STINGRAY REPORT

DIVISIONÂ UPDATE

HAMPTON BAYS DIVISIONAL RECAPÂ During our Divisional, we talked about upcoming events on the club, division, district, and international levels. We talked about Fall Rally and the shirts being sold there. Tracy Kolsin our guest speaker talked about a few things going on in the Town of Southampton and explained how the Key Clubs could team up with the Youth Bureau to churn out some great service projects. Hampton Bays announced their Powder Puff game on October 30th (all are invited/admission will be no more than $5) and Riverhead announced their third annual Safe Halloween!

LONG ISLAND FALL RALLY This year our Fall Rally will be held on Sunday October 21st at LIU Post from 10:30 to 4:15! The admissions fee is $10 and lunch will be included. A sign-up sheet has been published, so be sure to sign up ASAP. We will have three workshop sessions, a Keynote speaker, and a K-fair all for your entertainment and learning experience!

WORDS FROM A MEMBER "It was so awesome. It was like a mini LTC!"

-Bhuvaneshar Ramkhelawan, Southampton President, Senior

WHAT IS FALL RALLY? Each year, certain divisions come together to plan and host an event for the Key Clubbers in their areas-- for us Long Island comes together and meets at LIU Post for a day. Each of the rallies have workshops to teach you-- our members-everything you need to know about Key Club and more. There is so much for you to learn about like how to tie a tie or the college application from a college representative. Get ready to meet Key Clubbers from all across your home island!

UPCOMING EVENT: RVD Riverhead High School will be hosting their third annual Safe Halloween on October 31st. In years past they've had over 250 elementary students attend the event to trick-or-treat, play carnival games, and go through a "not-so-spooky" walk! Hopefully this year they will have so many pumpkins they cannot give them all out and the amazing tradition will continue!

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

Tori Cummins, WHB President/ Division Secretary, Senior

On Saturday September 15, 2018, Tori Cummins, the President of Westhampton Beach’s Key Club organized and held the first annual Westhampton Beach Miles for Myeloma at her high school. This event was a 5k walk/run around the track to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. This foundation helped her dad fight Multiple Myeloma for 6 years after being diagnosed. The Miles for Myeloma event had lots of festivities. There was complementary food and drinks, a DJ, T-shirts being sold, a silent auction, and an award ceremony before and after the race. There was over 150 participants and Tori was able to raise $16,544 and counting from registration, t-shirts, donations and sponsors. In Tori’s perspective, she thought that this event had a huge impact on cancer research as well as on the community. This was the first Multiple Myeloma event in the Westhampton Beach area, so it was the first time the people could come together in Westhampton to support this great cause. Also, it gave families of Multiple Myeloma patients in the area a place to come together and meet other families to support each other through the hard times. For Tori, it was a very emotional day. Seeing all of her friends, family and other community members come together to support her with this event was incredible. “It was the best day of my life” says Tori. Being able to raise this much for the cancer her dad had was so close to her heart and really was a life changing experience. She would like to thank everyone that supported her with the first WHB Miles for Myeloma, she said she couldn’t have done it without them. This event was a huge success, and Tori can’t wait for the 2nd annual WHB Miles for Myeloma next year!!

NEWS FROM THE NORTH DISTRICT UPDATES

DISTRICT NEWS From September 14th to 16th I went to my second board meeting and we went over A LOT of things: 1. This year the District’s fundraising goal is $155,000 and our service hour goal is 130,000; our job is to help to contribute to achieving those numbers, so let's do all we can this year!

DISTRICT NEWS 2. Our Governor Erica Swirsky has chosen to support Comfort Cases as the Governor’s Project. This organization puts together small backpacks or duffel bags for youth entering the foster care system. It has impacted over 30,000 children and we can help change more lives!

DISTRICT NEWS 3. Our District Project is One Tree Planted! This nonprofit organization plants a tree for every dollar donated to help combat deforestation across the world. In North America they plant trees in Florida and California; they plant trees in Vietnam, India, Haiti, Brazil, and many many more places across the world too!

DISTRICT NEWS 4. Our Governor Erica Swirsky published her first NEW YORK MINUTE. She gives us updates in a video format, so it's much easier to digest. Go subscribe to the NYDKC YouTube Channel and stay updated at all times!

DISTRICT NEWS 5. Every year New York District Key Club promises to raise money for certain charities and this time I will be highlighting the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center. Kiwanis sponsored the construction of the KPTC in Stony Brook hospital and we raise money to help keep it going, so let'd get started! So far we've raised $680, but our goal is $2,250.

LTC 2019 LTC in 2019 will run from March 29th to March 31st and I cannot wait to see you all there. The theme will be ALOHA TO SERVICE, so be sure to grab your floral shirts and fanny packs. Let's go cocoNUTS at the Desmond!

THE INDY SCOOP INTERNATIONAL UPDATES

INTRODUCING YOUR NEW I-BOARD Every year at ICON Key Clubbers from around the world elect our international board and this year was no exception. We voted on International President, International Vice President, and 11 International Trustees and let's get excited because one of our own New Yorkers was elected International Trustee: Braeden Dorchester!!

OUR INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE Alice Geng of the Minnesota-Dakotas District is our International Trustee. Like I do, she will act as a liaison except, instead of being a liaison for clubs, she will be a liaison for districts. Those districts (which are called sistricts or sister districts) are New York, Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee, and Utah-Idaho. Alice also put out a video update on her YouTube Channel, so check it out to get the lastest news!

SISTRICT SPIRIT As you know our sistricts are Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee (LaMissTenn) and UtahIdaho. Together we are called NewLaMissHo and together we also have MERCH!! You can buy this separately or as a club-- which would lower the shipping cost. More information will be available in the Weekly Stingray Updates.Â

SISTRICT MERCHANDISE

MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE SURVEY Key Clubbers, alumni, and advisors, KCI wants to hear our voices. Through the new Key Club Experience Survey, we’ll work together to identify and select focuses for the year. It takes only four minutes to complete and it could change your whole Club experience, so please do not hesitate to let International know how you feel whether it's content or dissatisfied! Use goo.gl/xgjMdF to fill it out!
