George Bass and Mathew Flinders were the first Europeans to ‘discover’ Twofold Bay in 1798, but the region had been inhabited by members of the Yuin nation for thousands of years, attracted by the rich food resources offered by the sea and surrounding forests. Local Aboriginal people had a strong spiritual connection with killer whales, and this connection extended to include the harvesting of small whales and fish that the killer whales herded into the shallows. A permanent shore-based whaling station was first established by the Imlay Brothers in the 1830s, and whaling continued for another
2
century. You can experience some of the town’s history at the Eden Killer Whale Museum, and see the skeleton of “Old Tom”, Eden’s famous killer whale. For a real taste of life in the whaling industry you can also visit Davidson’s Whaling Station, the longest operating shorebased whaling station in Australia, located on Kiah Inlet at Twofold Bay. Eden is now famous as a destination for whale-watching, with migrations occurring in late autumn and spring. Historic Boydtown, just a short drive south on the Princes Highway, was built by Ben Boyd in 1843 on the shores of Twofold Bay.- the Seahorse Inn here has been beautifully restored.

Blue Whales on the Brink at the Eden Killer Whale Museum Blue Whales are the largest animals on our planet. They can weigh about the same as 40 elephants and are as long as around three school buses. Their heart alone is around the size of a small car. Due to their low numbers and the size of the ocean, mysteries remain of the nature of this swift and powerful creature. Blue Whales are considered Endangered, meaning there is a very high risk of their extinction in the wild. Prior to the invention of the exploding harpoon gun and steamdriven vessels, Blue Whale numbers in Antarctica were over 230,000. Their swiftness and power were too great for the oared whaleboats. Technological
changes in whaling tools and vessels soon changed this, and recent surveys estimate the population now around only 2,000 in Antarctica. Blue Whales on the Brink explores the technological advances in whaling that resulted in the dramatic decline of the Blue’s populations around the world, and the international recognition in 1966 of the need of conservation of whale species. Blue Whales featured in Eden’s history in 1908 when a mother and calf were cornered and herded by Killer Whales into the Bay and finally harpooned by Archer James Davidson near Davidson Whaling Station. The mother was the largest whale to be harpooned
by hand at the time, measuring 97 feet long (29.5 metres). This made the Guinness Book of World Records in 1984. A detailed account of the hunt featured in a Sydney newspaper and is both an intriguing and disturbing account to read. Though an uncommon sight, Blue Whales have been seen returning to the Bay on occasion. Blue Whales on the Brink features stunning documentary footage of Blue Whale populations off the South and West Australian coasts. Explore what we do and don’t know about Blue Whales, reflect on historical and contemporary human activity affecting populations and the role we can play in the conservation of these majestic creatures. The exhibition runs from 1st May to 10 October 2010. Left: Archer James Davidson standing on top of 97ft Blue Whale harpooned in 1908. Men of Timber Exhibition explores Eden's timber history The Men of Timber exhibition explores the dangerous aspects of occupations associated with the timber industry as well as the historical aspects of living and working conditions. The exhibition also highlights the commitment of the National Timber Workers’ Memorial committee to bring to Eden a place of national commemoration for fallen Australian timber workers. The timber industry in Australia extends as far back as to the settlement of the colony in 1788. Timber was cleared from the land to fulfil the need to build shelter and furniture, provide fuel for cooking and for transport requirements such as building ships and carts. Red cedar was the first export of the colony of New South Wales and cedar
getters existed until the end of the industry in 1910. One of the earliest known exports of timber from Eden occurred in 1843 when the ship St Heliers left the wharf with a load of wattle bark and other goods bound for London. The first rail service in NSW opened on 26 September 1855. With the increasing use of railways across the country the demand for railway sleepers saw the emergence of a steady sleeper cutter industry. By 1907 there were 50 sleeper cutters producing sleepers made of Woollybutt, Blackbutt and Grey box.
The last sleeper shipment from Eden was the Lantao which departed on 28 October 1961 bound for Pakistan. Eden was the first Australian town to begin exporting woodchips. This began in 1968 when the state government entered into a 20 year agreement with Harris Daishowa (Aust) Pty Ltd for the sale of woodchips from the Crown’s forests. By 1969 the chipping plant built on the shore across the bay from the town of Eden was operational. The first woodchip shipment took place in January 1971. Men of Timber exhibition runs from 1st May to 10 October 2010.

