For everyone’s right to yoga.

Nature VS City

Dos & Don’ts with Robin Trygg.

Potions In Motion

Get to know Morgan from The Nest.

Think about how much we have and yet how often we long for something different. Consider how much we love feeling safe yet yearn for new challenges. We raise our standard but long for the fundamental, the basic. We want to live in the city but be able to enjoy nature. To be able to pack only the most essential, put on our backpack and just leave. We want to improvise and create, seize the day, adjust to the wind and weather and discover new paths in the forest and new streets in the city. We are not only professional or private but everything at the same time, all the time. We are diverse, curious and exploring ’bon vivants’. To us luxury is never about the surface. It’s about connections and encounters, contrasts and inspiration. It’s having the opportunity to gather around the campfire instead of the TV to hear new stories, get new impressions – or suddenly find ourselves out of reach, not being online all the time. Luxury to us is doing something good for other people, and to feel good about ourselves, from the inside. So, put on your backpack and a pair of shoes that works for both an expedition into the unknown part of the big city and for the party tonight. Let us show you where the adventure begins – right here in the heart of the city.

Potions in Motion If you have been able - we know it’s hard - to take your eyes off the breath-taking views from The Nest, you may recognise this guy. Born and raised in Värmland, Morgan brings that down to earth, south-western swag to the bar team in The Nest. Now Värmland is best known for its vast forests and great literature, and sure, apples don’t fall far from the tree. Morgan is kind of a bookworm and used to work at a lumberyard, but at Downtown Camper he is best known for his creative and gorgeous drinks. Speaking of apples by the way: Did we mention he runs his own cider brewery? This is of course when he’s not busy tending bar, studying full time to be a sommelier, entering bartender competitions, or taking care of his two cats. Phew, busy man. But we managed to nick some of his time. Hi mate, how did you get into the world of beverage? Well, it all started when I lived in Sydney many years ago. I met some amazing people there who inspired and pushed me to elevate my bar game and to expand my view of hospitality as a whole. The interest grew from there, and to this day I set my goals pretty high. I sign up for loads of bartender competitions because I want to evolve and challenge myself, and I’ve been included in a few cocktail books so far. That kind of acknowledgement motivates me even more, so I guess I’m sort of a competitor. Indeed you are. How does one compete in bartending? Cocktail competitions and bartender competitions can vary a lot in what’s being asked of you. Usually the win goes to the most original drink, but the focus can also be on replicability, style, original concept, innovation and so on. Although I sign up for a lot of things, I always have a few competitions marked down in the calendar where I want to put in that extra effort. My results varied a lot over the years - some wins and a heck of a lot of losses. The best thing about competing is that I get to meet some really cool people and have been able to travel to many places. It gave me both opportunities and life experience, and I’m most grateful for that. Tell us about the brewery. So, a few years ago, my mate and I set things in motion to start a nano brewery. We make a craft cider from the apples we pick at my friend’s farm in Värmland. Enter 2020 with all the stuff going on, we had to put the project on a hold for a bit. To make matters worse, this year we had one of the worst harvests in re-

cent history: Basically all organic crops caught rot early on, rendering the fruit useless to the process. But we’re looking to make a 2022 comeback! Working behind the bar, what’s it like really? Quite simply, I love it. I love coming in and making that first coffee while setting up the bar. I love meeting new people and making drinks for them. I love to see people having fun and being a part of their experience. And I love cleaning up the mess when everyone leaves. Adding to that, my colleagues at Downtown Camper are all great people, so life’s pretty good. What’s trending right now in the world of cocktails? At the moment, there are two big trends in the bar scene that I really enjoy. The first one is the ”no and low” trend. Meaning non-alcoholic and low-ABV drinks. It’s a fun and challenging way to work and less alcohol means you can try more things. We’ve been doing low-ABV drinks here at Downtown Camper for a long time, and some really neat ones have come and gone through the years. Sustainability is another hot topic. In a bar, nothing has to be thrown away if you are creative enough: In The Nest, old juice can become cordials and infusions. Expired dairy can be curdled and used to clarify the drink, and you can also extract the whey from it. You can even air dry used coffeegrind and make coldbrew. The options are many if you stay curious and open-minded, I could go on for hours talking about this... Last but not least, why The Nest? Needless to say, the view from up here is definitely a reason on its own. Moreover, this is a great place to visit if you want to learn more about cocktails and mixology: We’re very open-minded and the atmosphere is completely unpretentious so you can ask us almost anything. Whether you are a highball, tiki or old fashioned drinker, we will create some amazing cocktails for you.

