about how much we have, yet we long for something different. We love feeling safe yet yearn for new challenges. We raise our living standards, still we long for the fundamental, the basic. We want to live in the city but every now and then, nature calls us back. We want to be spontaneous; to be able to pack only the most essential, put on our backpacks - and just leave. We want to improvise and create, seize the day, adjust to the wind and weather, discover new paths in the forrest, new streets in the city. We are not only professional or private - we are both, all of the time. We are the generation of diverse, curious and exploring ’bon vivants’. To us, luxury is never about the surface. It’s about encounters, contrasts, experiences and inspiration. It’s having the opportunity to gather around the campfire instead of the TV, to hear new stories, get new impressions, or for just one moment find ourselves out of reach, offline, offgrid. Luxury to us is doing something good for other people, and to feel good about ourselves, from the inside. So, put on your backpack and a pair of shoes that works for both an expedition into the unknown and for the party tonight. Let us show you where the adventure begins – right here in the heart of the city.

Camp, Eat, Sleep, Repeat.

Exploring the great indoors, what better place to start than with Campfire, Downtown Camper’s restaurant? A place where locals and travellers come together to share experiences, stories and good food. This well-visited hotspot is a local social hub to be reckoned with, serving up an eclectic abundance of comfort food from every corner of the world, cooked and enjoyed by the spitting flames of the charcoal grill. From early morning to late at night - Campfire is the place to be. “Our vision is to create an open, cosy and warm meeting place for both Stockholmers and hotel guests, bringing back an including, spontaneous and honest social code. Our grilled concept is a big flirt with the food truck trend, a conviction that good food is all about enhancing simple and natural flavours. Meals you can share with your friends and family, talk about, and simply enjoy together” says Claes Benediktsson, Food & Beverage Manager at Downtown Camper. The fire is essential at Campfire. Not only as an element in the cooking process but also in bringing that warm and cosy atmosphere. The same feeling you get when you are out camping; gathering around the fire, sharing stories, making memories with friends. At Campfire, we use the elemental force of fire and extract the flavours of the flames. The charcoal grill is not only a conceptual aspect here – it’s a healthier way to prepare food and additionally, preserves and enhances the natural taste.

A few years ago, Downtown Camper was approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel - one of the world’s toughest eco certificates - and working with the environment has always been imperative at Campfire: The chefs frequently review their assortment according to current reports on overfishing or reduced demand. Hence, all the fish is MSC labelled and suppliers are selected carefully depending on their sustainability policies. A general challenge in the hospitality industry is the amount of food that goes to waste. At Campfire, a couple of initiatives have been set in place to battle this problem: Food that is close to expiration gets another chance through the app Karma. In this app, locals can browse and “save” food through their smartphones, and pick up an affordable dinner on their way home from work. The food that isn’t “rehomed” or preserved is transformed into biofuel.

Campfire is in many ways the heart of the hotel. A place where the guests meet up for breakfast, where families and friends sit down at the end of the day to share good food, and the perfect setting for a night cap in the company of your Like the fire, diversity is pivotal in the creation of the exciting menu. Almost travelling companions. There’s activity here from early hours till late at night, it is every continent in the world is represented here, which ensures a solid influence a place that never sleeps. A buzzing, urban living room for a conscious, curious from different food cultures and taste palates. This allows the guests to explore crowd – no matter if you come from the other side of the street or the other and discover a world of food - not only local treats. side of the world.

Warrior Yoga AT DOWNTOWN CAMPER

Hey yogi, check this out. You can now enjoy energising morning yoga at Downtown Camper, whilst supporting an important cause. We will be hosting a series of fundraising yoga classes this autumn, as part of a new collab with Warrior Yoga. All money will go towards giving marginalised and trauma impacted communities the opportunity to experience the healing benefits of yoga and meditation. While yoga may be widely acknowledged and accessible for a small, privileged group, a large part of society never come in contact with this practice and its therapeutic tools. The Warrior Yoga Karma Project provides free or low-cost yoga for local organisations that support women experiencing abuse, addiction, trafficking, honour-related violence, eating disorders, as well as community support providers in and around Stockholm.

they tell us that this is the highlight of their week and that they feel much better after yoga. One of our students applied for a scholarship to become a yoga teacher, and was accepted. She wanted to do this for the simple reason that she would then be able to offer the same opportunities to other people who have lost hope, just like she had” says Cassie. “We are so happy to work with Downtown Camper. Through this partnership we will be able to host fundraising yoga on a weekly basis and engage both travellers from afar as well as the local community” she continues. When in Stockholm - A Survival Guide

Stockholm, like any other city, has its peculiarities. As a visitor it’s sometimes easy to feel a little out of place. How do you walk? How do you talk? How do you find your way? Here are seven tips that will help you get into the game quicker. So relax, soon you’ll blend in like a proper local. Hi or not to hi Stockholmers are social creatures, but when meeting new people they can be a bit reserved at first. The opposite to people from Gothenburg who happily greet everyone. But in Stockholm, a silent nod is sometimes about all you get. Don’t be discouraged, but play it cool. If you are to greet a local say “Hej” (Hello) or try one of the slang versions “Tjena” or “Tja” (similar to “Hey” or “Ciao”). That will surely break the ice and you’ll get a “Hej” and a smile in return. Do as the pigeons - take the subway Over 60 different species of birds can be found in central Stockholm. One of the more commonly occurring species is the pigeon that, like the Stockholmer, is a social and faithful bird that often mates for life. Some of the more developed specimens have taken their urban life to the next level. They take the subway! The so called Farsta Pigeons can be seen getting on the train at the station of Hökarängen and getting off at Farsta Centrum. The birds have learned that the subway will take them to new places where they can find food. So, if you are in a hurry to get from A to B, do like the Farsta Pigeons and take the subway. Just keep walking Stockholmers consider themselves early adopters. They quickly absorb the latest, greatest trends and pay no attention to the fact that they live in a cold distant corner of Europe. Instead they act like they live in Manhattan. But they never seem to be able to master all the codes of metropolitan living: Like passing a person on the street without bumping into them. In the big cities like New York and London, you rarely see any collisions between two pedestrians, but in Stockholm they can get caught in an awkward rocking back and forth situation, where as one person moves to the right, the other moves to the left and so on until one person is able to break the spell and continue walking. Our advice here? Be safe and just keep walking.