Fishing Report & Tide Chart - August Cold SW winds are the norm this month with the warmer clothing needed, but for anglers fishing the beaches or rocks some great angling can still be expected. Beaches: Can be an excellent month to fish from the sand with salmon, tailor, bream and gummy sharks all possible. Using a paternoster rig with a combined bait/surf popper presentation is ideal, pilchards or bluebait the best baits to use especially for salmon and tailor. Look for a beach that has a deeper gutter and fish the rising tide when possible. Early mornings will be best with the southern end of beaches usually providing shelter from the cool winds. Better beaches to try are Haycock, Tura, Gillard’s, Tilba, Brou and Congo. If after bream the rockier corners are ideal places to wet a line. Rocks: With the very cold water we experience this month, surface pelagics like salmon and tailor will make up most anglers bags. Using both ganged pilchards and metal lures should see some great action on these speedsters. Almost any headland will produce fish at times; look for one that has plenty of white water but please take care on the rocks and make sure your safety is the first priority. Expect a few drummer, bream, trevally and blackfish in the wash zones to, with cunjevoi, fresh prawns, cabbage weed and bread all working at times. Better headlands to try are Tura Head, Tathra, Nelsons, Blue pool, Mystery Bay and the rocks at the golf course at Narooma. Estuaries: Probably the quietest month of the year to fish the estuaries but mainstay species like tailor, trevally, blackfish and bream will be around. Use fresh bait for best results with prawns, worms and bass
yabbies the best. Soft plastics will also work for bream and trevally; concentrate your efforts in the lower sections of the estuary or the channels. Anglers fishing blades and vibes will catch fish also, fish these lures with little hops around weed edges or on schooling fish like bream and estuary perch. Places like Pambula, Merimbula, Bega River and Narooma would be the pick to fish during this colder period. Offshore: Water temperature will be hovering around 13-14 degrees, very cold so the pelagic action will be very quiet apart from salmon around the headlands and close in bommies. Eden’s Twofold bay is certainly worth a look if targeting salmon. Try the southern side of the bay near the entrance to the Kiah River. On the reefs snapper, morwong, trevally and leatherjackets are all possible, but a lot depends on the water temperature. A few to try are Horseshoe, Long, Horseshoe, Potato Point and Moruya reefs. If fishing further offshore some good Southern Bluefin tuna action will be happening. It's been a great season so far and I can't see why this will change. These fish will be from the Shelf to 40 mile offshore so care should be taken if new to the sport! Stuart Hindson is the owner of Aussie Fish Estuary Adventures, and provides guided fishing charters from Wonboyn to Batemans Bay and all estuaries in between. With over 20 years experience in the industry, Stuart really knows his fishing. Check out his website at www.ausfishing.com.au for more information, or call Stuart on 0400 062 504 or 02 6495 9902 to book a fishing experience you won’t forget.

Pambula The Pambula River floodplain was for thousands of years a source of food and materials for the Thaua people of the Yuin nation. Europeans first explored the region during George Bass's southern voyage of 1797. Seeking shelter from a gale, Bass travelled up the Pambula River, noting its beauty in his diary. A marker has been erected by the National Parks and Wildlife Service on this historic site. European settlement began in the 1830s, with the original township built on the southern banks of the Pambula River. Severe flooding in the 1860s meant the town had to be re-located to its present site on higher ground. Timber, maize, wattlebark, dairying and oyster farming formed the basis of the local economy in the late nineteenth century. However in 1888, gold was discovered on the banks of the Yowaka River, and by 1891 there were eleven mining
www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au companies in operation at the Mount Gahan site. Pambula’s historic past is very much in evidence today, with beautifully restored and maintained historic buildings and farmhouses. This thriving village has an eclectic mix of businesses, with art galleries, cafes, restaurants, gift shops, and pubs. At the southern end of the town is Panboola, a community-managed recreational area that is restoring parts of the floodplain and former racecourse. This fantastic community project has seen hundreds of trees, shrubs and grasses planted, with the aim of recreating much of the wetland's original habitat. There's been plenty of construction too, with interpretive signs, walking and cycling tracks, picnic areas and bird hides. Just 5 minutes east of the village is Pambula Beach, set between the ocean, the mouth of Pambula River
and Ben Boyd National Park. There is an excellent swimming beach patrolled by the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club, a dog friendly beach at Middle Beach and the beautiful Pambula Rivermouth. There are also walking tracks and viewing platforms. Pambula Lake is just south where there’s a boat ramp and oyster growers selling fresh Pambula Lake oysters.