You can find Morgan and his crew in The Nest, our rooftop cocktail lounge. It’s a laid-back, ambient sky bar specialising in bespoke, handmade cocktails inspired by the shifting seasons and with a taste palet from around the world. Except for astonishing views of the city, The Nest offers a friendly, international ambience, personal style and a truly unique vibe, attracting travellers, locals and urban explorers from near and far. Welcome to the ninth floor.

MENU This is where we gather around the fire to share experiences, stories and to enjoy good food while meeting new and old friends. The meal is the focal point, and in the kitchen we create exciting dishes close to our hearts. We call our cuisine “comfort food from every corner of the world. Food inspired by childhood memories, travelling and the shifting seasons that put a smile on your face and spreads joy, love and comfort. At Campfire, we use the elemental force of fire and extract the flavours of the flames. Here the fire is crackling together with the sound of good conversations, laughter and music.

Spark Sessions

Wednesdays at 17.30

Hey yogi, check this out. Now you can enjoy fun and energising yoga at Downtown Camper, while supporting an important cause. We will be hosting a series of fundraising yoga classes this winter, as part of a new collab with Warrior Yoga. All the money will go towards offering marginalised communities the opportunity to experience the healing practices of yoga. While yoga may be widely acknowledged and accessible for a small, privileged group, a large part of society never come in contact with this practice. The Warrior Yoga Karma Project provides free or low-cost yoga for less privileged communities and shelters supporting trafficking survivors, women fleeing abuse or experiencing addiction.

trafficking survivors. These women come to us with a lot of trauma, and it usually takes them some time to warm up to the teacher. However, as they build trust in us, they tell us that this is the highlight of their week and that they feel much better after yoga. One of our students applied for a scholarship to become a yoga teacher, and was accepted. She wanted to do this for the simple reason that she would then be able to offer the same opportunities to other people who have lost hope, just like she had” Cassie explains. “We are so happy to work with Downtown Camper. Through this partnership we will be able to host fundraising yoga on a weekly basis and engage both travellers from afar as well as the local community.”

Nature VS City DOS & DON’TS WITH ROBIN TRYGG

When it comes to the great outdoors vs the city, it goes without saying that entirely different codes of conduct apply. Robin Trygg – one of our favourite adventurers / expeditioner and a Stockholm resident – has made a few observations. Here are some helpful dos and don’ts to keep in mind when adapting to your new environment. So you can feel Trygg. Hi or not to hi? Maybe the most important thing to remember: Always say hi to the people you meet on the path/ trail. Should you slip by without a word, people will think you’re a psycho. Funny enough, the exact opposite applies to the city: Sometimes even saying hi to a neighbour is wrong. Awful but true, but I figure there must be a good reason. Here’s my theory; survival of the fittest! If you are living the busy life, always on a deadline, running from A to B, you would probably be at risk being hit by a bus if you don’t watch your step. And there are simply too many people. So play it safe, be cool and keep on walking. What to wear In Sweden, we have a saying: ”Det finns inget dåligt väder bara dåliga kläder”, which roughly translates to ”there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes”. You get our point – keep it practical and useful when packing for the outdoors. Feet are important; make sure you have good footwear and stay dry. Less is not more here, bring colours - you want to be easily spotted in case hunters are lurking in the bushes. In the city, everyone’s favourite colour seems to be black. This colour became a big hit a few years back and unfortunately seemed to have stuck with most people. A black t-shirt camouflages you well in town; you’ll blend in with the crowd. So go with black, and you are safe. Topics of conversation Focus on the moment. Talk about the weather,

how long you’ve walked, how many berries or mushrooms you found and rare birds. In the city we tend to live in the future. Once you pass the awkward phase of getting to know someone in Sweden, and get past the Swedes’ cynicism and generally reserved nature, more interesting topics of conversation are likely to evolve. You may end up talking about real estate prices, careers and whether you live in a rental or condominium. Or why not the new hip bar down on the corner. What to eat While out trekking, remember to travel light. Freeze-dried food might not be the most fun, but it will keep you alive. Spice it up with some spruce shoots or maybe treat yourself to a nettle soup. My tip; use what you have, and get creative (but stay away from pretty, red mushrooms). Staying in the city? Well, maybe your cuisine will not be much different from spruce shoots and nettles. The trend right now is the local produce which you will see if you visit some of the many Michelin-starred restaurants in Stockholm. The most significant difference will be that hole in your wallet.

