THE GOOD DOUGH
With the changing of the season, thoughts turn to an update for your wardrobe, and your home. Vases are an affordable way to introduce a new theme to your space. Fill them with autumnal blooms or leaves, leave them bare, or cluster into groups of complementary colours and shapes. We love the earthy good looks of this new range from Freedom Furniture. ●
Gluten-free and sourdough are terms that don’t usually go together but the team at Zeally Bay Sourdough is determined to change that. The bakery’s new organic sourdough, made with millet and linseed, is a tasty option for those who want to avoid gluten (but who do not have a medical hyper-sensitivity to gluten). It’s available at the usual stockists. ●

he Geelong region’s rental market continues to tighten, with house rents rising sharply. The latest Domain group data shows the median weekly asking rent for Geelong houses during February was $355, which is up 4.4 per cent on the same month in 2016. The Surf Coast has also recorded a sharp increase, with rents rising a hefty 6 per cent to $478 a week in February. Although house rents have surged in the past year, unit rents have remained relatively flat or have fallen. Weekly rentals for units were steady last month at $280. Surf Coast unit rents fell 6.8 per cent in the 12 months to February, to $370 a week. For investors, higher rents have been offset by higher prices. In the past year, gross yields for houses in Geelong have fallen from 5 per cent to 4.8 per cent. In the same period, gross yields for units increased from 5.1 per cent to 5.5 per cent. The most expensive suburb for house rentals in the Geelong region last month was Torquay at $500 a week, followed by Jan Juc ($470), Ocean Grove ($430), Barwon Heads ($430) and Waurn Ponds ($428). COULD YOUR KITCHEN DO WITH A FACELIFT...AT LESS COST?
Started out \ Eight years ago. Before that I worked in sales for home improvement products. I liked the idea of the commission potentials in property – it’s a rare job where you really do get out of it what you put in. Best part of the job \ The flexibility and doing something different every minute. It’s so varied. I’m going through a different house or talking to different people every day. Geelong’s eelong’s property hot spot \ Leopold. It’s had great growth in the past 12 months and it’s only going to continue with all of the development that’s happening. People in Geelong neglected it for so long, but it’s finally coming into its own. Buyers are realising the value it offers as well as the lifestyle. It’s close to the city and Ocean Grove’s beaches, so it’s ideal for families. My favourite place? The Geelong Botanic Gardens; it’s such a beautiful spot with views of the bay through the trees. On days off I like to … Spend time with my partner and my dog. Lately we’ve been getting the ferry to Sorrento and grabbing a pizza – it’s a great way to spend a day off. ●

or any celebrity worth their Manolo Blahniks, it wasn’t so long ago that having their own perfume was the ultimate sign they’d really made it. These days, though, famous faces are just as likely to launch their own homewares collection as they are to lend their name to a signature scent. With the likes of Megan Gale, Miranda Kerr and Rebecca Judd getting in on the homewares act, we caught up with some well-known Aussies who have designs on your home. ● smarinos@theweeklyreview.com.au
MEGAN HESS
M
Megan Hess spends her days in her all-white Melbourne studio using her trusty Montblanc pen, Monty, to create illustrations for leading brands. In 2008, she was asked by author Candace Bushnell to illustrate the re-issue of her bestseller, Sex and the City City. Soon after, major brands began calling. In between commissions for some of the world’s leading fashion houses, Megan has turned her attention to a homewares range that includes cushions, vases, plates and napkins, which sell globally via her website. “I’ve always been passionate about interiors,” Megan says. “No matter where I’ve lived, or my financial circumstances, I’ve made the most of the spaces I’ve lived or worked in. I used to work off my dining room table in a tiny apartment, and I made that space as lovely as I could.” Megan’s homewares have been inspired by her travels, and she always carries a sketchbook. “When you are somewhere you’ve not been before, you see different people and hear different sounds and it switches on a different trail of thought that leads to a new idea,” she says.
(MARTINA GRANOLIC)
egan Hess’s fashion illustrations have a global audience thanks to a client list that includes Montblanc, Fendi, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Cartier, and Valentino. Now she is using her talents to create stylish pieces for homes.
“I design everything myself, sample fillings for cushions and choose the colours and fabrics. I’ll sample 10 different colourways to find the right shade of pink for a cushion. I am a perfectionist.” Recently, Megan was invited to work on a teaware collection for Wedgwood, which has been making fine china and porcelain for more than 200 years. “They wanted to incorporate illustrations of modern tea parties on teaware,” she says. “Working with such history was a joy.”