Merimbula
www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au With its beautiful location on the shores of Merimbula Lake, there are plenty of places to enjoy the view; looking across the bay from the restored Merimbula Wharf, enjoying the sunrise or sunset from the Boardwalk around the southern section of the Lake, or strolling around Fishpen watching the pelicans. There are a range of activities and attractions in Merimbula, including deep-sea fishing, whale-watching, snorkelling, surfing, cycling, scenic flights, ten-pin bowling, family fun parks or experiencing native animals or marine creatures up close. Merimbula is a great place to go shopping, with specialty shops and nationally-known outlets tucked away in arcades and courtyards. There
Merimbula is the tourist hub of the Bega Valley with its lakeside restaurants and cafes, and a vast array of attractions and accommodation choices. Merimbula has a long history of human occupation, with Aboriginal people making the most of the available food resources, leaving behind middens that are still visible today. In more recent times, Merimbula was one of several coastal trading ports connecting the region to the outside world, as the area was relatively isolated with a lack of rail or road access. The Old School Museum on Main St has information and displays about the town’s early history.
are also plenty of cafes to provide a caffeine boost if the energy levels start to fall. Foodies are spoilt for choice, with a wide range of restaurants, clubs and the Hotel offering a host of different dining experiences, but with fresh local seafood a common theme. For a musical night out, there are lots of venues in Merimbula and the surrounding areas that offer live music. Tura Beach is only a short drive north, with its own shopping centre, country club and beautiful beach.

Hot August Night raises funds for Pambula pool In the continuing quest to raise funds for the Pambula Aquatic Centre, Bega Cheese and the Rotary Club of Pambula have organised another performance in the Bega Cheese Concert Series. Held at Club Sapphire, Merimbula, 'Hot August Night - The Music Of Neil Diamond' starring Patrick MacMahon and the Stumblin’ Wilbury’s Band is on August 14th. Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased by ringing the Club on 6495 1306. Neil Diamond’s double live album “Hot August Night” is one of those all-time classic albums. Released in 1972, it spent an incredible 29 weeks at number one on the Australian album charts, then re-entered the Aussie top ten in 1982. Songs like Solitary Man; Cherry Cherry; Sweet Caroline; Porcupine Pie; Red Red Wine; Song Sung Blue; Cracklin’ Rosie; form part of the soundtrack of our lives. And thanks to Pambula Rotary Club and with the support of Bega Cheese, those classic songs and that classic Neil Diamond sound and style will be brought to life by one of the great Australian performers, Patrick MacMahon.

If Patrick’s name is not a household name in this country, it’s only because he spends much of his working life overseas and on the corporate circuit here in Oz. Patrick’s career began when he won a TV talent quest in his home state of WA at the age of 16, and was hosting his own music show by 17. At 21, Patrick was invited to the USA by the Kenny Rogers organisation to open for Kenny on a national tour. Since then, Patrick has worked at the top level with people like Dionne Warwick, Sir Cliff Richard, Charlie Pride and Joan Rivers. Patrick is now spending more time back in his beloved Australia, and has developed a huge reputation on the
corporate circuit as a truly dynamic entertainer. Local bloke Frankie J Holden doesn’t hesitate in his praise of Patrick MacMahon. “I’ve worked with Patrick or seen him work many times over the last decade and he is simply an outstanding entertainer, really world class, either with his own songs or the classics of Neil Diamond and many others. His repertoire includes Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, even Peter Garrett!“ said Frankie J. So on August 14th you’ll get the chance to see a great entertainer perform some of the classic rock songs of all time in what is sure to be a “HOT AUGUST NIGHT”. www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au

