Campfire Stories We all need a community.
Think about how much we have, yet we long for something different. We love feeling safe yet yearn for new challenges. We raise our living standards, still we long for the fundamental, the basic. We want to live in the city but every now and then, nature calls us back. We want to be spontaneous; to be able to pack only the most essential, put on our backpacks - and just leave. We want to improvise and create, seize the day, adjust to the wind and weather, discover new paths in the forrest, new streets in the city. We are not only professional or private - we are both, all of the time. We are the generation of diverse, curious and exploring ’bon vivants’. To us, luxury is never about the surface. It’s about encounters, contrasts, experiences and inspiration. It’s having the opportunity to gather around the campfire instead of the TV, to hear new stories, get new impressions, or for just one moment find ourselves out of reach, offline, offgrid. Luxury to us is doing something good for other people, and to feel good about ourselves, from the inside. So, put on your backpack and a pair of shoes that works for both an expedition into the unknown and for the party tonight. Let us show you where the adventure begins – right here in the heart of the city.
Campfire Stories
After almost two years of social distancing, people are venturing out again - to get together, see the world, and catch up on all they’ve missed. And what can we say, nobody expected anything less. We are, and will always be, creatures of nature - social, curious beings - seeking a sense of community. In fact, five years ago, this very notion was the guiding thought in the making of Downtown Camper’s restaurant, Campfire. We were as dedicated then as we are now, to creating a genuine and warm urban escape. A place where you can forget your worries, be yourself, feel like home, and share some good food with your favourite people. The food Campfire is serving up an eclectic mix of comfort food from every corner of the world. The menu consists of taste experiences from near and afar, everything from seafood tacos and grilled cod, to rich burgers, or purely plant-based. We cook on charcoal, and draw inspiration from travels we’ve made, people we’ve met, and childhood memories we love. It’s simple and natural, no fuss: food you can understand, that brings a feeling of recognition yet in the way it’s prepared, surprise. “Our vision is to create an open, cosy and warm meeting place for both Stockholmers and hotel guests, bringing back an including, spontaneous and honest social code. Our grilled concept is a big flirt with the food truck trend, a conviction that good food is all about enhancing simple and natural flavours. Meals you can share with your friends and family, talk about, and simply enjoy together”, says Claes Benediktsson, Food & Beverage Manager at Downtown Camper. The fire In Campfire’s kitchen, the fire is essential. Not only as an element in the cooking process, but also in bringing that warm and cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. The feeling you get when you are out camping with friends, gathering around the fire, sharing stories, making memories. At Campfire, we use the elemental force of fire and extract the flavours of the flames. Using the grill is generally a healthier way to prepare food and additionally, preserves and enhances the natural taste of the ingredients.
The promise Working with the environment has always been imperative at Campfire: the chefs frequently review their assortment according to current reports on overfishing or reduced demand. Hence, suppliers are selected carefully depending on their sustainability policies, and all the fish is MSC labelled. All the meat served at the hotel has been Co2-compensated, meaning the emissions are being balanced out by the planting of trees. It’s a brilliant project in collaboration with Plan Vivo and ZeroMission promoting a sustainable development for both planet and people. The efforts are concentrated to a community of small-scale farmers in Cochabamba, Bolivia. In addition to climate benefits, tree planting contributes to an increased income for the farmers and improves biodiversity in the important Amazon region. “For us, it’s essential that we work with serious suppliers who think about the environment and the future. That’s why we’ve chosen to Co2 compensate for all the meat we buy in Campfire. I know we can always do more, and we will continue to scrutinise our processes to minimise our footprint”, Claes explains. Yes, Campfire is the place where guests meet up for breakfast, where families and friends sit down to share good food together, and the given setting for a night cap during the late hours. There’s activity here from early hours till late at night, it is a place that never sleeps. A buzzing, urban living room for a conscious, curious crowd. Because no matter if you come from the other side of the street or the other side of the world - we all need a community.

