Nature v City

Dos & Don’ts with Robin Trygg.

Climb the Wall

Change your altitude with Klättercentret.

On Top of the World

Take a hike to the rooftop retreat in The Nest.

Think about how much we have and yet how often we long for something different. Consider how much we love feeling safe yet yearn for new challenges. We raise our standard but long for the fundamental, the basic. We want to live in the city but be able to enjoy nature. To be able to pack only the most essential, put on our backpack and just leave. We want to improvise and create, seize the day, adjust to the wind and weather and discover new paths in the forest and new streets in the city. We are not only professional or private but everything at the same time, all the time. We are diverse, curious and exploring ’bon vivants’. To us luxury is never about the surface. It’s about connections and encounters, contrasts and inspiration. It’s having the opportunity to gather around the campfire instead of the TV to hear new stories, get new impressions – or suddenly find ourselves out of reach, not being online all the time. Luxury to us is doing something good for other people, and to feel good about ourselves, from the inside. So, put on your backpack and a pair of shoes that works for both an expedition into the unknown part of the big city and for the party tonight. Let us show you where the adventure begins – right here in the heart of the city.

Trust your Instincts, Follow your Gut Discover the flavours of comfort food from all over the world in Campfire Grill & Bar, the green, good and tasty from Downtown Camper Café, and magic brews and cocktails along with astonishing views in The Nest. From dawn to dusk - there’s a new taste experience to be had at Downtown Camper. Campfire Grill & Bar Downtown Camper’s main restaurant is where we gather around the open fire to share experiences, stories and to enjoy good food while meeting new and old friends. It’s the hotel’s heart and social hub, serving up an eclectic abundance of comfort food from all corners of the world.

At Campfire, we use the elemental force of fire and extract the flavours of the flames. Here, the fire is crackling together with the sound of good conversations, laughter and music.

Campfire is an open, cosy and warm meeting place for both Stockholmers and hotel guests, bringing The meal as a ”social ritual” is the real focal point back an including, spontaneous and honest social here, and in the kitchen we create exciting dishes code. Our grilled concept is a big flirt with the food close to our hearts. Inspired by childhood memories, truck trend, a conviction that good food is all about travelling, and the shifting seasons, we call our food enhancing simple and natural flavours. Meals you can concept ”comfort food” as it puts a smile on your face share with your friends and family, talk about, taste and spreads joy, love and comfort. from each other’s plates, and simply enjoy together.

Did you know we offset the emissions from all the meat we buy, through tree planting? This way, we do not only support small-scale farmers in Bolivia by enabling them to live off the trees, but the project also improves biodiversity in the Amazon region with super climate benefits as a result. In collaboration with ZeroMission and Plan Vivo.

Downtown Camper Café Food, friends and coffee. Here’s a new social hotspot to add to your list; Downtown Camper Café, located on the backside of the hotel. As usual at Downtown Camper, sustainability, well-being and togetherness are important focal points and the offering has been carefully selected accordingly. Filled to the brim with goodies, the menu is largely plant-based and vegetarian, with nutritious, healthy and beautiful food that encourages an all-together sustainable lifestyle. Even the furniture and utensils have been hand picked and are made of recycled or rescued materials. Just the way we like it. Located on one of Stockholm’s most happening walking streets, Drottninggatan, the café is a perfect pitstop on your city expedition, offering everything from all-day breakfast and tasty lunch food to coffee, locally produced beer, biodynamic wines and organic soft drinks.

The Nest Cocktail Lounge When it’s ”cocktail o’clock” - take a hike up to visit Downtown Camper’s pride and joy, the rooftop bar that sits on top of the building. A friendly, laid-back ambience, great music, and well-made, bespoke cocktails await you here. The Nest offers astonishing views of the city and tasty drinks created with much care and attention to detail. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the creative bar team uses seasonal ingredients in their own homemade syrups and infusions to differentiate the taste experience and offer guests something truly unique. As pioneers of the new low-ABV trend in mixology, The Nest also offers an impressing list of low-alcohol / non-alcoholic drinks

Downtown Camper Café is a given hangout for the local coworking community and travellers that come from near and far. Get there by taking the lifts to floor -2, or do the walk around the corner outside.

and mocktails for the guest who wishes to go easy on the liquor. Whether you’re an Old Fashioned, a Shirley Temple or something less decided, there’s something here to tease your taste buds. Food options range from classic bar snacks and charcuteries to camper-style tin cans with seafood. With its personal style, earthy tones and mile-wide views, The Nest is a hidden gem in the heart of the city, a hide-away for the knackered explorer, and a second livingroom for many locals. To go here, hop in the lift and press ”9”. It will take you straight up to cocktail heaven.

