I pray these lines find you all doing well. Things are great here, if only it were a little hotter. LOL I want to take this opportunity to thank those people who have come out to help us with the outside renovation as well as a very special Thank You to Mariagloria Morales and Jose Clavell who have truly been the brains and brawn behind the work. Very few people have done so much. I realize also that there are so many who donated monetarily, and this is very much appreciated as well. We will give a lot more notice before the next scheduled work time, it is my hope that when we go out again to finish the work, we get a lot more volunteers. Today we hear about Martha and Mary in our Gospel. Two sisters who, in today’s story, are not exactly getting along so well. Jesus has entered the home and is teaching, Mary is sitting at his feet, listening while Martha is doing all the work to get the food ready. Does it seem fair – heck no – but Jesus is making a point. It is very easy for us to complicate our lives and get involved in many events and projects which can consume our time. At times we can be torn between having different things to do and prioritizing which is more important. I know there are some people who hear this Gospel and see Mary as lazy and “getting out of doing work” by sitting at Jesus’ feet but, as the Gospel says – Mary has chosen the better portion. What are we to glean from today’s Gospel? In today’s family there are many events which take place on the weekends. Some events take up the entire weekend and there seems to be no time to get to Mass and so Mass gets left out for the weekend – in tis scenario, the better portion has NOT been chosen. You who are forming young minds and hearts have a responsibility to bring priority to the faith. Once you became a parent you automatically gained a question God will ask you when your life has ended– “It was your responsibility to train your kids in the faith – did you do this?” In this scenario – God obviously knows the answer, but He wants to hear it from you. Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Incarnation Conference
Thanks to the generous support from our parish, we have assisted, from February to May, 47 households in our community with rent, utilities, food and other expenses. And we have been able to help them solely because of your generosity. The food pantry, located in what was previously the chapel, is now open two days a month on the fourth Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to noon for those who reside in the 33614, 33615, and 33635 zip codes. Those in need may also call 813-421-2201 for an appointment. We appreciate your continued support with food and monetary donations every third Sunday of the month. If you are interested in learning more about our organization, we welcome you to join us at our monthly meetings every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 in the pantry. RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process of initiation by which individuals are fully received into the Catholic Church through the reception of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist or Communion. All the other sacraments, all the ministries of the Church, and the works of the apostolate are united with the Eucharist and are directed towards it. The Holy Eucharist contains the entire spiritual treasures of the Church, that is, Christ Himself, our Passover and living bread. Therefore, veneration and adoration which is due to God himself, has always been customary in the Catholic Church. Besides First Friday after Mass we will now be having Eucharist Adoration on Monday evening between 7 and 8 PM and will be conducted by the Deacons of Incarnation Parish. SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME LA ORACIÓN Y EL SERVICIO ¿Cómo podemos dar alegría y balance a nuestras vidas de oración y servicio a nuestro Dios amoroso? En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús le dice a Marta que su preocupación por hacer lo correcto, como lo ordena la tradición judía, podría no ser el mejor uso de sus energías. Su hermana María, que atraída se sienta a los pies de Jesús, no debe ser reprendida. ¿Está Jesús tratando de mostrar a Marta que debe dedicar más tiempo a su alimentación espiritual? En la primera lectura, Abraham y Sara parecen ser como Marta. Y, sin embargo, la bienvenida entusiasta y atención alegre de Abraham a sus “visitantes” parecen casi espiritual. En la segunda lectura, Pablo se regocija en su servicio al Evangelio. Escuchamos en el salmo que los que hacen justicia vivirán en la presencia del Señor.
