Loving Sunny Indianapolis by D on Em de
I
’ve lost count of how many trade shows that I have attended over the years in Indianapolis. The old Dealernews Dealer Expos were held there for a long time and it became kind of an annual tradition for me and my crew to leave sunny Southern California and get a couple of cold wintery days there, often with some snow mixed in. This year, however, it was a total reversal. While California was getting drenched with rain, it was all clear and mild the week we were in Indianapolis for Drag Specialties’ first Indy NVP / Product Expo. Some dealers even rode their bikes to the show.
Starting on page 28 is our report from the show. The whole event was patterned around the highly successful and long-running NVP held annually in Madison, WI. It’s a two-stage learning opportunity, meaning that it starts out with many of Drag’s vendors giving seminars to the Drag Specialties sales reps for two full days. On Day Three, the format changes and seminars were now presented to the attending dealers, as well as a full blown dealer show with lots of new products on display and manufacturer’s representatives and management there to answer questions. Drag Specialties’ parent company, LeMans Corporation, has an event planning team that always adds some extra atmosphere to their events and Indy was no exception. The Saturday night of an NVP
always is the night for the Meet & Greet. In Indy it was held in a unique event facility called The Crane Bay. It has, by its own description, “an urban, edgy, and industrial atmosphere.” You feel like you are in some old warehouse or shipping dock, and yes, there are real industrial cranes overhead. It was a perfect setting for attendees to have a great hosted buffet dinner with drinks, a stage, and bikes all around that were entered in the bike show. This was the first show in Indy using the time-proven LeMans NVP concept, but it surely won’t be the last. We have a couple of major feature stories in this issue. Our cover story is an overview of Cobra Engineering’s 2017 lineup. The guys
from Yorba Linda, CA have been super busy over the winter updating their product offerings for the new Harley-Davidson Milwaukee Eight and other new models. Check it all out starting on page 18. Another feature story is about the custom V-twin built up by Drag Specialties Northwest sales rep Benny Harwell. Starting on page 22, you’ll see how Benny worked with one of his dealers to take a bike that was only partially together, and how he took it from there to build this highly styled, fully loaded Bagger. It’s a super cool bike. Proof that there are still many good ideas out there for custom projects. ■

NEWS EVENTS Klock Werks Celebrates 20 Years
Story by Dennis Johnson / Photo courtesy of Klock Werks
T
wo decades ago Brian Klock and Dan Cheeseman were working in a small garage in rural South Dakota, scraping together parts for custom bikes they hoped would garner some magazine coverage while working on whatever came through the door. For Klock, it was a natural progression from spray-painting cars as a kid to being a noted custom bike builder. Cheeseman took a different path, opting to get into the custom world rather than pursue a career in finance or banking that his college degree had prepared him for. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Mitchell, S.D.-based Klock Werks has grown from that small business into a custom bike powerhouse while also producing a whole range of aftermarket products for the metric and V-twin bike segments. Klock says that it’s an honor to have had such longevity and success in the business he loves, and is proud to count among his friends legends like Arlen Ness and Donnie Smith. “To know that I’ve had an impact on our industry is humbling,” he says.
The entire Klock Werks family.
Klock’s passion for tinkering as a youngster led to an FXR project in 1988 and his first award-winning custom in 1990. John “Quigley” Patton then helped Klock open his business where they built a turbo-charged Bagger for his dad, Roger Klock. continued on page 14...

After this, Cheeseman came aboard as COO and the two set to building the Klock Werks name and style. In 2004 they moved into Klock Werk’s current 7,000 square-foot facility. In 2005, Laura Klock joined the team and it was here they started growing the company’s product line.