elbourne’s own queen of ultrafeminine personalised stationery was born in Rome and attended art school in Italy at the age of 13. Cristina Re later studied design at Swinburne University, and began her working life as a photographer before launching her eponymous stationery line. When Cristina decided to open a concept store in Collingwood, selling her personalised stationery, she wanted to create a little piece of Paris. So she opened a cafe in the shop and designed a range of vintage style teaware reminiscent of the most luxurious Parisian salons. “I travelled to France a lot and loved the beautiful patisseries and I created a mini high tea salon with very French decor,” she says. “Then I
designed my own teaware because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted in Melbourne.” Customers fell in love with the tea cups and saucers in rose pink and gold, so Cristina began producing the range commercially, adding teapots, plates, old-style cake stands and sugar bowls to the range. They are now sold in gift stores around Australia and worldwide. She updates her collections every few months. The latest, Paradise Palms, has a tropical influence, while Cristina’s personal favourite, Crystalline, is inspired by rose quartz. “I follow fashion and look at what is happening in couture and interior design to stay contemporary. It’s all about luxury, high quality and design that will last.” ●

eci Orpin has developed a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most admired artists and designer illustrators. Her latest project is a book called Sunshine Spaces, which details projects designed to bring the outdoors into the home. What’s Beci Orpin’s ideal Saturday morning? For the self-described “nester”, it has to be rearranging the furniture in her West Brunswick house. “As a teenager living in a 1940s-style bungalow in Kew East, I was desperate for a warehouse-style bedroom,” she says. “I ripped up my carpets but my parents wouldn’t let me polish the floorboards so I had bare boards and a double bed on a simple base and a clothing rack. lots of collections of things on the wall – I remember lots of Coca-Cola memorabilia.” Beci now lives in a double-storey Victorian terrace. “Inside it’s quite eclectic and I’m certainly not a minimalist. When I see something I like, I buy it,” she says. One of her most recent acquisitions was a green and pink vintage Argentinian rug bought on her travels. After working as creative director with the ARRO Home online store for three years, designing linens, quilt covers, rugs, kitchenware and tableware in bold colours and patterns, Beci’s focus is now on home projects anyone can try. Sunshine Spaces shows readers how to make natural dyes, press flowers, make a macrame chair and whip up some outdoor cushions, among other home-grown crafts. “I recently tried natural dyeing using acorns and that was a lot of fun because I had no idea how it would work out,” Beci says. ● » beciorpin.com

he’s the girl next door whose stint presenting The Block has only furthered her passion for interior design. But, as a busy mum to two young daughters, Shelley Craft believes homewares should be all about durability and practicality. Shelley Craft’s interest in home style was sparked early. “Mum was very particular and wouldn’t let us leave home for school if our rooms weren’t tidy and our beds weren’t made. So there was always a real pride of house when I was growing up,” Shelley says. “Mum and dad built two of our family homes in the 1980s, so I was exposed to designing through that.” As a young adult, living in share households, Shelley never paid much attention to interior design. But her interest was rekindled while travelling as a presenter with The Great Outdoors. “We stayed in so many different places [and] I always took great interest in the interiors. I’d love to do an interior design
course if I had a moment to study but with two kids and a job it won’t be any time soon.” Still Shelley has found an outlet for her passion, working as an ambassador with Pillow Talk. “I’d love to do a range of cushions and throws with them because they’re an easy way to update your home every season,” she says. Shelley has also worked on a flooring collection for Carpet Court called the Real Living collection. “I like to do things as easily and quickly as possible and within a budget,” she says. “The floor coverings are low-maintenance, eco-friendly and easy to lay. I like the timber look and, living in Byron Bay, I like pale and whiteish laminates. Vinyl is great here because there is so much sand. Shelley describes her own home style as “easy luxury with a coastal tribal feel”. There are items she’s collected on her travels dotted around her house. “It’s not a show home but there is history here,” she says. ● » www.carpetcourt.com.au » pillowtalk.com.au

