Back to Basics

A new take on wellness in The Nest.

Summer in the City

The tips and tricks you need for an awesome stay.

The Seven Summits of Sthlm

Go on a local adventure with Renata Chlumska as your virtual guide.

Think about how much we have and yet how often we long for something different. Consider how much we love feeling safe yet yearn for new challenges. We raise our standard but long for the fundamental, the basic. We want to live in the city but be able to enjoy nature. To be able to pack only the most essential, put on our backpack and just leave. We want to improvise and create, seize the day, adjust to the wind and weather and discover new paths in the forest and new streets in the city. We are not only professional or private but everything at the same time, all the time. We are diverse, curious and exploring ’bon vivants’. To us luxury is never about the surface. It’s about connections and encounters, contrasts and inspiration. It’s having the opportunity to gather around the campfire instead of the TV to hear new stories, get new impressions – or suddenly find ourselves out of reach, not being online all the time. Luxury to us is doing something good for other people, and to feel good about ourselves, from the inside. So, put on your backpack and a pair of shoes that works for both an expedition into the unknown part of the big city and for the party tonight. Let us show you where the adventure begins – right here in the heart of the city.

Trust your Instincts, Follow your Gut Discover the flavours of comfort food from all over the world in Campfire Grill & Bar, the green, good and tasty from Downtown Camper Café, and magic brews and cocktails along with astonishing views in The Nest. From dawn to dusk - there’s a new taste experience to be had at Downtown Camper. Campfire Grill & Bar Downtown Camper’s main restaurant is where we gather around the open fire to share experiences, stories and to enjoy good food while meeting new and old friends. It’s the hotel’s heart and social hub, serving up an eclectic abundance of comfort food from all corners of the world.

At Campfire, we use the elemental force of fire and extract the flavours of the flames. Here, the fire is crackling together with the sound of good conversations, laughter and music.

Campfire is an open, cosy and warm meeting place for both Stockholmers and hotel guests, bringing The meal as a ”social ritual” is the real focal point back an including, spontaneous and honest social here, and in the kitchen we create exciting dishes code. Our grilled concept is a big flirt with the food close to our hearts. Inspired by childhood memories, truck trend, a conviction that good food is all about travelling, and the shifting seasons, we call our food enhancing simple and natural flavours. Meals you can concept ”comfort food” as it puts a smile on your face share with your friends and family, talk about, taste and spreads joy, love and comfort. from each other’s plates, and simply enjoy together.

Did you know we offset the emissions from all the meat we buy, through tree planting? This way, we do not only support small-scale farmers in Bolivia by enabling them to live off the trees, but the project also improves biodiversity in the Amazon region with super climate benefits as a result. In collaboration with ZeroMission and Plan Vivo.

Downtown Camper Café Food, friends and coffee. And a sunny terrace facing one of Stockholm’s most happening walking streets, Drottninggatan. The café is a perfect pitstop on your city expedition, offering everything from all-day breakfast and tasty lunch food to coffee, locally produced beer, biodynamic wines and organic soft drinks. As usual at Downtown Camper, sustainability, well-being and togetherness are important focal points and the offering has been carefully selected accordingly. Filled to the brim with goodies, the menu is largely plant-based and vegetarian, with nutritious, healthy and beautiful food that encourages an all-together sustainable lifestyle. Even the furniture and utensils have been hand picked and are made of recycled or rescued materials. Just the way we like it. Downtown Camper Café is a given hangout for the local coworking community and travellers that come from near and far. Get there by taking the lifts to floor -2, or do the walk around the corner outside.

The Nest Cocktail Lounge When it’s ”cocktail o’clock” - take a hike up to visit Downtown Camper’s pride and joy, the rooftop bar that sits on top of the building. A friendly, laid-back ambience, great music, and well-made, bespoke cocktails await you here. The Nest offers astonishing views of the city and tasty drinks created with much care and attention to detail. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the creative bar team uses seasonal ingredients in their own homemade syrups and infusions to differentiate the taste experience and offer guests something truly unique. As pioneers of the new low-ABV trend in mixology, The Nest also offers an impressing list of low-alcohol / non-alcoholic drinks

and mocktails for the guest who wishes to go easy on the liquor. Whether you’re an Old Fashioned, a Shirley Temple or something less decided, there’s something here to tease your taste buds. Enjoy your drink with some classic bar snacks like large green olives, salty crisps or roasted nuts. With its personal style, earthy tones and mile-wide views, The Nest is a hidden gem in the heart of the city, a hide-away for the knackered explorer, and a second livingroom for many locals. To go here, hop in the lift and press ”9”. It will take you straight up to cocktail heaven.