Business blossomed along with the V-twin boom and 2006 brought two highlights — winning the Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off competition with a custom Bagger, and getting into that Drag Specialties FatBook catalog. Klock said he is particularly proud of his long relationship with Drag Specialties, and still remembers when LeMans chairman Fred Fox told him he was going to build a bike for the FatBook cover. He ended up building a Shovelhead Bobber that appeared on the cover of the 2006 FatBook alongside a custom built by Tank at Tuff Cycles. Throughout two decades in business, through the successes and the failures, Klock says he’s remained humble, something he learned in those early days from Ness and Smith. “I’m not a quitter. I love motorcycles and I love motorcycle people,” Klock says. “No matter what happens, if you surround yourself with good people and you are good to those people in return, when you fall, they’ll be there to pick you up.” Drag Specialties Magazine would like to congratulate the whole Klock Werks team on its 20th anniversary. ■

NEW FOR 2017 COBRA HAS THE BAGGER MARKET COVERED
Cobra’s new 4-inch mufflers with the Contrast Cut Tip.
A
ll that recent rain in California might have done more than fill up the state’s bone-dry reservoirs and empty lakes. It possibly could have kept the Cobra R&D team hunkered down at their Yorba Linda, CA world headquarters, because Cobra is now shipping a host of exciting new products to start the 2017 riding season.
CONTRAST CUT MUFFLERS Cobra was early off the line with mufflers for the 2017 Baggers back in October, and now the company is following those initial releases with another new 4-inch muffler. This features a Contrast Cut Tip with fitments for the 2017 Milwaukee Eight powered bikes, as well as for the 1995-2016 models. The muffler uses the core treatments borrowed from the company’s popular 909 Twins series, giving these that classic deep Harley-Davidson rumble. It uses a louvered core for the 1995-2016 models, and a perforated core for the 2017 because the Milwaukee Eight engine responds better by making more power with the perforated core. Most striking, however is the Contrast Cut Tip. The thickmachined aluminum tip is coated black. It has a slight taper toward the rear and features scalloped, machined castle-cuts revealing the raw aluminum beneath. The updated Cobra logo is stamped on the side of the right-hand muffler. It’s available in chrome with a black tip or black with a black tip.
BAGGER HEADPIPES Two big products likely to be in demand for those 2017 Baggers are mufflers and headpipes – all the better to capitalize on the power of the new Milwaukee Eight engine. Cobra answers the call with its newly designed headpipes. Cobra’s headpipes take an unexpected approach beneath the heat shields, a design that’s apparent by the new ovalized collector heat shield in the area where the Power Port was previously located. In the new design, the headpipes route spent exhaust gasses into an ellipsoid pulse chamber, where those churning gasses accelerate before exiting equally into the left side and right side exhausts, producing improved scavenging and more power — all while running cooler than the stock system.

The headpipes are designed to work with the stock mufflers on the 2017 Baggers, or with Cobra’s mufflers for the 2017 models. They are available in black or chrome versions.
2017 BAGGER MUFFLERS Cobra’s mufflers for 2017 baggers are all new and built for that Milwaukee Eight motor. “We reworked our mufflers to fit the look and sound of the 2017,” said Tim McCool, president of Cobra Engineering. “Then we made sure they would perform as the customer expects, while giving those buyers a wide selection coming out of the gate.”

LIFETIME WARRANTY
909 TWINS: The 909 Twins 4-inch round muffler is unique on several fronts. First, the rear is finished with a rolled scalloped tip, not a simple slash cut. That rolled tip is matched with an inner core finished with the same scalloped cut. The inner tip is actually part of the constant velocity, tuned core that gives the muffler its great sound and performance.
Here are the mufflers that are ready for purchase, and all are available in black: RACE PRO: Its look is as distinctive as its deep throaty rumble. The Race Pro’s unique black clamshell mounting bracket sets it apart from any other muffler on the market, and that look gets even better with its black thin-line tip. A perforated core wrapped in a fiberglass pillow creates its deep sound.
4.5-INCH POWERFLO: With a 4.5-inch slim-line tip at its end, the PowrFlo muffler smoothly tapers to its 4-inch front. With easy installation, incredible sound and top of its class performance the PowrFlo is tough to beat. It’s 3-inch high-flow core offers superior performance with an incredibly deep sound.
NH SERIES MUFFLER: The Neighbor Hater muffler is for that rider who thinks too loud is just right. And, it’s more than just a loud-crowd pleaser because it also sounds great with its deep rumble. Like the Race Pro its 4-inch round body bells out to a 4.5-inch rolled tip.
So, it could have been those rainy day schedules keeping Cobra’s crack development team confined to the labs, cooking up new products, but in reality Cobra is always on the gas when it comes to dreaming up, designing and building great new products for the V-twin market.

