The 1967 Goose $1 was designed by Andor Mészáros – the man who came so close to having his designs on Australia’s decimal coinage. Based on the motifs of his entries for the 2c and 20c, Mészáros’ Goose $1 design won a competition held in response to the controversial absence of a $1 coin in Australia’s then new decimal currency.

Struck exactly 100 years ago, the 1923 Halfpenny is a coin shrouded in mystery. Given that records show that 1,113,600 halfpennies were

struck in 1923, the obvious question is why is this date so scarce? The rarity is likely due to problems the Melbourne Mint had with its 1923 dies. The dies used by the mint exhibited faults, and, failing early in the piece, were used to strike only a limited number of coins in fulfilment of Commonwealth orders.

Although the actual mintage of the 1923 Halfpenny will never be known, most authorities estimate that no more than 15,000 were struck. Whatever the actual figure, it can be said with confidence that only a tiny percentage of the coins delivered to Treasury would have carried the date 1923.

The perfect time to secure a 1923 Halfpenny, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of this great Australian rarity, the few available examples will be snapped up at speed.

With the change to the new reverse occurring late in 1939, the first Bounding Roo Halfpenny is the scarcest George VI halfpenny. With the mintage a mere 782,400, it is a key to the entire 1910-64 series. Desirable in any grade, this crucial date is rarely seen in the superb state of preservation offered here. Struck in the year that WWII began, the second shilling of the reign of King George VI had a tiny mintage of just 1.52 million: very scarce in Choice Uncirculated.

Also defined by an extremely low mintage, with a mere 1.58m coins struck, the WWII era George VI 1943 Shilling is similarly scarce in Choice Uncirculated quality.

A highly symbolic date in the 1910-63 Shilling Series, the George VI 1946 Shilling was the first struck in the postwar period. Crucial acquisition in Choice Unc!

Every Perth Mint Half Sovereign from 1900 to 1918!

From the unique Queen Victoria 1900P to the excessively rare George V 1918P, and every coin in between, this breathtaking collection offers you the opportunity to secure every Gold Half Sovereign date struck at the Perth Mint!

All-encompassing, this inspiring presentation comprises seven 22-carat gold half sovereigns. While headlined by the rare 1918P Half – Australia’s last half sovereign date, known by no more than 200 examples – this prestigious collection is packed with highlights.

A key coin in any grade, the set features the ONLY Queen Victoria Half Sovereign date – the 1900P. Missing from many collections, the mintage was a low 119,376. Royal Mint branches were reluctant to strike the somewhat tricky half sovereigns, and the Perth Mint was no exception. Thus, as they started under Queen Victoria, so would they continue – the Mint’s half sovereign mintages are astonishingly small!

Regarding Edward VII half sovereigns, the 1904P had a mintage of 60,030, with the mintages of the 1908P and 1909P being 24,668 and 44,022 respectively!

Apart from the 1918P, the Mint only issued George V half sovereigns in 1911 (mintage 130,373) and 1915 (mintage 138,219). Overall, the average annual mintage of Perth Mint half sovereigns was an astonishing 73,841!

With the mintages so low, and so many coins melted for the gold, it’s no surprise that the Perth Mint Half Sovereign Series is rarely offered as a complete collection. With only one set available – graded from Fine to about Uncirculated – you must act now.

Grading Fine to aUnc, the set includes a Perth Mint Half Sovereign from Queen Victoria, Edward VII & George V –dates of our choice. Very scarce today, with the tiny mintages outlined above, all three coins carry the St George reverse, along with the Mint’s P mintmark.

The first 10/- Star Replacement Note of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, this crucial predecimal banknote is very rare, irrespective of the condition. When found in strictly Uncirculated quality, as here it is a rarity of the highest order. Rarely offered by Downies in this supreme state of preservation, immediate action is a must.

With £5 Star Notes only introduced in 1962, this is the ONLY Australian £5 Star Note issue!