The Seven Summits of Stockholm WITH RENATA CHLUMSKA

Looking for an adventure beyond anything you’ve ever experienced? We teamed up with expeditioner Renata Chlumska and podcaster Husky to offer a unique and fun gamification adventure for everyone. We selected seven peaks in Stockholm to represent The Seven Summits: When you reach the top of each height, you can unlock and listen to Renata’s stories from her expeditions - all on the app Storyspot.

hours to go there and back from the basecamp. But keep in mind, it’s supposed to represent the world’s highest mountain! The seven heights that Renata and Magnus Ormestad, the founder of the Swedish outdoor podcast Husky, have chosen are:

Hammarbybacken Mount Everest (Asia), 8848 m Tantolunden Aconcagua (S. America), 6965 m On December 15, 2014, Renata became the first Swedish woman to Hagakullen Denali (N. America), 6190 m climb the highest mountain in every continent; a feat known as “The Skinnarviksberget Kilimanjaro (Africa), 5895 m Seven Summits”. For example, when you have climbed Hammarbybacken (representing Mount Everest in this challenge), you will get access to Renata’s story about the last fighting steps up the world’s highest mountain - and the feeling of having managed to reach the roof of the world. - The Seven Summits is a climbing adventure that few have the opportunity to complete for real, but now you get to take part in the highlights and at the same time embark on an urban journey of discovery. For a successful expedition, the basecamp is an important place and plays a central role. This is where you plan and prepare for the adventure, and this is where you return to relax and recharge. I cannot imagine a better basecamp than Downtown Camper. Renata’s stories are available now, in Swedish. An English version will be published on Storyspot this autumn. Seven Summits of Stockholm is an adventure where you choose when, what, with whom, and how you go about it. But no matter how you choose to do the challenge, Renata will keep you company when you stand at the top and look out over the city. - The mountains aren’t going anywhere and neither does the Seven Summits of Stockholm. Summer in the City There’s no doubt, Stockholm is one of the better cities to spend summer in. Built on 14 islands, the city offers a hard-to-beat blend between urban and natural exploring. Cool off by the beach after mingling with the hip crowd at Nytorget, dine at a Michelin star restaurant after discovering the wilderness on Djurgården. It’s all here waiting for you, so here are our best tips and tricks for you to conquer the city. Stay warm / cool off Sweden is fickle. It can be 35 degrees and blistering sun – or 5 degrees and raining cats and dogs. To manage expectations, Swedes have a saying: ”Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder”, which roughly translates to ”there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes”. So if you want to be on the safe side, pack your entire wardrobe before travelling here. Alternatively, if you’re less fussy, just bring a warm jumper or rain jacket, even if the weather is nice when you head out. Should it (against all odds) be a hot day, we mean the kind of hot day where you want to throw yourself into the nearest puddle, it’s not hard to find a place to cool off. The beaches come in various shapes and sizes, from cliffs and rocks to white, sandy beaches perfect for the family. But keep it classy (despite what you might have heard about Swedes), it’s best to wear a swimsuit, and don’t forget the sunscreen. Watering holes Like on all expeditions, it’s essential to stay hydrated. So fill up your thermos with tap water (we have some of the best water in the world) before heading out. Plan a few pitstops along your way - Stockholm has plenty of nice bars with terraces along the water or floating pontoons where you can have a snack and a drink whilst enjoying the beautiful locals, ahem, scenery. And be patient. If it’s a sunny day, you might have to wait in line. Swedes seem to double in numbers when the sun comes out, and they all have the same thing in mind - a “uteservering” (outdoor seating). So much for originality, huh.

Shelter Uh-oh, here comes the rain. As you might have gathered, we’re not guaranteed good weather all summer long. So like a scout, be prepared – there’s nothing worse than flat hair and dripping clothes when you’re doing the city. Luckily, there are great places to visit even for those inevitable “cats and dogs” days: Shopping malls, cafés, art galleries – or if you’re really ambushed by the rain – the nearest tree. Stockholm offers plenty of shelter. Or why not take the opportunity to discover Stockholm’s underground? The tube here is famous for its art that stretches from the suburbs to the Central Station. It’s known as the longest art exhibition in the world. Get around Public transport will take you anywhere you want to go - buses, trains, trams, underground or even boats. Just look for your nearest SL sign. If public transport doesn’t float your boat, then why not grab a bike from the hotel and head out along the many cycle paths that cover the city. Every day around 100 000 Stockholmers get on their bikes to go from A to B, and in rush traffic, they move fast. Fastest of them all is the bike couriers and “mamils” (middle-aged men in lycra), and in places like Götgatsbacken, you’ll need to watch your back; they take no prisoners. No bike-riding skills? Grab an electric scooter, roll down the street on a skateboard or take the tube. Escape the city Yes, Stockholm offers numerous green areas – inside and outside “tullarna”. If you feel adventurous, head outside the city and explore one of the many national parks/nature reserves, for example Tyresta, Hellasgården or Bogesundslandet. Nature is never far and it’s easy to get around if you have read through the previous part in this guide. You can go anywhere really, the freedom to roam, or ”Allemansrätten”, is the public’s right to access certain public and privately-owned land for recreation - but remember not to disturb, litter or destroy.