ONE REP’S GROUND-UP BAGGER
M
ost people looking at this bike for the first time do a double take and start scratching their heads. Understandably. At a quick glance, Drag rep Benny Harwell’s Candy Apple Red ride looks like it might maybe be a customized Street Glide, and a nice one. Cool enough to show off, big enough to carry a rep’s samples, the extended saddlebags are Drag Specialties.
BENNY HARWELL
HARWELL’S SAMPLER SPECIAL
But then things like the Evo motor start being noticed, and the frame neck doesn’t look quite right either, definitely not Harley-Davidson. “Eventually someone will ask what’s going on here,” Harwell says, and then comes the story. It’s the tale of a Bagger bike built with hardly any Harley-Davidson parts at all. You could probably count them all on the fingers of one hand. See, this Bagger is a ground-up build, by Harwell, and since he’s been a Drag Specialties rep in the Pacific Northwest since 2005 most everything came right out of the FatBook. The project, Harwell says, kicked off with a routine call to one of his dealers, Cyclpath Motorcycle & Machine in Kirkland, WA. “I noticed they had a bagger frame in the shop,” he says, a Paughco part targeted as the start for a shop bike.
Hogtunes 6 x 9 saddlebag lids paired with some Klock Werks/Kicker speakers up front deliver lots of on-the-road sound.
Jeff Carney, the owner there, said he probably had enough spare parts laying around to complete the thing, maybe even enough for a second. Sensing Harwell’s interest here he suggested that he order one of these frames himself and see what happens. “I thought about it overnight, then called Jeff and said I was in,” Harwell says. Given he didn’t have any shop space of his own, he asked Carney about using some space for the build. The answer was yes, and the second Paughco frame was on its way. Harwell’s Bagger was off and running – only it wasn’t supposed to be a Bagger at all. “My thought was to use that FL platform and put together a strippeddown hot rod,” he says. “I guess things just kind of ballooned from there.” During the early days of the build, a build that went on for eight or nine months, Harwell was using a lot of stuff that was just laying around the Cyclpath shop.
Those are Dakota Digital’s great looking gauges filling the Drag Specialties fairing.
And then the plan for that stripped-down hot rod took a left turn when Carney ordered up a set of Dakota Digital gauges for a customer, who then backed out of the deal, and Harwell stepped up. Given he wasn’t planning on running a fairing, that was the next thing on order to house those gauges.

Confused? You’re not alone. That Tour-Pak and gas tank are about all the OE HarleyDavidson parts you’ll see here.
Naturally, the FatBook came through there, and when Drag Specialties announced its cool extended saddlebags, and Harwell got one as a sample, he hung it on and liked what he saw. Horse-trading with another rep netted its mate and in short order, with those Dakota instruments, the new fairing and the saddlebags the hot rod had transformed into a bona fide Bagger.
Lyndall rotors are teamed with RSD calipers and wheels.

A budget-build from the get-go, many of the parts on the bike started off as dealer samples. “I’d just show them off actually in use,” Harwell explains. Plans to use a take-off 2007 Dyna motor ended when that Twin Cam turned out to be beyond saving, so Harwell pieced together an Evo as a replacement. That motor is loaded up with a whole *Feuling valvetrain and oil pump setup, JIMS rockers, an *S&S Super E induction, *Bassani B4 pipes and a whole bunch of Drag Specialties parts and dress-up covers. The guys at Revolution Performance assembled the lower end using a Harley-Davidson crank Benny supplied, and the new 85-incher was mated up with a 5-speed transmission, another one of the few Harley-Davidson parts used anywhere on the bike. continued on page 26...

