DEREK PRINCE

D

erek Prince (1915–2003) was born in India of British parents.

Educated as a scholar of Greek and Latin at Eton College and Cambridge University, he held a Fellowship in Ancient and Modern Philosophy at King’s College.

While serving with the British Army in World War II, he began to study the Bible and experienced a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ.

Out of this encounter, he formed two conclusions: first, that Jesus Christ is alive; second, that the Bible is a true, relevant, up-to-date book. These conclusions led him to devote his life to studying and teaching the Bible.

In 1941, shortly after Derek Prince gave his life to Jesus, the Lord spoke to him the following words: It shall be like a little stream, and the little stream shall become a river, and the river shall become a great river. The great river shall become a sea, and the sea shall become a mighty ocean, and it shall be through thee: but how, thou must not know, thou canst not know, thou shalt not know.

It has been God’s faithfulness to this word that has brought Derek Prince Ministries to where it is today and will continue to bring the ministry into the “mighty ocean”.

Bible Teacher Derek’s main gift of explaining the Bible in a clear and simple way has enabled millions of Christians worldwide to build their faith on strong foundations. His nondenominational approach has made

his teaching equally relevant and helpful to people from all racial and religious backgrounds.

Teaching, Preaching, Broadcasting Derek Prince is the author of over 90 books, 600 audio and 110 video teachings, many of which have been translated and published in more than 100 languages.

His Bible teaching in Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, German, Malagasy, Mongolian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish and other languages is continuing to impact lives via daily radio broadcasts, YouTube videos, podcasts, websites, and social media channels.

Our Worldwide Ministry Today, Derek Prince Ministries continues to reach out to Christians in over 140 countries with Derek’s teachings, fulfilling the mandate to keep on “until Jesus returns”. We do this through the outreaches of more than 45 DPM offices around the world.

As a ministry, we do not establish churches. We work with the local indigenous ministry leaders, mission workers and churches to resource them with effective Bible teaching for evangelism, discipleship and church growth.

Derek was a missionary at heart. Wherever he went, it was his desire to serve the Church in that nation. This is our attitude today.

Derek Prince Ministries (DPM) is an international ministry with over 45 national and outreach offices in different parts of the world.

DIGGING THE TREASURE OUT A clear vision for Derek Prince Ministries

O

ne of the best ways to sum up the biblical motivation for what we do can be found in this extract from Derek Prince’s teaching, ‘Do You Realise How Valuable You Are?’.

In this teaching Derek focuses on the parable of the hidden treasure as found in Matthew 13:44-46, and this is what he said: In Matthew 13:44 we read: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

If you think in terms of the history of the Middle East, how do you imagine that treasure got hidden in the field?

Well, probably an invading army marched through at some point in time. A man who was afraid of losing his possessions went quickly into his field and buried his treasure. But who knows what might have happened next? War may have swept into the region and carried him away forever.

He never got back, and the treasure lay buried in the field.

Years later, another man comes along and discovers the treasure.

Let’s say that this man is very crafty. He does not tell anybody about it. He hides it. He covers it up. And then he goes and buys the field as though it is just an ordinary piece of property. Maybe he even pays a slightly excessive price.

People marvel, “Why would he buy that field? There’s nothing in that field. It’s not worth what he paid for

it.” But once he owns the field, he digs up the treasure, you see. And then people understand why he bought it.

And I want to say that man is Jesus.

I know there are different ways of interpreting parables, but I want to interpret it this way. That man is Jesus. The field, the parables tell us, is the world. Jesus died for the whole world. He paid the price for the whole world, but it isn’t the world He wants. It’s the treasure in the field.

What is the treasure? – It is God’s people Jesus was willing to pay the price for an apparently worthless field in order to get the treasure which is you and me. That’s how much He cares for you and me. That’s how much He thinks of us. That’s how much we mean to Him. We are not unimportant, we are not insignificant, we’re not worthless.

We’re extremely valuable.

So valuable that Jesus gave His life to purchase us. God has no secondclass children. You are important.

You are very, very valuable to God. You’re special. Drop that cringing attitude. Drop that sense of worthlessness. You don’t have to apologise for being you.

It’s you that God wanted. He wanted you the way you are.

But He won’t leave you that way.

You’re not glorifying God by being so humble, because it’s not humility. In fact, it’s unbelief.

You are a child of God if you’ve received Jesus by faith. You’re part of the treasure.