Delight in orchids at the Great Winter Orchid Show Delve into the amazing world of orchids at the Great Winter Orchid Show, held annually by the Sapphire Coast Orchid Club at Twyford Hall, Merimbula. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of orchids on display. The popular Cymbidium orchids are at their peak for this show and fill the Hall with their exquisite blooms. World premiere of musical Prix D’Amour Rose Porteous-Hancock will return to the limelight as the central character in a new musical Prix D’Amour when Spectrum Theatre Group presents the world premiere this August. Written and composed by Paul Dion of Merimbula, Prix D’Amour (The Price of Love) is based on the book ‘Rose’ by Robert Wainwright and tells the colourful story of Australian mining magnate, Lang Hancock, the woman he married, Rose Lacson of the Philippines and the emotional and financial roller coaster ride they took together. Sitting in her uncle Taboy’s bar in Manila, Rose tells her friend that she is going to catch a “big fish” in Australia. Even Rose could not have imagined how big that fish would be. The story tells of Rose’s escape from the poverty of Manila, her arrival in Perth, Western Australia on a three month visitor’s visa and how she lands herself a job as a housekeeper for one of Australia’s wealthiest men, newly widowed and ageing mining magnate, Lang Hancock. Their subsequent marriage creates friction and his lavish spending on her threatens the business. Rose’s meteoric rise from poverty to money, property and a colourful lifestyle eventually lands everyone in court. Director/choreographer, Elaine Waddell, said: “This is a big, challenging show with a lot of musical numbers. I’m thrilled that Spectrum will be performing the world premiere of this show. It is hugely rewarding to be interpreting a new work for the very first time.” Prix D’Amour will be performed at Twyford Hall, Merimbula, July 30 to August 14. Seating on Friday and Saturday nights will be cabaret style at tables, (8pm show, tickets $30) while Wednesday evening (8pm) and Sunday matinee performances (2pm) will have traditional concert seating (tickets $25). Bookings open to the general public at Twyford Hall on July 14. Bookings phone line 6495 2046.
Priority tickets can be obtained earlier by becoming a Friend of Spectrum simply fill in the email on the Spectrum website www.spectrumtheatregroup.org.au.

In the language of local Aboriginal people, members of the Yuin nation, Bega is said to mean “large camping ground”; it would have been a place of great abundance, with an underground lake feeding a series of wetlands, providing plenty of tucker. The dairy industry has always played a major part in the Bega economy, and this is still the case today, with the Bega Cheese Co-op one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of dairy products, exporting some $50m of product every year. Tathra With beautiful beaches, estuaries and National Parks all close by, Tathra is an ideal holiday destination for both families and couples. Tathra’s famous historic Wharf, classified by the National Trust as the only remaining steamer wharf on the Australian coastline, is a popular spot for fishing. The Wharf also has tourist information on Tathra and surrounding areas. Every January, the Tathra Wharf to Waves Beach Swim is held to raise funds for various community groups. Swimming at Tathra’s patrolled beach (summer only) may provide the added bonus of a dolphin sighting, or even a glimpse of a passing whale. Bushwalking, kayaking, mountainbiking, snorkelling and surfing are all popular around Tathra. There are lots of things for the kids to
www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au do, with a fantastic skatebowl suitable for skateboards, bikes and scooters, and a great playground, both located near the Tathra Surf Lifesaving Club. An easy 3km walking & cycling track runs from Tathra to the mouth of the Bega River at Mogareeka, with other walks around town as well. Direct access to the ocean is available at Kianinny Bay (also good for swimming), and the boat ramp at Mogareeka provides an easy launch into the Bega River estuary. If you’re keen to play some golf or tennis, try the Tathra Beach Country Club. Tathra also has plenty of great places to eat, ranging from gourmet delis to cafes and restaurants. Tathra is a great base from which you can explore the Mimosa Rocks