Benny took a first test ride in October 2013. By the spring of 2014 the bike was debugged, registered and on the road in regular use. For the first couple of years it was painted rattle-can flat black, but then Harwell got talked into a stunning paint job on a bike that truly deserved it. “That final step ended up costing almost as much as I already had in the whole motorcycle,” Harwell says. “But, I’m loving the way it came out.” Who wouldn’t, and besides, as much fun as this bike is to ride – it is, in a big way, Harwell says – it’s almost as much fun watching people scratch their heads trying to figure out just what the heck it really is. ■

Oil Made for V-twin Engines
W
hen it came to developing an oil to fill a Harley-Davidson’s tank, the engineers and chemists at FUCHS-Silkolene knew they needed the right formula for a tough job. The results of which are the company’s V-Twin 20W-50 oil, which are specially blended for modern V-twin engines. A unique formulation of premium, mineral-based fluids combined with Silkolene’s own V-twin performance additive packs, Silkolene’s V-Twin 20W-50 offers riders some important benefits they should know about. First of all, the V-Twin 20W-50 is incredibly stable. It’s been designed that way, formulated to easily cope with long and demanding rides, while maintaining its specified viscosity no matter how hard that engine is worked. That’s important, especially in an air-cooled Harley engine.
FUCHS-Silkolene developed its V-Twin 20W-50 oil specifically for Harley-Davidson motors, allowing them to operate at peak performance and help reduce wear, corrosion and oxidation.
Secondly, the additive packs in Silkolene’s V-Twin 20W50 have the ability to significantly reduce friction in all critical parts of the engine. The benefit here is a smoother power transfer, and an engine allowed to reach optimum performance faster with reduced resistance. All this translates into minimized engine wear and superior engine protection throughout the long, stable life of the engine oil. Silkolene’s V-Twin 20W-50 has also been engineered with a greatly increased drain down time. What this means is that during frequent stop-and-start use, critical components remain lubricated for longer periods of time after the engine has stopped. Because the oil takes longer to drain away from the engine’s internal components after a ride, the engine often will be re-started with a wet crank for further protection on startup and prolonged life for all internal components. Choosing motor oil, especially for a Harley-Davidson, is important business. With all that Silkolene’s V-Twin 20W-50 offers, your customers can enjoy peace of mind pouring this into the tank. This is oil developed especially for Harley-Davidson engines and it performs on all fronts. Not only will it keep critical engine components clean and well lubricated for peak performance and maximum efficiency, and provide added protection against wear, corrosion and oxidation, the V-Twin 20W-50 oil can even improve fuel mileage. ■

wiring extensions. The kits are available in Bagger or ape hanger styles, with 12inch, 14-inch and 16-inch height options. The handlebars themselves are 1¼-inch in diameter and have 3½-inches on center knurling. The bars work with standard controls, including a hydraulic clutch, and are machined for internal wiring and electric throttle control.
Magnum Shielding’s new Caliber Handlebar Kits come complete with throttle and idle cables, a clutch cable or hydraulic clutch line, brake lines, crush washers, hardware, and wiring extensions.
M
agnum Shielding is known for its quality and superior fitments, especially when it comes to the company’s popular Designer Handlebar kits. While Magnum Shielding is certainly going to continue growing that line, it has also introduced two entirely new product lines for 2017. The Caliber handlebars are a natural extension of the Designer Handlebar kits, and the stainless XR brake line is a strong, economical new braking option. Like the Designer Handlebar installation kits, the new Caliber Handlebar kits also combines control cables if applicable, brake lines and wiring extensions into a single package. The kit covers a long list of Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail and Dyna models. Thanks to Magnum Shielding’s experience and knowledge of exact fitments, the cables and lines are just the right length. The company has built its reputation on aesthetics and quality, and the Caliber handlebars have the same high-end quality and design found in their other Magnum Shielding products. The Caliber handlebars come as a complete kit, with throttle and idle cables (except 2008-2015 Dressers and 2016 Softail models), a clutch cable or hydraulic clutch line, brake lines, copper crush washers, hardware and