I think the ministry of the gospel is digging the treasure out. If Jesus bought the field, He leaves it to us to dig the treasure out. And when treasure has been under the earth for a long while it’s often corrupted and tarnished and that’s part of the ministry too, to polish it up and clean it up.

Derek Prince believed that this is the ministry God had given him – to polish up the treasure that has been long underground.

Today, Derek’s ministry of digging out and polishing treasures is being carried out by hundreds of our outreach workers, volunteers and supporters like you who continue to make the legacy of Derek’s teaching available to spiritually hungry believers worldwide.

Turning converts into disciples in China Our China outreach began in 1984. Ross Paterson, a British missionary, had spent ten years preparing in Taiwan. He heard the Lord say to him to “take Derek Prince’s teaching into China”.

Ross obeyed God’s calling and over the last 37 years he and his outreach team have put Derek’s Bible teaching into the hands of millions of Christians in China and other Chinese communities throughout the world.

hina today is a major economic power and has the largest Christian population in the world.

Every day, thousands of people are coming to the Lord in China.

But this rapid growth is not without challenges. Many of these new believers struggle to understand the Bible. And, although they have good intentions to follow Jesus, they can go astray.

Moreover, many Chinese pastors are poorly equipped to disciple their growing congregations. They lack Bible training and they sometimes have little or no access to resources that can enable them to root their congregations in God’s Word.

We believe that God has called our ministry to help change this by enabling Christian workers and believers in China to dig deep into God’s Word using Derek Prince’s compelling Bible teaching.

Thanks to your generosity and that of others like you, our China outreach has resourced and equipped millions of believers with Derek’s teaching for nearly four decades.

Serving the church in Eastern Europe

I

n 1989 we established an office in the Netherlands to seize new opportunities for serving the Church in Eastern Europe by making Derek’s life-changing Bible teaching available to them.

Those were challenging times because years of Communist rule coupled with economic problems and constant persecution had taken their toll on thousands of Christians.

But they were also exciting times because, as the Iron Curtain fell, we were able to bless thousands of pastors and believers with much needed Bible teaching materials.

With your support, our outreach in Eastern Europe became a key player in enabling local churches to minister God’s life-changing Word to the multitudes of people who felt hopeless, disillusioned, and impoverished by decades of Communist rule.

After the ‘Velvet Revolution’ in 1989 I committed myself to serving in the church as a pastor and a Bible teacher. Derek’s books helped to discover my gifting and equipped me to teach others to take God and His Word seriously.

As a pastor I often shared from Derek’s teaching on forgiveness, grace, salvation, and the Holy Spirit with my church. Later, as lecturer and principal of a theological college, I used Derek’s teaching to train my students. Today many of them are serving as pastors, teachers and missionaries.”

Offering life-changing Bible teaching in the former Soviet Republics

ince 1993 God has used Derek Prince’s teaching through books, TV broadcasts and websites in various local languages to impact thousands of lives across Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and elsewhere in the former Soviet Republics.

Thousands of miracles of spiritual transformation have happened along the way as lives have been impacted by Derek Prince’s compelling Bible teaching.

Many families in Russia have found faith in Christ through Derek’s TV broadcasts.

Tahir from Russia tells the story of three local families who received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour by watching Derek’s teaching on a Christian channel. God has performed some powerful miracles in the lives of these families and led them to join a local church. Their changed lives are a powerful testimony to their friends and neighbours.

We praise God for the way He has used your prayers, generosity and Derek’s teaching to bring joy and restoration to many broken lives.

Keeping the light of Jesus shining bright across the Middle East erek Prince Ministries established its outreach office in the Middle East in the early 2000s in response to growing requests for Bible teaching resources from pastors and mission workers.

There seems to be no end to the persecution and suffering faced

by Christians in this region: lifethreatening situations in Iran; armed conflicts in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria; ongoing persecution in Egypt, Algeria and elsewhere.

Through our ministry of putting sound Bible teaching into the hands of Christians and Muslim seekers, we are helping them to draw strength from God’s Word and to see His light shine bright in the darkest places and through the hardest times.

Christians like Gulshan are making sure that God’s light shines bright in Iran.

Gulshan is an Iranian lady who came to faith in Christ in a neighbouring country. She received copies of The Divine Exchange and Extravagant Love by Derek Prince at her baptism. When she read these books, she felt that this teaching was too good not to share. So she decided to take copies of Derek’s books to Iran.