Climb

the Wall

Sometimes, all you need is a simple change of altitude. Klättercentret [the climbing centre] recently opened up a state-of-the-art bouldering facility and climbing gym inside Gallerian. With a brand new hangout in the heart of the city, they aim to make climbing a more accessible sport. To take this accessibility idea one step further, Downtown Camper and Klättercentret decided to team up and offer free climbing sessions to all the hotel’s guests - a great opportunity for curious travellers to discover a new adventure, just around the corner. Or in this case, on the other side of the street. We met up with Björn, responsible for Marketing, Events and Business Development at Klättercentret, to talk about this fantastic new initiative. Hej Björn! What about climbing makes you tick? From very early on, I felt a kind of fascination for mountains. But climbing was not really established as a sport in Sweden at that time. Instead, I skied a lot, and always on the steepest slopes. In 1990, I was down in Chamonix and to my disappointment, there was no snow. As I was down there and contemplating what to do with my time, an opportunity to try rock climbing appeared and I jumped on it. And what a feeling it was, I was completely hooked from day one! That summer, my friend and I climbed Mt Blanc. Nowadays, I find it much more fun to climb on lower altitudes, indoors. For the past 15 years, I have been doing mostly boulder climbing, which I still do 4-5 times/week. So, now you can get your kicks just around the corner. Exactly, I love Downtown Camper’s slogan ”Welcome to the great indoors” – that’s what we want people to feel when they come to Klättercentret; encouraged to stay active, be curious and have fun in everyday life. Sure, it’s fun to go on adventure trips here and there, but you get so much more out of life if you see the possibilities around you, in your close vicinity.

You dedicate most of your waking time to climbing. What’s the best thing about your lifestyle? Through the years, I have had the chance to meet and get to know many of the stars that I look up to. I work as a photographer at European Championships, World Cups and other competitions around Europe, from where I have loads of fantastic memories. Another really cool initiative that I’m very proud to be a part of is Legends Only - an invitation-only competition for ”the best of the best” in the climbing community. Klättercentret invites the six best climbers in the world to a long weekend in Stockholm. Downtown Camper has been our hotel partner for a while now – and the climbers stay and eat well here, hang out with each other, and then go off to compete in front of a crazy enthusiastic audience. It’s been incredibly appreciated by the competitors. For us beginners, what do we need to know before taking on a wall? Know this: Climbing is all about solving problems! Your head is just as important - if not more important - as muscles and body strength. Every time you climb, you are faced with new challenges, movements - and possibilities. But mostly it’s fun, so it’s a great form of exercise for those who don’t really like to exercise, if you know what I mean. If you give climbing a try – and I really think you should - no matter who you are, you will find a challenge at your own level, and you will grow as a climber. And if one wishes to be become more than just a beginner? What’s going to determine how good a climber you are going to become, is how far you can push your imagination, determination and resilience. It’s all up to you, really. Join Downtown Camper and Klättercentret for a fun Climbing Session every Sunday at 10.00. This activity is free of charge, just sign up in the hotel reception to book your spot.

Nature v City DOS & DON’TS WITH ROBIN TRYGG

When it comes to the great outdoors vs the city, it goes without saying that entirely different codes of conduct apply. Robin Trygg – one of our favourite adventurers / expeditioner and a Stockholm resident – has made a few observations. Here are some helpful dos and don’ts to keep in mind when adapting to your new environment. Hi or not to hi? Maybe the most important thing to remember: Always say hi to the people you meet on the path/ trail. Should you slip by without a word, people will think you’re a psycho. Funny enough, the exact opposite applies to the city: Sometimes even saying hi to a neighbour is wrong. Awful but true, but I figure there must be a good reason. Here’s my theory; survival of the fittest! If you are living the busy life, always on a deadline, running from A to B, you would probably be at risk being hit by a bus if you don’t watch your step. And there are simply too many people. So play it safe, be cool and keep on walking. What to wear In Sweden, we have a saying: ”Det finns inget dåligt väder bara dåliga kläder”, which roughly translates to ”there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes”. You get our point – keep it practical and useful when packing for the outdoors. Feet are important; make sure you have good footwear and stay dry. Less is not more here, bring colours - you want to be easily spotted in case hunters lurking in the bushes. In the city, everyone’s favourite colour seems to be black. This colour became a big hit a few years back and unfortunately seemed to have stuck with most people. A black t-shirt camouflages you well in town; you’ll blend in with the crowd. So go with black, and you are safe. Topics of conversation Focus on the moment. Talk about the weather, how long you’ve walked, how much berries or

