DÖHLE BODY • Degenerated bluish-colored material in neutrophil cytoplasm. • It is a sign of sepsis and occurs more frequetly after burn injuries. • It is seen also in the inherited condition of MayHegglin anomaly, together with giant platelets.

ARTEFACTS IN NEUTROPHIL NUCLEUS

• Degenerated nucleus – Due to long storage – Due to exposure to high temperatures.

Drum-Stick and Sessile body • This is one of the two X chromosomes in females. • It is inactive and pushed to sit next to the nuclear membrane in all cells. • In neutrophils it makes a small lobe for itself with a small stalk. • Depending on cell orientation the stalk may not be seen and it looks sitting on membrane (sessile) 08/13/14

Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Vacuoles • Toxic vacuoles • Vacuoles of storage, like NiemannPick’s disease • Vacuoles of inherited disorders leading to mental retardation, like Jordan’s disease. 08/13/14
