DONCASTER BELLES

Sophie Scargill thought the Belles got just what they deserved as they beat Solihull Moors 5-0 in the FAWNL Division One Midlands. The Belles made it two wins from two games at home in 2020 in the league, going 10 points clear of the bottom two after the victory at Oxford Street, and Scargill believes the hard work being put in at training has provided them with the results.

“I thought we were brilliant to be honest, we really ground out a result, we were disciplined all over the pitch, I didn’t think it was as pretty as the previous week, we didn’t get the ball down and play as much but the three points are the most important thing,” she said. “It’s good to get another clean sheet on the board as well, and I think that’s a testament to the hard work the management have done with us since they’ve come in, they’re told us what they wanted from us, we’ve done it and we’ve got the reward from that. “I was happy to get an assist myself too, me and Kirsty had to be disciplined in the middle and it was quite a physical battle at times, so to get the opportunity to create some chances was good and luckily one came off.” Sunday’s trip to Sporting Khalsa was postponed due to safety

reasons, with the Football Association advising clubs not to travel as Storm Ciara ravaged the country, meaning the players will have had a fortnight before this weekend’s trip to Leafield. And for manager Andy Butler the competition for a place in his side is strong as they look to build on the past two wins. “They all worked their socks off against Solihull Moors and I really cannot fault anyone, the subs have come on once again and done well, they’re showing that it’s a team game

and they’re all ready to make an impact when they come on,” he said. “It makes my life hard when I’m trying to pick the team and they come on and put in performances like that too, but that’s the way I want it to be, I want there to be good competition for places. “They all have to make sure they carry on performing well in training too, we may have won 5-0 but if they don’t produce in the week, they know there’s someone else who could come in, everyone is eager to play which is great to see.”