They are also 100 percent TIG welded and mandrel drawn for round bends, have all machined control mounts instead of being swaged, and come pre-loaded with E-Z pull-through sleeving which is factory-run through the bars to make wiring installations quick and easy. Magnum’s Caliber bars are manufactured as a premium bar at a mid-level price. They are available in one of two finishes, either high-luster chrome or a gloss black finish. All cable and brake lines for the Caliber kits are available in Sterling Chromite or the company’s Black Pearl finish, with matching fittings. The cables are a loweffort, high-efficiency design that meets or exceeds all OE specifications for fitment, construction and endurance. Likewise, brake lines exceed all DOT FMVSS-106 requirements and are designed to be ABS compliant. Line lengths are based on using two-inch risers, giving builders some flexibility. Caliber handlebar kits for dual disc models include an all-brazed manifold that eliminates leaks, alignment problems and unattractive threaded connections. Magnum Shielding strives for aesthetic perfection in their products, but looks were not the predominant factor in the design of the new Stainless XR brake lines. The XR stands for extreme response, and the brake line assemblies use the same highly polished, heavily chromed fittings that are found in its premier products. However, the brake hose itself was engineered to be very cost effective, and its

Typically, stainless steel brake lines consist of braided stainless wire that has been coated with a PVC outer jacket to keep the steel from scratching the motorcycle. XR brake lines are instead constructed with a heavy-gauge stainless steel wire that is impregnated with a tough nylon. The entire brake hose is welded together, making it much stronger and allowing it to resist expansion better than standard stainless steel brake lines. The result is a brake line that produces a predictable, efficient braking response, sold at an affordable price. Magnum Shielding, in business since 1982, designs and manufactures its products in-house in upstate New York. Products include an array of cables and lines — including mechanical and hydraulic clutch cables, brake lines, throttle cables and ignition wires — as well as handlebar kits.
The Stainless XR brake lines feature high-end, polished, heavily chromed fittings, and are engineered to provide superior braking response – all for an affordable price.
By keeping production in-house, the company is able to consistently match its lines in both color and weave, year after year. The in-house manufacturing capabilities include wire enameling and fabrication, Kevlar® twisting and winding, braiding, extruding, induction brazing, tube bending, machining, polishing, DOT FMVSS-106 testing and assembly operations within their many lean manufacturing cells. ■

wo-into-one pipes spell power and the Bassani Road Rage systems have been a performancefavorite with Harley-Davidson riders for years.
Applications for these power-packed 2-into-1s extend across the board. Every Harley model is covered — from Sportsters and Dynas to Softails and FLs. And, just last year Bassani upped the ante with the announcement of full stainless-steel Road Rage systems for a few select applications, beginning with Dynas and FXRs. These no-nonsense pipes, with their all-business and totally hand-welded construction, were an immediate hit. Well, those stainless steel Road Rage 2-into-1s are now available for Harley FL models, from 1995 to 2016.
Three new full stainless steel FL systems are available, and all share the same style of equal length and power building stepped headpipes. To complete the systems, Bassani is offering the choice of a Short Megaphone for a radical, racy look, a Long Megaphone or a Long 4-inch Straight Can muffler. These are hand-welded, full stainless steel systems. The head-pipes are equal length and for maximum power and performance they’re stepped. They start with a 1¾-inch diameter at the ports and open up to 17/8-inches before joining together in an advanced-design collector that empties into one of those three muffler choices, Short Megaphone, Long Megaphone or the 4-inch Straight Can. The mufflers all feature removable baffles and end caps. The End Cap for the Megaphones is a cool reverse-cone style. All systems come with 18mm and 12mm O2 ports with sensors, adapters, and plugs and there are partial heat shields, just big enough to cover enough of the headpipe for heat protection, but ending inches ahead of the collector to show off more of that stainless steel, the hand Tig welding and gold color when the pipe heat cycles. When Bassani announced those stainless steel Road Rage exhausts for the Dynas and FXRs, riders on those bikes took notice. Now performance-minded Bagger riders have their turn. ■