Before she became one of Australia’s most famous interior designers, Shaynna Blaze had her sights set on a career as an artist. “My aunty was an artist and I wanted to study fine arts before I got into interior design,” she says. “I did a lot of commission pieces for clients initially, but gradually I was taken away from my art because I was so busy with interior design and then TV.” A collaboration with online gallery and homewares store Urban Road rekindled her passion, and she has designed a series of works inspired by nature – from stormy skies to the intricacies of a butterfly’s wing. The artworks are just one aspect of Shaynna’s burgeoning homewares portfolio, which includes a lighting range for OneWorld, inspired by a trip to Milan and New York; a beach-inspired range for The Rug Collection; and a furniture collection, made by local company Molmic, which she describes as “classic and timeless”.

haynna Blaze is one busy woman. When she’s not fronting Selling Houses Australia or The Block Block,, she runs a successful interior design business, blankcanvas INTERIORS. She also recently launched an online shop, stocking her line of rugs, artworks, furniture and lighting.
“Timeless, for me, is a well-worn structured dinner suit or a black-and-white movie. It’s about a chair that you sit in and don’t want to get out of, with strong, simple lines, fine tapered legs and detail in the back,” she says. “Many people have open-plan living and are too scared to put a chair or couch in the centre of a room, so I’ve created chairs and sofas where the details are in the back as much as in the front.” As for her own home style, she describes it as a mix of “formal structure with chaos in between”. “I have a base and I can add a lamp, use a throw and cushion, move a few pieces and change the look of a room within 20 minutes.” A favourite item in her own home is the Cary chair – a 1.5-seat leather chair with an embellished back. “My husband and son rave about it. You can sit in it as a couple, curl up in it alone, or sit with a child and read them a story.” ●

What’s your favourite feature in the kitchen? T: “Our kitchen has a dark marble benchtop, which I love because you can get great food shots. My sister and I make a lot of videos, so the kitchen has to look good when we’re cooking.” Favourite dish to cook at home? T: “One of my signature dishes is Singaporean chilli crab with rice and mantou.” G: “Mine is a traditional Indonesian fried chicken dish called ayam goreng. It reminds me of visiting my grandmother in Indonesia.” What can’t you live without? T: “I love my KitchenAid mixer. It’s deep purple like a boysenberry, so I called it Berry. I need a lot of dough when I make bao, so I use it to speed up the process.”
G: “I can’t live without my hand mixer. It’s like a mini food processor, but it’s much handier. I use it for spice bases and sauces.” What do you always have in your fridge or pantry? T: “Rice is one of our staples, so when it’s running low, mum or one of us always tops it up. And there’s always a stock of chilli.” G: “We make sure we always have eggs. It means I can whip up a nice Thai omelette whenever I want.” Anything you’d change about your kitchen? T: “I love the kitchen in the film It’s Complicated. It’s rustic and open with marble benches and a lot of white. ” G: “Everyone always talks about wardrobes for clothes and shoes, but I want a walk-in pantry instead.” Tasia and Gracia will host a cooking demonstration at Box Hill Central Fresh Food Market on April 8, as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. melbournefoodandwine.com.au tasiaandgracia.com @tasia.seger \ @gracia.seger

She’s also an ambassador for Queen Victoria Market.
Melbourne midwives and best friends Karen Gawne and Ros Waters are battling it out on the current season of My Kitchen Rules. They’re also raising awareness about the importance of healthy eating during pregnancy.
Favourite kitchen feature? “I have beautiful glossy cabinetry from Scavolini in Richmond, made in Italy from recycled materials. I also love my Smeg stand mixer, which is great for making pavlova and bread. It takes out all of the grunt work.” Favourite dish to cook at home? “My default for parties is pavlova. They were just so out of fashion in the ’90s, so I used to make them ironically. But now they’ve really made a comeback and everyone loves them. I put rosewater into the base, make a pistachio mascarpone cream and smash pomegranate all over it.”