Snow to Sea at Tathra Beach House A shared name isn’t the only thing that Tathra Beach House has in common with the famous Tathra Beach located just across the road - they’ve both won plenty of awards. In 2007, Tathra Beach won the NSW Clean Beach Challenge, conducted by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council, as well as receiving a ‘highly commended’ for being the friendliest beach. In 2009, Tathra Beach was selected as a finalist in the national Keep Australia Beautiful, Australian Clean Beaches Awards. The Tathra Beach House complex has received its share of accolades too. The original complex of six town housestyle apartments was extended a few years ago with the addition of twenty apartments, villas and units. At the 2007 South Coast Tourism Awards, Tathra Beach House won an Award of Distinction in the Cabins, Cottages & Units (self contained) category. The complex also won the 2003 Housing Industry Association “Apartment Project of the Year” regional award.
With 7 styles of 4 1/2 star selfcontained apartments, Tathra Beach House can accommodate everyone. Options include: • Motel units are ideal for overnight or short stay for 1 or 2 persons. • Loft units accommodate from 3, 4, to 6 persons. • Town House accommodation provide for 4 adults and 2 children. • Villa Apartments accommodate 6 to 7 persons. • Tree Top accommodation provides for 4 to 6 persons. • Ocean View Spa apartments accommodate up to 4 persons. • Conference facilities for up to 25 persons.
The units are set on a spectacular site beautifully landscaped with ponds, waterfalls, boardwalks, stone retaining walls and native gardens. There are two swimming pools, two spa pools, and a very popular heated hydrotherapy swim spa. The large Town House units offer private courtyards with BBQ’s and interconnected lock up garages, and are ideal for families. The new apartments have spectacular ocean views and deck spas, whilst other units have views over the waterfalls and gardens, ponds and pools. All units have TV with 8 channels of Austar and a DVD, and a separate phone point for a computer connection. During the cooler months there is plenty to do at Tathra, like exploring the National Parks and the hinterland around Bega and Candelo, visiting the coastal wineries, beach walks on the clear crisp mornings, mountain bike riding on the Tathra Forest trails, and of course the fishing is still great from Tathra Wharf. Tathra is also the closest beach to the snow fields, so it’s one of the few places where it's possible to surf in the morning and ski a few hours later! In the off-peak season, Tathra Beach House offers a weekend special where guests can check in on Friday afternoon, stay all day Saturday and on Sunday, enjoy a late check out, staying as late as they like at no extra charge. With Tathra Beach House's off-peak prices, a family weekend away can cost under $300!

Cobargo
www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au
Cobargo is located half an hour north of Bega, in the midst of lush, green pastures rolling away to forested mountains. The village was established with a Post Office, general store, school, hotel, church and blacksmith during the 1870s around the butter and cheesemaking industries. In the 1860s, Cobargo was known as Wattletown, as bark stripped from local wattle trees was shipped to Sydney and Melbourne to be used in the tanning industry. This industry only ceased in 1964. Cobargo was also known as The Junction because of the junction of the Narira and Bredbatoura Creeks in the middle of the town. A Butter Factory and Co-op were established in 1901 and continued production, except for a short break due to fire, until 1980, when it closed because of changes in bulk milk production.
The town was large enough from the 1890s onwards to support a newspaper, ‘The Cobargo Watch’. Today, Cobargo is a wonderful example of a working village of local artisans, with many of buildings over 100 years old, reflecting the charm of the art & craft housed within them. The two storey building that is home to “Bangles Gallery” is a fine example of century-old architecture, and features lovely wrought iron lace work around the verandahs.. Take a stroll around the town and experience the delightful ambience of yesteryear. Take your pick from an array of art and craft, rare gems and jewelry, pottery, woodwork & leatherwork, or hunt among the collectables, curios and old wares on offer. Recharge your batteries at Valley Edge Cafe with great coffee and a fresh, delectable menu. Take a few minutes to enjoy the beautiful photography that adorns the walls - there are some

Monthly Garden Advice Food For Thought With the rising cost of fruit and vegetables thought should be given to planting trees and shrubs that will provide food for the table and some added visual pleasure to the garden. Wherever you live consideration should be given to planting edible plants in the garden. Consider the enormous range of plants that are sold in nurseries from common vegetables, berries and fruits through to unusual Australian native fruits. Even the smallest garden can afford to have a few edible plants. Fruit trees
can be planted as ornamentals as well as supplying the gardener with a delicious yield. Many fruit trees are deciduous providing shade in summer and sun in winter with flowers in the spring. Small berry shrubs can be planted in sunny spots instead of ornamental shrubs and many of the fruiting vines can be grown against fences, trellises or walls. To successfully grow vegetables, herbs or other edible plants the three essentials are good soil, sun and good drainage. This
applies whether you are setting up a vegetable garden, incorporating edible plants into a flower garden, or finding a correct place for a fruit tree. Fruit and vegetables that have to struggle against the elements are tough and not as sweet and tasty as ones that have optimum growing conditions. Vegetables sheltered from winds will increase their yield by up to 50 per cent. Talk to your local nursery person if you are a newcomer to growing edible plants and they will give you some handy hints for successful gardening. There has been a great improvement in the last couple of years with new dwarf growing vegetables that are suitable for pot culture. Any small sunny spot in the garden or on a veranda can accommodate a pot that can grow a tomato, some mixed salad vegetables or a dwarf fruit tree or shrub. Call into your local nursery to discover these new treasures. Keith Mundy The Spires Nursery Tilba Tilba www.thespiresnursery.com.au