One morning Gulshan wrapped some of Derek’s books in plastic bags and put them at the bottom of a large bowl she later filled with cooked rice. The border police waved her through. And so this precious Bible teaching found its way to fellowships and hearts of Iranian believers.

For over 20 years, with the help of caring supporters like you, we have seized many opportunities to make Derek’s teaching available to thousands of believers like Gulshan in Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and elsewhere.

For instance, we have broadcasted Derek’s teaching on Christian TV and radio stations across this region, reaching millions of Arabic-speaking Christians and Muslims. We have also distributed thousands of USB sticks and SD cards loaded with Bible teaching.

Currently, we are engaging with new audiences on social media channels and running online discipleship courses for new believers.

Helping Christians in Africa to unlock the power of God’s Word in their lives

D

erek and Lydia Prince lived in Kenya from 1957 to 1961, when Derek worked as the principal of the Teacher Training College at PAG Nyang’ori near Kisumu.

They ministered in South Africa on numerous occasions and our outreach in southern Africa was officially launched in 1984. We sent out the first 120 packs of Derek’s materials to African pastors in January 1985 and our ministry has grown exponentially since then.

For more than three decades we have put Derek’s Bible teaching into the hands of pastors, Bible college students and evangelists in Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and elsewhere.

Alan Schunir is one of the thousands of people in South Africa whose life has been impacted

by Derek’s teaching. As a longtime friend, supporter and prayer partner of our outreach in Africa he recalls how the Foundation series helped him as a young believer to lay the foundation of his walk with the Lord.

Then, later on, reading Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose by Derek Prince opened up the door of God’s blessings waiting for him. “This is a wonderful teaching,” he said, “that equipped me to understand issues in my own life as well as showing and guiding me in my walk with Christ.”

“There are so many more teachings of Derek Prince that I could

mention that have impacted my life with the Word of God. And I have shared what I have learnt with others in my church.”

In 2010 we expanded our outreach to engage with more church leaders and believers across east Africa by printing and distributing 10,000 copies of Life-Changing Spiritual Power – a compilation of six key ministry books by Derek Prince.

Since then, with the help of supporters like you we have set up Video Bible Schools using Derek’s foundational teaching, which have been attended by over 1,000 students in Kenya and Uganda.

We have distributed tens of thousands of Bibles and nearly 200,000 books by Derek Prince in English, Swahili, Kinyarwanda (Rwanda) and Kirundi (Burundi these are the first translations ever into that language).

And we are now witnessing how God is using the Bibles and Derek’s teaching to transform lives in prisons, hospitals, the military, police, universities and schools. People who hated reading the Bible because they didn’t understand it are now receiving revelation and understanding.

Our vision for the future is to continue to make more of Derek’s teaching available to spiritually hungry church leaders and believers across Africa.

With your help, we will translate Derek’s teaching into more local languages, distribute more books, Mega Voice players, upload new materials online and establish new Bible schools.

Training and equipping church leaders and believers in the Indian subcontinent

At that time the main need was to print Derek’s books in Hindi and other local languages, and the first book that was printed and released at the Hyderabad conference was Foundations for Righteous Living (The Foundation Series).

Over 23 years later, Pastor Rex from Mudichur, Chennai, who was at the Hyderabad conference, told our workers: “… Foundations for Righteous Living literally shook my life and thinking. It transformed me and my ministry completely.

It was like someone had taken my brain out of my head and washed it clean of all the rubbish that was stored in there and then replaced it with a crystal-clear teaching of the foundations of the Christian faith.

Every pastor should own and study this book.”

Thanks to the prayers and generosity of friends and supporters like you, we have provided over 150,000 Bible college graduates with Derek’s materials through our

Graduate Gift programme.

Derek’s books and audio materials are a source of knowledge and spiritual encouragement to many pastors and evangelists as they step out from Bible School into their own ministries.

In 2010 we identified a huge need to train non-English speaking pastors in rural areas and we responded by creating a simple but effective Bible College curriculum using thirteen of Derek’s books on key areas of faith and ministry.

Our focus is on equipping pastors and mission workers who have little or no theological education and very minimal understanding of the basic doctrines of the Bible.

Thousands of pastors and local mission workers have benefited from this training and many of them are using Derek’s teaching they received on SD cards to feed their spiritually hungry congregations.

