Editor's Message

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe its already second quarter this key club term. I'm both surprised and shocked at how much we have gotten done and how much more we having coming up. Little did I know how much key club would mean to be just half way through the term of being a board member. I love this club with all my heart and can't imagine where I would be without it.

To finish off October, we have service events planned for every weekend and even some weekdays! Getting service hours has never been easier. The amount of articles and visuals summited this month is astonishing! I'm glad things are getting back to normal after the Corona Virus Pandemic. It makes me feel good, about my community and myself, I hope you guys can feel the same way too!

Again, we thank all the dedicated members that took their time and consideration to submit some articles and visuals! This month's article shoutout goes to Avery Bautista (Secretary, grade 10)! She wrote on her experience during our Tailgate (more on this on page 4!).

Articles and Visuals

"This years tailgate was a success and definitely went better than last years lol. There seemed to be way more students present for this tailgate and a lot of new clubs participated too. Our booth sold ShareTea and the two flavors were Thai Tea w/boba and Strawberry Green Tea w/lychee jelly. Our sales were great, but there were quite a few complainers who were stunned at the amount of tickets we were charging. I think the best part of tailgate was the water activities students could participate in. Orchestra was doing water balloons and I was able to soak my SAA, Diviyana, sorry Divi haha. It was a little embarrassing because majority of my balloons didn't hit anyone and it just bounced off. After tailgate, the football game was starting and unfortunately I couldn't attend the parade. I still cheered and was there in spirit! :)

Tailgate

Every year, Desert Oasis High School hosts a tailgate to prepare for the homecoming football game. Here, clubs get the chance to promote what they are and fundraise with either food or games. To make sure we represent our Key Club strong, we showed up and sold ShareTea! We sold two flavors, Strawberry and Thai tea and ended up selling all 150 cups with the help of yearbook. After tailgate, all the leftover cups were sold by the photography club, giving all profit to key club. Also at tailgate, several of our board members volunteered for Orchestra, to get water balloons thrown at them. Members such as Stephanie Mallari (President of DOHS Key Club) ended up getting soaked by these attacks. In the end, it was all fun in games a could definitely be considered a success!

Homecoming Parade

After tailgate, during the halftime of the football game, Desert Oasis hosted a half-time parade. This gives every club a chance to show their support and persuade others to join. Our performance during this parade showed our strength as a club to work together and support one another. Both time and consideration was put into this event well before it occurred. The grey with blue letters (pictured below) was created by the hands of every board member during our board bonding. In addition, most members used their art skills to show off their support. During one of our general meetings, members we able to create posters for service hours. Many came up with beautiful works of art, we thank each and every member that participated!

St. Judes Run/Walk + Board Bonding

On the 24th of September, the famous, astounding organization of St.Judes hosted a run/walk to raise both money and awareness to beat cancer! As a club, we thank everyone who was able to make it out and help cheer on the runners/walkers. This even gave us an oppurtunity to practice simple "Key Club Cheers" in a real-world scenario!

After losing voices and energy, our board attended our first ever Board Bonding in which all members we able to attend! Our lovely SAA Diviyana Kumar hosted it at her house! Thank you Diviy! There, we planned RTC, took care of old and new business and made posters for upcoming events (pages 5 and 6).
