I pray these lines find all doing well, all is good here at “Incarnation Central.” So amazing that next week is Palm Sunday – where does the time go? I know part of it is that the office and workload is very busy – it’s keeping me out of trouble. LOL We hear today the passage about the woman caught in the act of adultery, a very rough Gospel and yet we see the compassion and forgiveness of Jesus. I am always compelled to correct where correction is needed, this woman spoken of is NOT Mary Magdalene. Broadway and Hollywood have put out some wonderful renditions about the life of Jesus, but poor Mary has been linked in as the adulterous woman – this is untrue! All we know of Mary Magdalene is that Jesus removed seven demons from her and that is all we know. We see in today’s Gospel that back then it was truly a man’s world. This woman was caught I the act of adultery, where is the man? Today really calls us to look at ourselves. It is so easy to see the faults in others. If people have, what we would call “larger sins” than we do, we kind of give ourselves a break and say – yeah, I do this but at least I don’t do that!! It is not a contest, and we are never to compare ourselves with another. When we see God face to face to give an accounting of our lives, our accountings are not allowed to start with the words- well my wife …// well, my husband…/ my friend… God is gonna stop us right there! We are responsible for our lives, the decisions we have made, the life we have lived and before God there will be no comparison allowed. Jesus makes it very clear for us to live the rest of our lives with the simple words said to this woman; Go, and from now on do not sin any more. God Bless Your week! Love, Fr. Mike

We see this clearly in today’s Gospel, when he not only intervenes to save the life of the woman caught in adultery, but also invites her to a life free of sin and lived for God. Life in Christ, then, isn’t primarily about avoiding bad things. It really is an invita on to live a life of abundance by embracing what is good. It’s more of a posi ve proposal for our lives, less of a list of “do not’s.” Lent is a me of embracing this invita on to fullness of life by engaging in prac ces that free us from self-reliance and a achment to sin. Prayer helps us to depend upon God more fully. Penance helps us to loosen the hold of things and habits that can compromise our freedom. And almsgiving frees us from self-preoccupa on by taking on the needs of another. How are you doing in each of these areas? If you’re looking for an opportunity to engage in almsgiving, please consider suppor ng our diocese’s Catholic Ministry Appeal. You’ll not only be contribu ng to our very real needs—you’ll also be enabling us to con nue Christ’s work of invi ng others into the fullness of life he offers. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul mission is to serve our community through home visits and a food pantry to assist families who find themselves in need. Our community consists of the zip codes 33614, 33615, and 33635 so if you are living in this area and need assistance, please call 813-421-2201. If interested in attending our meetings, they are every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Additionally, we are asking our fellow Incarnation parishioners to support us through monetary and food donations every third Sunday of the month. To assist us in having an effective pantry, please no expired food and no glass jar items. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you. Food Pantry list to guide you: Canned Items for Meals. Vegetables, Meats, Tuna, Beans, Soups, Meals - ex. Chili, Beef Stew, Spaghetti-o’s, etc. Additional Canned Goods: Fruits, Gravy, Milk, Pasta Sauce Boxed or Bagged Goods Rice, Potatoes, Pasta, Ramen Noodles, Bisquick, Pancake Mix, Oatmeal, Cereal Plastic Jar Items Peanut butter, jelly, syrup Dear Parishioners, Once again, our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-inaction program that invites us to reflect on the challenges of global hunger— and our responsibility to respond to the needs of our global human family. The Gospel of Matthew (25:31-46) will be our constant reminder that we ought to commit to sharing what we have with those in need, trusting in God's abundance, and doing all we can to help feed the hungry. Through our Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving, we will be encouraged to respond to the call to make sure that all our brothers and sisters - and especially all children around the world - are fed good, nutritious food that gives them what they need to fulfill their God-given potential. During this holy season of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to focus our attention on three countries, namely, Rwanda, Guatemala, and Bangladesh. It is important that you come together as a family and reflect on the cross of hunger and lack of proper nutrition that so many of our brothers and sisters in those countries and all around the world are forced to endure. In so doing, all of us can pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. Please consider the following suggestions to fully engage in this year’s Lenten journey: • Use your 2022 Rice Bowl Calendar daily to guide your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. • Read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey. Visit Lenten Stories | CRS Rice Bowl or CRS’ You Tube channel to watch videos of the people and communities we will support through our Lenten gifts to CRS Rice Bowl. • Prepare simple, Meatless meals on all Fridays of Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world - you could even attempt to cook some food from the countries mentioned above! We will collect your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent. There will be baskets in the back of the church. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl with your family. Sincerely, Deacon Jim Minary 7