The Outdoor Loppis A SECOND-HAND MARKET FOR ADVENTURE GEAR & OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT, BY ADVENTURE STORIES x DOWNTOWN CAMPER
You have probably heard of ”circular economy” - it’s on everyone’s lips right now. In order to tackle the global threats of climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, we need to share, reuse, repair, and recycle existing products and materials. The great thing is that we all can benefit and contribute. By sharing, reusing, repairing and recycling, we can save money, time and energy, whilst building a strong and including community. After two years of social distancing, the Outdoor Loppis – our second-hand market for outdoor gear and adventure equipment - is back. It’s an example of how the concept of circular economy can be a great success. We are proud to present a new date for the Outdoor Loppis on January 30, and we hope you will be a part of it. Let’s hear it from Kajsa, co-founder of Adventure Stories, the company behind the event. Hi Kajsa! Let’s start with an introduction. Who are you and what do you do? I’m a person who is curious by nature and that’s probably why I spend most of my time surfing, snowboarding and exploring new things. I founded Adventure Stories together with my friend Malin a few years ago. I now run the company by myself, but our goal remains the same: to inspire people to discover their natural surroundings, respect it, and create an intention to live more sustainable. And that’s where the Outdoor Loppis comes into the picture: outdoor equipment is expensive – far from everyone can afford brand new gear. At the same time, loads of stuff just sits at home in people’s closets – often unused - while new items are being produced at the expense of our natural resources. We wanted to change that. We also plan trips, events and offer courses and training sessions where we share our most sustainable life hacks. For our new readers, what is the Outdoor Loppis about? It’s an opportunity to ”rehome” laid-off adventure and outdoor gear and clothes. The event is a fun activity that engages all kinds of people, young and old, and the idea is so simple: if you have stuff just lying around at home, if you’re tired of your old shell jacket, want to try a new activity but can’t afford new gear, or maybe you just want to meet with other curious people, then this
Save the Date
30 January ... and stay tuned for a second event, released on Facebook in January 2022.
is the event for you. You can sign up as a seller, or just drop by as a shopper. We also had book signings, stick-n-poke tattoo artists, photo exhibitions, and inspirational talks in the past – all greatly appreciated by the visitors. Where did the idea come from? We wanted to create a meeting place for a larger and broader target group in order to make it possible for more people to try new activities, get active, and explore nature. People who can’t afford, or feel it’s too costly, to buy brand new equipment, can make a real bargain here. Since we are working in the industry, we know the amount of equipment that is used, and unfortunately, wasted. Let’s say you want to start climbing, so off you go and buy loads of new, expensive gear. You give your new hobby a few months, and then you realise that ”this was not for me”. The equipment you spent so much money on now ends up in your closet, a constant reminder that you gave up. An important aspect is of course sustainability - it is not sustainable to buy new stuff for every new activity you want to try. And why buy a new item in-store, when there are loads of fresh finds on the second-hand market? Why should people come to the market? Because it’s like a festival - you will meet lots of new people. Most sellers sell out, and the shoppers leave with great stuff at a bargain price. Everyone’s happy and they are having a great time - I guess that’s what makes it a success. The popularity of the Outdoor Loppis just blew our minds completely. The first time we hosted the market, we had thousands of visitors. Don’t get me wrong - we knew we were onto something great - but it went way beyond our expectations. And now, having had two years to plan, let’s see what exciting new activities we have managed to muster for the upcoming events! The Outdoor Loppis is a public event open for everyone. Visit the event section on Downtown Camper’s Facebook page to read more, ask questions, or to sign up as a seller. Shoppers don’t need to pre-register, just drop in. The first event runs on January 30. A date for a second event during the spring will be released on Facebook the same month.

When in Stockholm - A Survival Guide
Stockholm, like any other city, has its peculiarities. As a visitor it’s sometimes easy to feel a little out of place. How do you walk? How do you talk? How do you find your way? Here are seven tips that will help you get into the game quicker. So relax, soon you’ll blend in like a proper local. Hi or not to hi Stockholmers are social creatures, but when meeting new people they can be a bit reserved at first. The opposite to people from Gothenburg who happily greet everyone. But in Stockholm, a silent nod is sometimes about all you get. Don’t be discouraged, but play it cool. If you are to greet a local say “Hej” (Hello) or try one of the slang versions “Tjena” or “Tja” (similar to “Hey” or “Ciao”). That will surely break the ice and you’ll get a “Hej” and a smile in return. Do as the pigeons - take the subway Over 60 different species of birds can be found in central Stockholm. One of the more commonly occurring species is the pigeon that, like the Stockholmer, is a social and faithful bird that often mates for life. Some of the more developed specimens have taken their urban life to the next level. They take the subway! The so called Farsta Pigeons can be seen getting on the train at the station of Hökarängen and getting off at Farsta Centrum. The birds have learned that the subway will take them to new places where they can find food. So, if you are in a hurry to get from A to B, do like the Farsta Pigeons and take the subway. Just keep walking Stockholmers consider themselves early adopters. They quickly absorb the latest, greatest trends and pay no attention to the fact that they live in a cold distant corner of Europe. Instead they act like they live in Manhattan. But they never seem to be able to master all the codes of metropolitan living: Like passing a person on the street without bumping into them. In the big cities like New York and London, you rarely see any collisions between two pedestrians, but in Stockholm they can get caught in an awkward rocking back and forth situation, where as one person moves to the right, the other moves to the left and so on until one person is able to break the spell and continue walking. Our advice here? Be safe and just keep walking.