I always have a jar of it in my fridge. I also can’t live without eggs from my mum and dad’s farm. Luckily mum always brings me some when she visits. Eggs are a great snack and fantastic to cook with.”
Favourite dish to cook at home? K: “I like to experiment with different versions of tiramisu. My favourite is the lamington one, in which I use a chocolate instead of coffee, with a raspberry coulis and mascarpone filling.” R: “I love cooking our beef cheek ragout. hen it comes to getting her game on, Geelong girl-turned-Australian Diamonds netball star and Collingwood Magpies captain Madi Robinson has one key ingredient – the kitchen of the Ascot Vale apartment she shares with husband Todd. Why is the kitchen so important to you? When I first started to establish myself as an elite player, the kitchen is where I educated myself the most. I found myself on the bench and I wasn’t sure why, and the coach said I needed to get fitter and start thinking about my nutrition. That was when I found that what I put in my body made an enormous difference to my performance, and I haven’t really looked back since.
(MICHAEL RAYNER)
What’s your go-to appliance? My blender and food processor tend to get a workout. When I come home from training, I want things that are quick, healthy and fuelling for the body. What’s at the top of your menu? I have a really big sweet tooth, but I have to watch what I eat, so one thing I like to experiment with is raw sweets. I might whip up a few bliss balls and take them to the girls at training. I also love to make Ani Phyo’s raspberry ganache fudge cake, which contains nothing more than dates, walnuts, cacao, agave syrup, avocado and a pinch of salt. ● SARAH HARRIS » Madi leads the Collingwood Magpies against Melbourne Vixens at Hisense Arena, Apri1 2 at 3pm. trend towards more moody, opulent shades. “Not brights so much as rich greens, blues, terracottas and plums, or more muted variants in the green or blue spectrum,” Kate says. “Colours that work back well with a natural material palette.”
Moody light \ Lighting is changing
from being just one source to mood lighting, with pendants still popular. Kate says lighting is vital in bathrooms and should be carefully considered to eliminate shadows. Just don’t forget about safety regulations: a light overhanging a bath shouldn’t exceed 12 volts.
Organic shapes \ People are moving back to curved mirrors, while egg-shaped and non-symmetrical curves are strong in baths and basins.
highlight for the avant-garde because it goes well with metallics. Be careful not to overdo it. “You need extra light with darker tones as the black tends to suck in all the light,” Kate says.
the ubiquitous subway design and more of the handcrafted variety that have finishes with character and texture. “There is a groundswell of smaller artisans making a mark,” Kate says.
Plants \ The move towards modernism
has brought plants and views into bathrooms.
Bespoke joinery \ Joinery is
becoming bespoke and more like a piece of furniture. “People are tailoring their homes to suit their particular needs,” Kate says.
Big sky \ Oversized skylights are
becoming popular, especially over showers. “They accentuate the generosity of space,” Kate says.

“Moody greys and dark browns are coming back in,” says Kate, “along with the white tones, which are still popular.”
industrial \ Channelling an industrial aesthetic, concrete will be popular, especially behind baths. Quality tapware is the go, and copper and brass tapware in a brushed finish will be popular, as opposed to shinier finishes.

Two-tone \
Black and white, and black and muted grey, will be popular for their classic style and impact. “A two-tone bathroom allows people to add their own colour, taste and flair, and can appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers,” Joe says. Kate recommends pairing darker tones with white. A dark tile on the floor makes the room look bigger, while a white wall tile bounces light around, she says.