We have also been able to reach pastors in major cities throughout India, Sri Lanka and Nepal with Derek’s teaching, using books like Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose to challenge the idol worship and other idolatry practices that are so prevalent in this part of the world.

SUBCONTINENT

Making Derek’s teaching widely available in South America

O

ur outreach in this region started in the early 2000s as we sought to make Derek Prince’s teaching available to believers in every nation of this continent.

SOUTH AMERICA

This task is enormous but, as Derek Prince used to say, “The spiritual life is not about effort, but union with the Holy Spirit.”

That is why we look to see where the Lord is working, and we join Him in that work.

In spite of opposition by local authorities, we have printed over one million books by Derek Prince in Cuba and continue to print and distribute around 100,000 each year as demand for Bible teaching continues.

Literacy is low in this region.

That is why we have focused over the years on translating and distributing Derek’s Teaching Letters in Spanish because they are shorter and easier to read.

In addition to this, we have dubbed over 100 teaching messages and radio programmes into Spanish.

Radio and TV remain strategic tools for reaching more people in this vast continent.

Elvin Coaker, a missionary in Spain and Argentina, said: “Derek’s teaching has been a part of my life since I was 17 and has strengthened me spiritually during many years of missionary service. It has helped me make important decisions in my life such as the wife I have married.

Now I am a Christian TV director I have many opportunities to help transmit Derek’s teachings to Latin America, giving thousands of Christians a chance to experience spiritual restoration and revival.”

Today we are expanding our outreach in South America by growing our digital presence.

We are reaching wider audiences and are partnering with local ministries to make stronger disciples of Jesus.

With your help we have launched our DPM Español app offering daily devotionals and short videos to thousands of Christians who want to dig deeper into God’s Word.

Our vision for the future is to give more Christians in South America a chance to access Derek’s teaching through social media, DPM websites, books and a new online Bible school.

We look on in awe at what God is doing across South America through Derek’s Bible teaching materials.

Together we can impact one heart at a time as we seize new and exciting opportunities to put life-changing discipleship resources into the hands of those who need it the most.

Reaching new generations in the digital world

The impact of this renewed effort soon became clear with more people connecting with the videos every day, including a large number of new viewers who had not been introduced to Derek’s teaching before.

Over a period of just 90 days, our YouTube channel received over 751,000 hours of watch time from 2 million people. We would never be able to reach this many people without social media platforms.

By comparison, if Derek Prince himself had preached an hour-long message, every day, to an audience of 1,000 different people, he would have needed to have taught nonstop for more than 2 years to equal such a number.

This website serves as a landing platform to find local DPM websites and offices nearby. It will be further developed to have a powerful search facility covering the full extent of Derek’s teaching. What’s more, we are active on all key social media platforms, and regularly post a broad range of teaching videos, articles, quotes and general encouragements to build up the faithful and minister to the lost.

Our content is widely shared, creating a domino effect that extends our reach well beyond our current subscribers.

Derek Prince once said: “...we must be prepared to minister to future generations in the most effective ways. This may require methods of delivery and presentation different from the radio programmes, books, tapes, and videos that have thus far

ur Derek Prince Ministries office in the UK (DPM UK) was founded in 1986. Since then, it has impacted countless lives by making Derek Prince’s teaching available in a wide range of formats and through a variety of channels.

Impacting lives in UK prisons through Inside Outreach

Bringing the unreached to Jesus is of foremost importance to us. That is why we supply church leaders, evangelists and local mission workers with free resources.

Since 1995, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, thousands of inmates in UK prisons and detention centres have been challenged and blessed by Derek’s Bible teaching made available to them through our Inside Outreach ministry.

The impact that this outreach is making is summed up in these words of a prisoner who wrote:

or example, in the Middle East thousands of people are asking questions on our social media platforms about God and finding lasting hope and security. Hundreds of them are becoming followers of Jesus and signing up to our online discipleship courses.

Growing numbers of believers in Armenia, Romania, Russia and elsewhere are digging deeper into God’s Word by listening to Derek Prince’s Bible teaching online or watching his videos on YouTube.

In Ukraine, Iran, Cambodia and Nepal our outreach workers and volunteers have distributed thousands of boxes of hope to the isolated elderly and poor people – giving free food supplies and sharing about Jesus with them.

In China, India and Iran, pastors and believers have been blessed to receive SD cards loaded with Bible teaching to sustain them during these hard times.