Up and down on a bike Every day around 100 000 of the city’s inhabitants get on their bikes to get to and from work, and in rush traffic they move fast. Fastest of them all are the bike couriers and “mamils” (middle-aged men in lycra), and in places like Götgatsbacken by Slussen you have to pay extra attention, they take no prisoners. Exploring the city by bike has its advantages, though. You get to experience the street life, architecture, enjoy amazing views and all the lush and green open areas with all your senses. So if you really want to blend in, do as the locals and take the bike. But wear a helmet, don’t forget this is Volvo land. Sorry, no cash In a couple of years when the hipster scene in Stockholm has evolved even further, cash will probably be cool again. The beard-cladded men that today can be seen brewing IPAs will probably start forging their very own silver coins by then. But until then, your credit card is still king. The easiest method of payment is called Swish, a Swedish payment app. However, you’re gonna need a bank account in Sweden to use it. Go for a swim - all year round No we’re not kidding, apparently the Swedes have rediscovered water. In the dark, boring months during the pandemic, someone thought it would be a great idea to start a new mega trend: Let’s go ice swimming they said. It’ll be fun they said. Oh well, maybe not for everyone but if you’re feeling gutsy, by all means, go for it. Rumour has it that swimming in cold waters can extend your life by years and years...
Conversation What topics of conversation are suitable to have with locals? The weather is always a safe bet. Life in the city follows the shifting seasons and there is always a phrase that will fit the current forecast. “How wonderful to see the sun!” and “We have longed for this rain” or “Been a long time since we saw this much snow”. If you are in the neighbourhood Södermalm ask “How is Bajen doing?”. That’s the nickname for the local football team Hammarby. In the same area you’ll be very likely to find a hipster who loves to talk about locally brewed beer, sneakers and beard grooming. But if you really want to get the conversation going with a local, ask them about Slussen, the hub that connects Södermalm and the Old City. It has been under construction for the last couple of years, and everyone, and we mean absolutely everyone, has an opinion about the project. Ironically, no one seems to know when it will be finished. If all else fails you can always talk about Zlatan.

The Nest
The Nest is no ordinary retreat. It has been designed to boost you at a stand-alone level, with a very modern approach to wellbeing - no hushing, no pointing fingers, no fuss. This is a place where you can be yourself and kick back on your own terms while admiring the city from above.
cus on DIY treatments, where the idea is to equip you with the know-how to best take care of yourself and your skin a knowledge that can be applied and used long after you leave the hotel. Our products come from holistic bodycare brand Moonsun Organics - as natural as it gets.
Aching limbs after a day of exploring the city? Take the lift to the top and discover The Nest: An urban retreat and a must-see for all guests.
It only gets better with time Another important thing to remember is that the tempo in The Nest will increase throughout the day. Visit early if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The music plays softer, and there are fewer people in the retreat. As the evening approaches, the music shifts to an ambient pool club vibe as the adjacent cocktail lounge opens. It’s the perfect time and place for an aperitif in the company of good friends.
Leave behind the distractions of digital screens and busy traffic, embrace the vibe and discover a whole new take on wellness. Step into the sauna, shaped like a bird’s nest. Lather up in the experience showers, then head outside to the pool for a cold drink and some serious chill. Soon you will be ready for another day. Wellness on your terms The ”spa world” can feel a bit intimidating to many of us: “Do this, do that, and keep your voice down”. Basically, very far from how most of us want to retreat, right? The Nest offers a fresh approach to wellness. The guiding thought behind the concept is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle - one that you can keep up with. Today, we live in a digital world where we deal with loads of unnatural stress factors that affect our health and the way we socialise with others. People start to become aware of the importance of taking better care of themselves; to minimise screen time and focus on the meaningful relationships in life. The Nest offers an including, laid-back and utterly stand-alone experience - a new generation of wellness. Do it yourself There are no traditional spa treatments in The Nest. Instead, the offering has been shaped to encompass sustainability, education and longterm wellbeing. Hence, the fo-