Gulaga became the site of much activity when gold was discovered in the 1860s. Many of Tilba’ s buildings were constructed in the late 1880s when the gold boom was at its peak. By the time mining ceased, the dairy industry was firmly established as the main source of income for the area. The village of Tilba Tilba, just a few kilometres south of Central Tilba, is also protected by a National Heritage listing. Tilba Tilba is home to the magnificent Foxglove Spires, featuring one of Australia’s finest open gardens covering 3.5 acres. There is also a cafe, giftware, antiques and a nursery on site. Tilba Tilba also has a general store, and is the base for the walk up Gulaga. The entire village of Central Tilba was classified by he National Trust in 1974 in recognition of its historical significance.

Central Tilba maintains its village atmosphere, and has become a centre for craftspeople and artisans, as well as ‘old-fashioned’ stores like the general store, lolly shop and toy shop. Leatherwork, art studios, woodwork, jewellery, unusual clothing, cafes, antiques, giftware, as well as a bakery, a pub and famous cheese factory are all located on Central Tilba’s main street. The Tilba Festival is held every Easter.

HEMP CLOTHES to make a skinny bloke handsome, HIP CLOTHES to make a fat lady sing.... ENLIGHTENING BOOKS and CARDS that are awesome, HANDCRAFTED JEWELLERY and that SPECIAL THING! Gulaga Gallery and Bookstore is named after beautiful Gulaga Mountain which towers up behind Tilba. It was built at the end of the 19th Century from local eucalyptus timbers, and since 1991, this varied and enchanting shop has been owned by Shanti and Sol Ramana-Clarke. Sol has developed a unique style of jewellery using sterling silver and gold-filled wire to mount a huge variety of semi-precious stones. He might suggest you “pick a stone that jumps out at you” and watch him mount it into a pendant, ring ...or whatever... Sol also produced the widely acclaimed documentary film “The Hemp Revolution”, so naturally you’ll find a full range of environmentally friendly hemp clothes, hemp seed oil and cosmetics. Shanti’s passion for colour and style is reflected in the varied range of women's clothing. You'll also find lots of gorgeous winter woollies for both sexes. Shanti and Sol’s love of universal spirituality is expressed in their range of interesting and insightful books & DVD’s, cards, and inspirational music. You may also be treated to the uplifting sound of Shanti and Sol’s own musical CD “Open”. Most of all, just enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere! Batemans Bay

Like many coastal towns, Batemans Bay, settled by Europeans in the 1820s, relied on timber, ship building, dairying and fishing as its main source of income in the previous century. The town is accessed from the north
by its famous lifting span bridge, the oldest of its type in Australia. Now a thriving regional centre and major tourist destination, people come to Batemans Bay from all over Australia for its natural beauty. Situated on the banks of the magnificent Clyde River, water is deeply ingrained in the culture of ‘the Bay’. Swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking, surfing and diving are all within easy reach of town. The Batemans Marine Park ensures that the coastal environment is protected for future generations. Impact One
John Paul Young was the most popular and successful Australian male solo singer of the late Seventies. He is also without question one of the finest male pop-rock vocalists this country has ever produced. He is gifted with a dynamic, powerful, soulful and gritty tenor voice, reminiscent of the great British R&B singer Chris Farlowe. The peak period of his pop career (1975-79) included his stint in the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, and his 1975 hit records -- the singles “Yesterday’s Hero” and “Love Is In The Air”, a true international hit, reaching number 5 in Britain, Number 7 in America and topping the charts across Europe.