most challenging stints. No matter your 15 kgs of backpack or the weather. The longer the hike, the better, and time is no object. Getting to where you need to go in the city can sometimes be a challenge, especially as city people always seem to be short of time. If you can go where ever you need within 30 minutes, consider yourself a winner. Grab an electric scooter, roll down the street on a skateboard or take the tube. Here’s another thing; city people seem to train their entire lives to find the best shortcuts; especially if it’s raining. That new laptop case too heavy to carry? Uber is the way to go. Fitting in People travel from all around to walk the best trails in our vast country. Being genuine is of high value here, so be yourself. It’s as simple as that. And what’s more charming than a regional accent? In the city, what can I say, it’s more about fitting in, and you can’t fit in if you don’t talk like everyone else. So get rid of your accent or don’t - but at your own risk.

Top destinations Most outdoorsy people will track down the most challenging and deserted tracks and enjoy the fresh air in solitude - the longer and trickier the terrain, the better. In the city, you might find yourself looking for the exact opposite: The most popular watering holes, you know, the kind of place you need to visit to prove you are up to date. Stunning views are never wrong though – works for both city people and nature lovers. And let’s be honest, no matter where we go we all like to be able to brag a little to our friends and get that new, cool selfie.

How to stay Trust me, and I know what I’m talking about here – in the wilderness, you choose your basecamp according to the philosophy of ’the rougher, the better,’ and with no roof/tent, you get your million-star hotel in the sky. If you’re not into the dark, Sweden’s winters are not for you. It gets pitchblack mid-afternoon and in the northern parts of Sweden, the sun never rises at all. Maybe pick the city instead: The basecamp highest on your list, then you’ve come to the right hotel. The trendiest and most centrally located, where you can sleep under a sky of artificial spotlights.

Means of transportation Your legs play a key role in your being able to explore the wilderness. If you got legs, you can walk, run, climb, swim or even crawl through the

A Place Called The Nest

The Nest is no ordinary retreat. It has been designed to boost you at a stand-alone level, with a very modern approach to wellbeing - no hushing, no pointing fingers, no fuss. This is a place where you can be yourself and kick back on your own terms while admiring the city from above. Aching limbs after a day of exploring the city? Take the lift to the top and discover The Nest: An urban retreat and a must-see for all guests. Leave behind the distractions of digital screens and busy traffic, embrace the vibe and discover a whole new take on wellness. Step into the sauna, shaped like a bird’s nest. Lather up in the experience showers, then head outside to the pool for a cold drink and some serious chill. Soon you will be ready for another day. Back to basics The ”spa world” can feel a bit intimidating to many of us: “Do this, do that, and keep your voice down”. Basically, very far from how most of us want to retreat, right? The Nest offers a fresh approach to wellness. The guiding thought behind the concept is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle - one that you can keep up with. Today, we live in a digital world where we deal with loads of unnatural stress factors that affect our health and the way we socialise with others. People start to become aware of the importance of taking better care of themselves; to minimise screen time and focus on the meaningful relationships in life. The Nest offers an including, laid-back and utterly stand-alone experience - a new generation of wellness. Do it yourself There are no traditional spa treatments in The Nest. Instead, the offering has been shaped to encompass sustainability, education and long-term wellbeing. Hence, the focus on DIY treatments,

where the idea is to equip you with the know-how to best take care of yourself and your skin - a knowledge that can be applied and used long after you leave the hotel. It only gets better with time Another important thing to remember is that the tempo in The Nest will increase throughout the day. Visit early if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The music plays softer, and there are fewer people in the retreat. As the evening approaches, the music shifts to an ambient pool club vibe as the adjacent cocktail lounge opens. It’s the perfect time and place for an aperitif in the company of good friends. House Rules Welcome to The Nest - a place for new experiences and inspiration. Togetherness, wellbeing and fun is our focus here and hence, we encourage a mobile-free environment. You are not allowed to talk on your phone, but if you want to take a picture as a memory to keep from your visit, you are more than welcome. Discover flavours from around the world on our drinks menu, meet new and old friends, and enjoy great music to magical views from the top of Downtown Camper. Children are amazing, but up here, they are not our primary focus - we have other spaces in the hotel where kids can be kids. This is a place for adults to socialise and regain energy.

How to book As a hotel guest, you always have priority in The Nest. You also have a discount on the admission fee, but don’t forget to pre-book your visit. Towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided - just don’t forget your swimsuit. Tel. +46 (0) 8 517 263 09 Or simply dial ”2109” from your in-room telephone. Young adults from 16 and up are welcome to visit The Nest.
