GOD’S LAW

Scripture has always held God’s law to be the path to human happiness. In today’s first reading, Ezra the priest reads the scroll of the law to the people returned from exile. They weep—then are joyful. Israel’s relationship with God had always been defined by how they kept and lived God’s law. The author of Psalm 96 likewise praises the law of God as the source of wisdom, joy and enlightenment, purity and justice. In his advice to the bickering Corinthians, Paul points out that, just as God has made all parts of a human body essential for the health of the whole, living as “Christ’s body” requires that each member be recognized as necessary for the good of all. Finally, in Luke’s Gospel Jesus claims that the Spirit is sending him to relieve human suffering. Like Ezra, he is reading from a scroll, proclaiming God’s “law” of mercy to those in need.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul -Incarnation Conference is busy getting ready to open February 2022. Our mission is to serve our community through home visits and a food pantry. We are asking you, our fellow Incarnation parishioners, to support us through monetary and food donations every third Sunday of the month. In addition, we are actively looking for more volunteers. Thank you for your prayers and support as we begin this worthy endeavor.

BIBLE STUDY Jesus: The Way, the Truth and the Life On Tuesday evening, 7-9pm beginning January 18, 2022, the Incarnation Bible Study Group will begin a 10-week study on the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus is more than a historical or theological figure. He is our Savior, our Redeemer, our Lord, our God, our brother and our friend. While many of us already know a lot about him, how well can we say we really know him? Filmed on location in the Holy Land, this program is a new and fresh look at Jesus – who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, and what he did for our salvation. As Christians, we say we want to live with Him forever in the heavenly kingdom; how about in our worldly life? This encounter with Christ will inspire and empower you to center your entire life on him as you come to know and love him in an and ever-deeper and more intimate way. Participants will need online service, and computer or phone with audio and video capabilities. If you are interested, please call or text Donna Burch at 813-541-8506 to be placed on the email list. Also, each participant must purchase directly from AscensionPress.com and individual study set: workbook, book, and timeline chart, along with a year-long online access to the weekly videos. The cost is $38-$39 with shipping. Please order early in interested.
