, Rwanda, Guatemala, and Bangladesh. It is important that you come together as a family and reflect on the cross of hunger and lack of proper nutrition that so many of our brothers and sisters in those countries and all around the world are forced to endure. In so doing, all of us can pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. Please consider the following suggestions to fully engage in this year’s Lenten journey: • Use your 2022 Rice Bowl Calendar daily to guide your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. • Read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey. Visit Lenten Stories | CRS Rice Bowl or CRS’ You Tube channel to watch videos of the people and communities we will support through our Lenten gifts to CRS Rice Bowl. • Prepare simple, Meatless meals on all Fridays of Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world - you could even attempt to cook some food from the countries mentioned above! We will collect your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent. There will be baskets in the back of the church. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl with your family. Sincerely, Deacon Jim Minary 7

—Thomas Edison

HOMELESS LUNCH For questions call Juan 813-720-1153

LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Is 65:17-21; Sal 30 (29):2, 4-6, 11-13b; Jn 4:43-54 Martes: Ez 47:1-9, 12; Sal 46 (45):2-3, 5-6, 8-9; Jn 5:1-16 Miércoles: Is 49:8-15; Sal 145 (144):8-9, 13cd-14, 17-18; Jn 5:17-30 Jueves: Ex 32:7-14; Sal 106 (105):19-23; Jn 5:31-47 Viernes: Sab 2:1a, 12-22; Sal 34 (33):17-21, 23; Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 Sábado: Jer 11:18-20; Sal 7:2-3, 9bc-12; Jn 7:40-53 Domingo: Is 43:16-21; Sal 126 (125):1-6; Flp 3:8-14; Jn 8:1-11; Lecturas alternativas (Año A): Ez 37:12-14; Sal 130 (129):1-8; Rom 8:8-11; Jn 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45] COLECCION DE ALIMENTOS MENSUAL El próximo fin de semana tendremos nuestra colecta de alimentos.