Ground-Pounding Power Performance Cams for Everyday Use
With COMP Cams’ new Thumpr cams, your customers can get the added kick – and notable sound – of a cam swap alongside everyday rideability.
Y
ou might want to check out the new Thumpr cams from COMP Cams. We’re talking brand new grinds – four performance-oriented Twin Cam lifts – that are sure to make a lot of your customers very happy. How so? Let’s start with the fact that the Thumprs idle with that unmistakable ground-pounding sound that turns heads, and up until now was usually associated with a serious engine built for serious action. You know, race bike stuff. And this is where Thumprs differ. COMP Cams has cleverly combined that window-rattling idle with lots of everyday friendly low- and mid-range performance, something rarely found in a race motor tuned for top-end running. With the Thumprs it’s the best of both worlds, the sound, feel and fury a customer wants from a cam swap coupled with hassle-free rideability and plenty of added kick throughout the powerband. It’s no surprise all this is coming from COMP Cams, a name hardly needing an introduction. Since 1976 this Memphis, TN., company has been a household name with gearheads all around the world. Riders and racers have counted on COMP Cams for camshafts aimed not just on peak power, but also on reliable power. The company has delivered this with a wealth of know-how and the use of state-of-the-art design and engineering equipment.
Ultra-precise laser measurement of valve motion and SpinTron testing machines evaluate all the new grinds, and then whole banks of precision CNC cam grinders, turning centers and mills produce those cams. Even OE manufacturers have turned to COMP Cams for the extra juice those cams provide. More than a few factory-endorsed/factory-branded camshaft upgrades were designed, tested and produced in Memphis, and still are. COMP Cams’ popular VThunder camshafts have been a FatBook favorite for years. With five different Twin Cam grinds offered they all deliver wide, usable powerbands pulling all the way up to 6,200 rpm, depending on the choice made. They’ve all featured the exclusive COMP Cams Endurance Ramp design, too, cam lobes that gently close the valves during the last few degrees of rotation to ease shock on the valvetrain as a whole, and enhance reliability. With lifts ranging up to .609, VThunder cams are proven performers and popular sellers. They had, and still have, a strong following and for good reason. They’re HarleyDavidson cams that work. But now there’s something brand-new — Thumpr grinds. With all that these cams are bringing to the game it’s a safe bet that the Thumprs will gain immediate success, too. Serious performance-cam upgrades, the Thumprs will really make a difference in 103-inch and larger Twin Cam

engines. They’re available for all the 2007 and later TC engines and are offered with lifts ranging from .569 to 624. Any bike running a set of Thumprs is going to turn heads at stoplights and bike-night parking lots. These are cams making a bold, radical-engine statement, and that wild-cam idle is combined with a wide and usable powerband. That big pull is there all the way up to 6,400 rpm, depending on the grind chosen. COMP Cams’ own testing on an otherwise-stock CVO 110 with a 58mm throttle body and 2-into-1 pipes showed an easy 14 horsepower, and 13-foot-pounds of torque gain with the Thumprs. There’s plenty of long-service-life reliability here, too. Just like the VThunder cams before them, the Thumprs are ground on 8620 steel billets for strength and durability.
They also have that Endurance Ramp technology; a design that allows big power gains while still being easy on the valves, lifters and the whole valve train. Speaking of that valve train, COMP Cams also has performance versions of everything there should it be needed or desired. There are Beehive and Dual valve-spring kits, tool-steel and chrome moly retainers, short- and full-travel hydraulic roller lifters, and adjustable tapered pushrod sets. Drag Specialties carries them all. Riders, racers and motorcycle manufacturers have relied on COMP Cams for years. With COMP Cams there’s always been plenty of performance matched with every-day usability and reliability. ■