any modern homes don’t have much space to spare for a garden; the yard is often just a few paces in each direction. But with thoughtful planning and some imagination, even a courtyard can become a botanic wonderland – and the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show has set up the perfect challenge to prove it. The Boutique Garden Competition challenges landscape architects, designers and students to design a 5x5-metre space. The five finalists will build their gardens at MIFGS, which kicks off on March 29. Emmaline Bowman, 29, has won a place in the finals just months after setting up her own company, Stem Landscape Design. Growing up on a farm in East Gippsland, Emmaline developed a passion for revegetating creeks and wildlife corridors. Her master’s degree work won her an award for bringing animals into the landscape, and that has been her focus since. “Humans have become disconnected from nature, but when we’re stimulated by plants or animals our health improves,” she says. “I’ve gone into my boutique garden with this concept – mine is an ecosystem. It’s also a very soft and inviting landscape with lots of plants and water. The challenge is keeping it simple and having zones that complement each other – it’s easy to put too much in a small space.” But Emmaline finds space limitations can help, too. “The benefits are you can create perspective and views more easily. In a little plot, if you frame it well you can capture what it’s all about immediately, whereas in a bigger garden you have to help people find that journey.” Another finalist is Joel Barnett, 34, from InStyle Gardens in Geelong. After two years of helping students construct their MIFGS show designs, Joel entered the new Boutique Garden category in his own right last year and came third. Apart from the logistics of building a temporary garden in an inner-city park with several tree protection zones to work around, Joel says scale is the biggest challenge. “Scale becomes much more important in such a small area. Last year, I used a curved bench seat that was maybe a bit big for the site. Another lesson is just being more organised and having as much as possible built beforehand.” Landscapers have nine days to construct their show gardens and, because the Carlton Gardens is a World Heritage Site, nothing is allowed to penetrate the ground. The theme for Joel’s garden this year is “lush”, inspired by his love of tropical foliage and a desire to create a holiday-type environment at home; a style that is much in demand in the holiday homes he landscapes on the Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road. “I love plants with interesting foliage all year round. There is still a big push towards low-maintenance gardens and foliage plants are low-maintenance anyway, much more so than lawns,” he says. As well as a plunge pool, deck and pergola, Joel’s design features vertical gardens and green walls. He is also keen to make the most of the Gardens by Twilight evening session on Friday, March 31. “Using lights is an underrated part of garden design – you can play with shadows and it looks completely different to during the day.” ●
wildlife, what you want to fix and what you want to keep. Keep the space simple and uncluttered. Use vertical elements to maximise the space. If using decking or paving, use smaller boards or pavers to create more detail. Soft, light colours make a space seem bigger. Consider the scale of furniture. A table with a glass top or chairs with holes in the pattern can feel less obtrusive. Create a focal point and frame the garden through planting, art or furniture. Activate the senses – it’s easier to achieve sensory design in a small area that captures smells, sounds, and temperatures. If you want a fruit tree, go for a pretrained, espaliered one. Engage a designer to help create your design and remember that builders should be registered for projects of more than $5000. Domestic building insurance is needed for work over $16,000. ●

on’t fret if you think you have paid $10,000 or $20,000 too much,’’ Matt Plunkett (Buxton Newtown) told the crowd of 90 outside 22 Knight Avenue, A Herne Hill, on Saturday. “You’ll make it up in a month!’’ Matt told the onlookers that Herne Hill, like Belmont across the river, had experienced growth like few other suburbs in Geelong. “The options here are endless,’’ the auctioneer said. “Hence the crowd we have here today.’’ A woman was quick to offer $385,000 for the two-bedroom weatherboard on a block of almost 680 square metres, sparking a keen contest that squeezed out interest from four other parties. At $435,000, Matt announced that the property was “well and truly on the market’’. The bids continued to flow and the woman who opened proceedings was still in the frame. She got pipped at the line, however, as the hammer came down at $480,000 in favour of the fifth party who got involved. The buyers, a young couple from Melbourne, intend to move to the property at some stage down the track. Over in the aforementioned Belmont, at 5 Kenneth Street, Dave Gray (Buxton Highton) was in the process of proving the point about that suburb’s strength. He took an opening bid of $370,000 for the two-bedroom weatherboard, in need of some attention, on a block of just under 770 square metres. Seventy onlookers watched as two parties took the mark to $450,000, at which point Dave said the property was on the market. “I don’t have a cure for underbidder’s headache,’’ he told one of the parties. That bidder soon dropped out as another took up the fight. They went at it for another

22 KNIGHT AVENUE, HERNE HILL 39 bids – making a total of 49 – until Dave brought the hammer down at $520,000. The winners were a local family who have bought the property as an investment. Dave earlier sold 15 Brocka Avenue, A Belmont, after passing the property in at $630,000. The stylishly renovated threebedroom house was quickly snapped up for a higher, undisclosed price, by a young family from interstate. Out-of-towners also took the prize at 23 Cara Road, Highton, where Kieron Hunter (Barry Plant Highton) told the crowd of 80 that “you won’t find a better backdrop in Geelong’’. Kieron posted a vendor bid of $690,000 and took an offer of $700,000 before passing the property in. He sold it soon after for $730,000, a price he said he believes is a record for a three-bedroom, one-bathroom property in Highton. Andy Ingham (Buxton Newtown) told
the 25 onlookers at 167 Church Street, Manifold Heights, to go the extra mile for the low-maintenance two-bedroom brick house. “If you’re going to spend an extra five, 10, 15 or 20 thousand dollars, now’s the time to do it,’’ he said. A young woman was quick to offer $375,000 and two other parties got involved. One of them was on her phone trying to get some instructions. “He’s still in bed,’’ she told the auctioneer. At another stage, she seemed to be having trouble gaining reception. “I’ve got a spare phone if you need one,’’ Andy said. In the end, the young woman who started proceedings was still in front when the hammer came down at $420,000. She and her partner, both from Melbourne, plan to relocate to the property. ●