Ice cream for the people! It wouldn’t be summer without copius amounts of ice cream and the great thing is that Stockholm has plenty. In the hotel, in the kiosk on the corner, or the more hip-hop ice cream gelaterias. Our favourites are: Stockholms Glasshus, King Scoopa, Fryst, Mjuk Mjuk, Gelateria Amore and StikkiNikki to name a few. Ice cream is never far away when you’re in Stockholm. We also have an abundance of great flavours, from the classic chocolate and strawberry to the more acquired tastes like, yikes, garlic and asparagus. Too many choices giving you brain freeze - you can’t go wrong with vanilla. What’s SUP Fancy a unique view of the city while getting a great bit of exercise. SUP board paddling is growing in popularity in Stockholm and there are plenty of places to try it. Paddle along the waters of Kungsholmen or the quieter stretches of Långholmen, or try out the more hip region of Tanto in Södermalm or further afield on Sicklasjön. If you’re super supple, you can even impress the locals with a few yoga moves on your board, but watch out for the boats and the inevitable gust of wind knocking you off the back of the board though - and be sure you style it out. Time for sleep You’ve had your fun, now it’s time to sleep. If you want to go camping in the summer, as many Swedes do, prepare for a chilly night followed by a sweaty morning under the scorching morning sun. By all means, do not be discouraged - all we’re saying is that camping in Sweden is not for everyone. If you’re reading this article, you have probably already excluded the camping bit from your trip, and so you can relax: Downtown Camper is the only basecamp you need. In Sweden, when the sun is up for most of the day and night, you really can’t put a price on black-out curtains, let us tell you. And it just so happens that you have picked a hotel with perfect ones.

Back to Basics

The Nest is no ordinary retreat. It has been designed to boost you at a stand-alone level, with a very modern approach to wellbeing - no hushing, no pointing fingers, no fuss. This is a place where you can be yourself and kick back on your own terms while admiring the city from above. Aching limbs after a day of exploring the city? Take the lift to the top and discover The Nest: An urban retreat and a must-see for all guests. Leave behind the distractions of digital screens and busy traffic, embrace the vibe and discover a whole new take on wellness. Step into the sauna, shaped like a bird’s nest. Lather up in the experience showers, then head outside to the pool for a cold drink and some serious chill. Soon you will be ready for another day. Wellness on your terms The ”spa world” can feel a bit intimidating to many of us: “Do this, do that, and keep your voice down”. Basically, very far from how most of us want to retreat, right? The Nest offers a fresh approach to wellness. The guiding thought behind the concept is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle - one that you can keep up with. Today, we live in a digital world where we deal with loads of unnatural stress factors that affect our health and the way we socialise with others. People start to become aware of the importance of taking better care of themselves; to minimise screen time and focus on the meaningful relationships in life. The Nest offers an including, laid-back and utterly stand-alone experience - a new generation of wellness. Do it yourself There are no traditional spa treatments in The Nest. Instead, the offering has been shaped to encompass sustainability, education and long-term wellbeing. Hence,

the focus on DIY treatments, where the idea is to equip you with the know-how to best take care of yourself and your skin - a knowledge that can be applied and used long after you leave the hotel. It only gets better with time Another important thing to remember is that the tempo in The Nest will increase throughout the day. Visit early if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The music plays softer, and there are fewer people in the retreat. As the evening approaches, the music shifts to an ambient pool club vibe as the adjacent cocktail lounge opens. It’s the perfect time and place for an aperitif in the company of good friends. House Rules Welcome to The Nest - a place for new experiences and inspiration. Togetherness, wellbeing and fun is our focus here and hence, we encourage a mobile-free environment. You are not allowed to talk on your phone, but if you want to take a picture as a memory to keep from your visit, you are more than welcome. Discover flavours from around the world on our drinks menu, meet new and old friends, and enjoy great music to magical views from the top of Downtown Camper. Children are amazing, but up here, they are not our primary focus - we have other spaces in the hotel where kids can be kids. This is a place for adults to socialise and regain energy. Young adults from 16 and up are welcome to visit The Nest.

How to book As a hotel guest, you always have priority in The Nest. You also have a discount on the admission fee, but don’t forget to pre-book your visit. Towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided - just bring your swimsuit. Book your visit on: boka.se/thenestwellness