he latest hot-number engine from HarleyDavidson is the Milwaukee Eight. Before that it was the CVO 110 and before that the 103. Great, but there are far more older Harleys on the road than there are bikes powered by those three hot-button motors, bikes powered by Twin Cams. These are bikes going all the way back to the 1999 model year and the original TC 88. Then there are all those 2007 and later Twin Cam 96s and the popular Evo. Bikes with those engines in the frame are still the prized possessions of countless riders everywhere and they’re bikes with some serious miles on their odometers by now — bikes ready for a little freshening up.
cylinders with nickel–silicon carbide (NSC) plated bores are big-bore kits with a difference, benefits extending way past just more cubic inches. Direct replacements for the OE pieces, Revolution’s kits all feature sleeveless all-aluminum cylinders. Aerospacegrade aluminum with those nickel-silicon-carbide electroplated bores, there are no steel liners. That NSC bore provides a much more lubrication-friendly surface than steel, as well as much higher wear resistance. The sleeveless design allows bigger bores in a bolt-on package, and a significant increase in wall thickness for more strength, stability and heat dissipation. There are also more efficient fins to further increase cooling.
A bolt-on big-bore kit makes perfect sense here. Better yet, why rebuild when you can just as easily upbuild? With a bolt-on big-bore kit, the engine doesn’t even have to come out of the frame. Properly installed, the result can be amazing say the horsepower junkies at Revolution Performance.
When it’s time to refresh one of the many Twin Cam-powered Harley-Davidsons out on the road, Revolution Performance’s bolt-on big-bore kits offer a quick dose of additional power.
In most instances, that proper installation means completing the job with a set of free-flowing pipes and filters, and a camshaft upgrade. At the heart of it all are those Revolution cylinders and pistons, netting a 98-inch package for the oldest Twin Cams, a 107-inch upgrade for the 2007 and later TCs, and an 85-inch kit for the Evos. In all those applications the all-aluminum Revolution Performance kits, highlighted by aerospace grade aluminum
The kits are offered in a variety of finishes, Natural, Silver and Black. All of the kits come with a lifetime warranty against warping and/or plating defects. Those cylinders are also completely serviceable. They can be sent back to Revolution and returned to as-new condition making them the last cylinders a rider might ever buy.
Depending on the application, the kit’s special design pistons are offered in a variety of compression ratios and everything needed for the freshen-up — cylinders, pistons, pins, rings and even the gaskets — is included. ■

ant to make some exhaust pipe-shopping customers happy? Make sure they get a good look at the MagnaFlow Bandits.
The pipes are available for 1986 through 2017 Softails, 1986 through 2017 Dyna models and 2004 and later Sportsters. These 2-into-2 pipes look great, sound great, are loaded with high-style detail, are designed to perform and are an immediate upgrade from stock. One other bonus? They’re priced just right. The MagnaFlow Bandits will comfortably fit into most any budget. Only $399.95 MSRP for the chrome versions, $449.95 in black. That’s a lot of value, style and performance, a big upgrade for the money. First of all, the Bandit will definitely turn heads. The cuttingedge contrast design MagnaFlow has used here instantly transforms the look of a bike. There are also added details like the exposed muffler tips and MagnaFlow logo bands in the black or brushed stainless steel finishes. How’s that for a classic XL profile? The Bandit exhausts feature clean, simple lines, a nice tone and a welcome performance boost.
The tone coming with all this is pure MagnaFlow. It’s a rich, deep hot-rod sound, but not so overly loud to become obnoxious or tiresome out on the road. There’s a noticeable seat-of-the-pants performance boost with the Bandit pipes, too, a nice strong torque pull on the bottom end coupled with a horsepower bump on the top. That’s a long list of features to make those pipe shopping riders take notice. All of these features are delivered in pure MagnaFlow quality. The pipes are 1¾-inch stainless steel with a durable Magna-Black coating, so they’ll never blue or rust. Inside those pipes there’s MagnaFlow’s Hi-Flow stainless steel and maintenance-free louver core baffles. Big, bold 2½-inch heat shields will give any bike a tough, dynamic look. The Bandit’s 12mm and 18mm O² sensor ports allow maximum tuning options using either stock Harley-Davidson sensors or wide-band replacements from the aftermarket, and plugs are included for nonsensor applications. Exhaust upgrades are almost always on a customer’s “to do” list. Do them, and their wallets, a favor by making sure they know about the MagnaFlow Bandit 2-into-2s. The classic good looks, traditional hot-rod sound, the boost in both horsepower and torque and MagnaFlow quality can be a pretty convincing package. Couple all that with a choice of chrome or black finishes and those really affordable prices and the Bandit looks even better. They’re available for Softails, Sportsters and Dynas and Drag Specialties has them. ■