Harcourts North Geelong’s Shane King sold 46 Fairy Street, Bell Post Hill, for $410,000 at auction. The three-bedroom brick house has two street frontages, a generous block and potential for a renovation or even development.
David Gray from Buxton Highton sold 5 Kenneth Street, Belmont, for $520,000, which was above expectations. Four bidders made a play for the house on a 767 square-metre block. It has two bedrooms but is ideal for a makeover or development, given the size of the allotment.
Barry Plant South Barwon’s Kieron Hunter brought the hammer down at $730,000 for 23 Cara Road, Highton. The renovated three-bedroom house offers luxury, open-plan living with a modernist design and retro accents. It’s just minutes from the Barwon River and Highton Village.

his hidden pocket of Highton is home to some of Geelong’s most impressive houses, all with views to match. But it’s hard to imagine anything more impressive than this residence. It offers a fresh approach to design that wows from the minute you set foot inside, yet it also knows when to take a step back to allow the location to take centre stage. When it comes to locations, the crests of Highton’s hills provide inspiring backdrops – some enjoy glimpses of the city and the bay, others overlook the tree-lined Barwon River. This home, atop one of Highton’s highest peaks, enjoys clear views of both, along with the You Yangs and Barwon Heads; in fact, all of Geelong’s landmarks can be appreciated from the living room. On a clear day, you can even see the Melbourne skyline. The views are unrivalled, as is the house. Built in 2004 by David McDonald Builders, of Flying Brick Cider House fame, the luxury three-bedroom house was designed by Darren Grayson and is a stunning example of contemporary architecture. It hugs the contours of the 780-square-metre site and uses only the finest finishes. As an example, the flooring is double-thickness marine ply stained in Japanese black, one of the highest-end forms of timber flooring available. The tiling in the bathrooms is European and a freestanding Kohler bath makes for an indulgent zone. There’s also a nod to Mediterranean design on the exterior, with white rendered walls creating a sense of calm. Inside is a vision of indulgence and high-end style. Skylights and drop boxes give interest to the hallway ceiling and also draw in light. To one side of the hallway is the main bedroom suite, which has a walk-in wardrobe and en suite with double shower. There’s a home office nearby, which could easily be converted to a fourth bedroom as it has a built-in wardrobe. On the other side of the hall are bedrooms two and three, each of which have built-in wardrobes. The hall steps up to a formal lounge, which is carpeted and has a wall of built-in cabinetry and a gas fireplace. It also has bifold doors to the first of two decks. Another set of steps take you to the showpiece of the house – the open-plan living and dining area. In here, a towering butterfly ceiling creates an immense feeling of light and space, while floor-to-ceiling windows capture the glorious outlook. It’s also from here that you get your first glance of the luxurious 24-metre in-ground infinity-edge Guseli lap pool with panoramic views. Behind a partition wall off the open-plan zone is a designer kitchen, with a central island bench large enough for informal meals. Stone benchtops, Miele appliances – including a built-in coffee machine – and a large walk-in pantry ensure only the best is on offer. Exposed wine glass racks add an industrial edge and make for easy access. Behind the kitchen are the laundry and third bathroom, ideal after you’ve had a dip in the pool. The house also has a double garage with a storeroom, currently used as a wine cellar. ● SARAH BIESKE property@domain.com.au

“My father was a pioneer in cataract implant surgery from 1963! He has now passed away but some of his patients still come in for a check-up. Not only is this inspirational, it also demonstrates that good surgery outlasts the surgeon, Dr Stubbs says. A specialist who helps people who have been advised they are unsuitable for laser surgery, Dr Stubbs is also committed to demonstrating that age, corneal distortion or astigmatism are no barriers to eliminating the need for glasses.

One of my best moments was treating a 12-year-old girl who was struggling at school because of poor vision due to congenital cataracts even with the use of thick glasses. Now 10 years later, she still has 20/20 vision without glasses. That inspires me.

“Seeing my patients’ bright smiles after surgery, as they stop squinting and can read without glasses, is definitely the best part of my job.