mushrooms you found and rare birds. In the city, we live in the future. If you pass the first awkward phase of getting to know someone here (we’re talking the time with cynicism, scrutinising and finally, awkward conversation getting to know each other), topics of discussion may or may not move to more rewarding topics. You may also find yourself talking about stuff like career, real estate prices, whether you live in a rental or condominium, or why not the new hip bar down on the corner. What to eat While out trekking, remember to travel light. Freeze-dried food might not be the most fun, but it will keep you alive. Spice it up with some spruce shoots or maybe treat yourself to a nettle soup. My tip; use what you have, and get creative (but stay away from pretty, red mushrooms). Staying in the city? Well, maybe your cuisine will not be much different from spruce shoots and nettles. The trend right now is the local produce which you will see if you visit some of the many Michelin-starred restaurants in Stockholm. The most significant difference will be that hole in your wallet. Top destinations Most outdoorsy people will track down the most challenging and deserted tracks and enjoy the fresh air in solitude - the longer and trickier the terrain, the better. In the city, you might find yourself looking for the exact opposite: The most popular watering holes, you know, the kind of place you need to visit to prove you are up to date. Stunning views are never wrong though – works for both city people and nature lovers. And let’s be honest, no matter where we go we all like to be able to brag a little to our friends and get that new, cool selfie. Means of transportation Your legs play a key role in your being able to explore the wilderness. If you got legs, you can walk, run, climb, swim or even crawl through the

most challenging stints. No matter your 15 kgs of backpack or the weather. The longer the hike, the better, and time is no object. Getting to where you need to go in the city can sometimes be a challenge, especially as city people always seem to be short of time. If you can go where ever you need within 30 minutes, consider yourself a winner. Grab an electric scooter, roll down the street on a skateboard or take the tube. Here’s another thing; city people seem to train their entire lives to find the best shortcuts; especially if it’s raining. That new laptop case too heavy to carry? Uber is the way to go. Fitting in People travel from all around to walk the best trails in our vast country. Being genuine is of high value here, so be yourself. It’s as simple as that. And what’s more charming than a regional accent? In the city, what can I say, it’s more about fitting in, and you can’t fit in if you don’t talk like everyone else. So get rid of your accent or don’t - but at your own risk. How to stay Trust me, and I know what I’m talking about here – in the wilderness, you choose your basecamp according to the philosophy of ’the rougher, the better,’ and with no roof/tent, you get your million-star hotel in the sky. If you can’t sleep without it being pitch black, Sweden’s outdoors is not for you. The sun comes up around 3 am and goes down as late as 10.30 pm in the summer. Maybe the city is for you then: The basecamp highest on your list, then you’ve come to the right hotel. The trendiest and most centrally located, where you can sleep under a sky of artificial spotlights or block out any trace of light with black-out curtains. On Top of the World

The Nest is no ordinary retreat. It has been designed to boost you at a stand-alone level, with a very modern approach to wellbeing - no hushing, no pointing fingers, no fuss. This is a place where you can be yourself and kick back on your own terms while admiring the city from above. Aching limbs after a day of exploring the city? Take the lift to the top and discover The Nest: An urban retreat and a must-see for all guests. Leave behind the distractions of digital screens and busy traffic, embrace the vibe and discover a whole new take on wellness. Step into the sauna, shaped like a bird’s nest. Lather up in the experience showers, then head outside to the pool for a cold drink and some serious chill. Soon you will be ready for another day. Back to basics The ”spa world” can feel a bit intimidating to many of us: “Do this, do that, and keep your voice down”. Basically, very far from how most of us want to retreat, right? The Nest offers a fresh approach to wellness. The guiding thought behind the concept is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle - one that you can keep up with. Today, we live in a digital world where we deal with loads of unnatural stress factors that affect our health and the way we socialise with others. People start to become aware of the importance of taking better care of themselves; to minimise screen time and focus on the meaningful relationships in life. The Nest offers an including, laid-back and utterly stand-alone experience - a new generation of wellness. Do it yourself There are no traditional spa treatments in The Nest. Instead, the offering has been shaped to encompass sustainability, education and long-term wellbeing. Hence, the focus on DIY treatments,

where the idea is to equip you with the know-how to best take care of yourself and your skin - a knowledge that can be applied and used long after you leave the hotel. It only gets better with time Another important thing to remember is that the tempo in The Nest will increase throughout the day. Visit early if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The music plays softer, and there are fewer people in the retreat. As the evening approaches, the music shifts to an ambient pool club vibe as the adjacent cocktail lounge opens. It’s the perfect time and place for an aperitif in the company of good friends. House Rules Welcome to The Nest - a place for new experiences and inspiration. Togetherness, wellbeing and fun is our focus here and hence, we encourage a mobile-free environment. You are not allowed to talk on your phone, but if you want to take a picture as a memory to keep from your visit, you are more than welcome. Discover flavours from around the world on our drinks menu, meet new and old friends, and enjoy great music to magical views from the top of Downtown Camper. Children are amazing, but up here, they are not our primary focus - we have other spaces in the hotel where kids can be kids. This is a place for adults to socialise and regain energy.

How to book As a hotel guest, you always have priority in The Nest. You also have a discount on the admission fee, but don’t forget to pre-book your visit. Towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided - just don’t forget your swimsuit. Tel. +46 (0) 8 517 263 09 Or simply dial ”2109” from your in-room telephone. Young adults from 16 and up are welcome to visit The Nest.
