LARAMIE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS Cheyenne, Wyoming PCD and Norris Designs completed a masterplan for the Archer Events Center in 2015. This plan ultimately received support from the Laramie County voters in the general election.
ALVA ARENA AUTHORITY Alva, Oklahoma
PCD recently completed the design for a multi-purpose venue in Alva, OK. The venue includes an exhibition hall, exposition building, a 1,500-seat arena, a stall barn, and a warm-up arena. The new facility will be the home of the Wood County Fair and the Northwest Oklahoma State University Rodeo Team. When completed, the project will encompass over 250,000 square feet of event space and will allow Northwestern Oklahoma to attract a multitude of events and bring economic growth to the region.
The Laramie County Fair Board asked PCD to lead the design effort for the new facility which commenced in December of 2017. Tobin & Associates, Wood Engineering, AVI PC, Inberg-Miller, and Norris Design joined PCD in the design. Their expertise, attention to detail and “client-first” attitudes made the design progress very smoothly. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. 5R Construction broke ground on the project in the spring of 2018. They finished the project within the confines of a very strict budget and in time for the 2019 Laramie County Fair. Our “hat’s off” to them for a job well done.
Special thanks to the rest of the design team – the production architect, Tobin & Associates and the engineering firms of MEP & Associates and Holtzen Engineering Group. Norris Designs completed the landscape design and Betsch Associates provided overall facility design guidance. Timberlake Construction has been selected to manage the construction of the project and hopes to begin in the near future.

During the first four decades of the modern Olympic Games, 151 medals were awarded for a variety of the arts, including architecture. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who revived the modern games and founded the International Olympic Committee, considered art an essential part of the competition. The one caveat: every submission had to be sports-related. The Olympic Stadium designed by Jan Wils for the 1928 Games earned the architect an Olympic Gold in architecture. LANE COUNTY EVENTS CENTER Eugene, Oregon
Our friends at Johnson Consulting out of Chicago asked us to join them in the Market Demand Analysis for the Lane Events Center in Eugene, OR. The purpose of the study was to review the existing facilities at the site, study the marketability of the buildings and make recommendations for overall campus improvements. The goal is to provide updates to make the LEC more competitive in the event hosting marketplace.
Designing
Livestock Facilities from the INSIDE OUT
Today, a growing number of fairgrounds and expo centers are consulting Priefert Complex Design at the beginning of their projects saving both time and money.
If you know of a group with aspirations of a new facility or facility upgrades, we’d like to hear from you.
MADISON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS Madisonville, Texas The Madison County Fair Board retained PCD to complete a masterplan of their existing fairgrounds. Under consideration is a new multi-purpose arena with an attached warm-up arena and livestock exposition area, new RV locations and improved parking.
TEXAS TECH SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE Amarillo, Texas PCD has joined the Houston firm of Kirksey Architecture in the design of the new veterinary school for Texas Tech University in Amarillo, TX. The new vet school will address a shortage of rural veterinarians and offer an alternative to prospective students from the region.
McKENZIE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS Watford City, North Dakota PCD and ICON Architecture have been selected by the McKenzie County Commissioners to relocate and rebuild the fairgrounds. The project will consist of site selection, planning, designing and administering the construction of a year-round multipurpose campus. Stakeholder interviews have commenced, and different sites are currently being considered.
The Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine’s curriculum is designed to “recruit and train students who have a passion for serving agricultural and small communities, while also increasing affordability and real-world experiential learning. The model eliminates the need and expense of a traditional teaching hospital, making it cost-efficient and distinct from the state’s existing program. This approach utilizes expertise of existing veterinary practices through partnerships that will provide students more hands-on learning experiences and opportunities. Priefert is excited about Texas Tech’s future in this field as well as impact the graduates will have on the industry. Sun’s up! Guns up! Go Tech!

TAYLOR COUNTY EXPO Abilene, Texas
In 2014, PCD provided the Taylor County Fair Board a masterplan for expansion and renovation of the exposition center. This plan ultimately received overwhelming support from the voters in the November 2016 election. Joining lead architects Parkhill Smith Cooper, the team at PCD offered significant consulting services for all livestock related facilities. Construction of almost 250,000 square feet of new event space for Phase One was completed in the fall of 2018 just in time for the Taylor County Fair. Included in that project were the repurposing of the existing covered arena and the design of a new livestock barn. Phase Two is currently under construction. It will include an airconditioned multi-purpose arena with seating for 5,600 people and will allow Taylor County Expo the ability to attract the largest horse and cattle events in the country. When completed, Taylor County Expo will be able to offer up to three competition arenas and up to 1,200 horse stalls, or up to 4 competition arenas and 800 horse stalls, depending on the configuration and event requirements. The new and improved Taylor County Expo will be a game-changer for local tourism and economic impact.