Up and down on a bike Every day around 100 000 of the city’s inhabitants get on their bikes to get to and from work, and in rush traffic they move fast. Fastest of them all are the bike couriers and “mamils” (middle-aged men in lycra), and in places like Götgatsbacken by Slussen you have to pay extra attention, they take no prisoners. Exploring the city by bike has its advantages, though. You get to experience the street life, architecture, enjoy amazing views and all the lush and green open areas with all your senses. So if you really want to blend in, do as the locals and take the bike. But wear a helmet, don’t forget this is Volvo land. Sorry, no cash In a couple of years when the hipster scene in Stockholm has evolved even further, cash will probably be cool again. The beard-cladded men that today can be seen brewing IPAs will probably start forging their very own silver coins by then. But until then, your credit card is still king. The easiest method of payment is called Swish, a Swedish payment app. However, you’re gonna need a bank account in Sweden to use it. Go for a swim - all year round No we’re not kidding, apparently the Swedes have rediscovered water. In the dark, boring months during the pandemic, someone thought it would be a great idea to start a new mega trend: Let’s go ice swimming they said. It’ll be fun they said. Oh well, maybe not for everyone but if you’re feeling gutsy, by all means, go for it. Rumour has it that swimming in cold waters can extend your life by years and years...

Conversation What topics of conversation are suitable to have with locals? The weather is always a safe bet. Life in the city follows the shifting seasons and there is always a phrase that will fit the current forecast. “How wonderful to see the sun!” and “We have longed for this rain” or “Been a long time since we saw this much snow”. If you are in the neighbourhood Södermalm ask “How is Bajen doing?”. That’s the nickname for the local football team Hammarby. In the same area you’ll be very likely to find a hipster who loves to talk about locally brewed beer, sneakers and beard grooming. But if you really want to get the conversation going with a local, ask them about Slussen, the hub that connects Södermalm and the Old City. It has been under construction for the last couple of years, and everyone, and we mean absolutely everyone, has an opinion about the project. Ironically, no one seems to know when it will be finished. If all else fails you can always talk about Zlatan.

A Rooftop Escape

The Nest is no ordinary retreat. It has been designed to boost you at a stand-alone level, with a very modern approach to wellbeing - no hushing, no pointing fingers, no fuss. This is a place where you can be yourself and kick back on your own terms while admiring the city from above. Aching limbs after a day of exploring the city? Take the lift to the top and discover The Nest: An urban retreat and a must-see for all guests. Leave behind the distractions of digital screens and busy traffic, embrace the vibe and discover a whole new take on wellness. Step into the sauna, shaped like a bird’s nest. Lather up in the experience showers, then head outside to the pool for a cold drink and some serious chill. Soon you will be ready for another day. Wellness on your terms The ”spa world” can feel a bit intimidating to many of us: “Do this, do that, and keep your voice down”. Basically, very far from how most of us want to retreat, right? The Nest offers a fresh approach to wellness. The guiding thought behind the concept is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle - one that you can keep up with. Today, we live in a digital world where we deal with loads of unnatural stress factors that affect our health and the way we socialise with others. People start to become aware of the importance of taking better care of themselves; to minimise screen time and focus on the meaningful relationships in life. The Nest offers an including, laid-back and utterly stand-alone experience - a new generation of wellness. Do it yourself There are no traditional spa treatments in The Nest. Instead, the offering has been shaped to encompass sustainability, education and long-term wellbeing. Hence,

the focus on DIY treatments, where the idea is to equip you with the know-how to best take care of yourself and your skin - a knowledge that can be applied and used long after you leave the hotel. It only gets better with time Another important thing to remember is that the tempo in The Nest will increase throughout the day. Visit early if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The music plays softer, and there are fewer people in the retreat. As the evening approaches, the music shifts to an ambient pool club vibe as the adjacent cocktail lounge opens. It’s the perfect time and place for an aperitif in the company of good friends. House Rules Welcome to The Nest - a place for new experiences and inspiration. Togetherness, wellbeing and fun is our focus here and hence, we encourage a mobile-free environment. You are not allowed to talk on your phone, but if you want to take a picture as a memory to keep from your visit, you are more than welcome. Discover flavours from around the world on our drinks menu, meet new and old friends, and enjoy great music to magical views from the top of Downtown Camper. Children are amazing, but up here, they are not our primary focus - we have other spaces in the hotel where kids can be kids. This is a place for adults to socialise and regain energy. Young adults from 16 and up are welcome to visit The Nest.

How to book As a hotel guest, you always have priority in The Nest. You also have a discount on the admission fee, but don’t forget to pre-book your visit. Towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided - just bring your swimsuit. Book your visit on: boka.se/thenestwellness