The Affordable Largo 3D Wheels The trick, yet affordable, custom Largo 3D wheel from Coastal Moto is available in chrome and black cut.
hen it comes to setting a Harley-Davidson apart from the crowd there’s no denying the impact of custom wheels. There’s also no denying the cost. Quality custom wheels can be a wallet buster.
W
They’re custom cast and fully 3D contoured, and they’re available in two of the most popular sizes, a 21 x 3.5 front and an 18 x 5.5 rear. There are two finishes offered, chrome and black cut. The wheels come with a Two-Year Warranty on workmanship and finish and a Lifetime Structural Warranty.
Coastal Moto is looking to change that equation with its Largo 3D wheels. The Largo 3D is new technology for the aftermarket, the only custom cast wheels in the game, offered at a price that already has riders smiling.
Add it all up, riders have. Custom-contoured 3D looks, quality cast construction, easy installation and attractive prices, it’s a combination that makes the Coastal Moto Largo 3D wheels hard to pass up.
Available for just a few months now, and exclusive to Drag Specialties, the Largo 3D wheels were an immediate hit when they made the FatBook. A full set of Largo 3D wheels, front and rear, ready to go complete with bearings and valve stems installed, is priced right in the ballpark for what your customers could pay for just one custom wheel.
Applications cover 2008 through 2017 FLHT, FLHR and FLHX fronts and 2009 through 2017 rears for the same models. Part numbers are as follows. ■
Making things even more wallet friendly, these wheels accept stock Harley-Davidson lug-mount brake rotors in addition to those bearings and valve stems. The Largo 3D rear wheel also accepts the stock Harley-Davidson cushdrive and pulley. And, they’re available with intelligent ABS bearings so they’ll work with linked brake Harley models without any required ABS re-calibration or added modules.
Chrome rear non-ABS applications: p/n 0202-2102
Of course, a great price wouldn’t count for much if the wheels didn’t have the look and quality that your customers demand, but the Coastal Moto Largo 3D have both in spades.

Do it Right the First Time

lip through the FatBook and you’ll get tired of counting before you’ve tallied up everything Feuling Parts has in there. The number is well in excess of 200 parts.
It’s no wonder that riders, not to mention savvy parts managers and experienced service techs can get overwhelmed choosing the goods for a Twin Cam valvetrain update. And, it won’t just be picking the cam grind that’s causing the head scratching. With the engine apart this is no time to half step or take shortcuts, so the parts list here can stretch out to include new lifters, pushrods, bearings, gaskets, O-rings, and more. If your customer is going all-in, there will be an upgraded camplate and highvolume oil pump, too. This is true whether it’s going to be a set of relatively mild Reaper cams for a stock-displacement TC or it’s a pair of major rump-rump cams for a big-bore motor aimed at all-out horsepower. Putting this parts list together can get confusing. Not to worry, Feuling has made the process simple with its BulletProof Camchest Kit. These packages feature everything needed for a thorough cam swap in one box with with just one part number. Available in the OE +, HP+ and Race Series combinations, with gear drive or chain drive Reaper camshafts, there are fitments for all the 1999 through latest-generation Twin Cam engines, and that singular part number ensures that everything is right for the application. Feuling has taken all the work out of the ordering process, assuring an engine builder maximum reliability, peak performance and the coolest running Twin Cam with the lowest oil temperatures obtainable. And, there are no back-and-forth trips for anything forgotten. DISCLAIMER: NOT LEGAL FOR SALE OR USE IN CALIFORNIA ON ANY POLLUTION CONTROLLED MOTOR VEHICLES

Available grinds range from the workhorse .525s to the vicious power gains of .630 lift. Those 525s, incidentally, will work fine with the early-style stock valve springs. An OE+ Hydraulic Cam-Chain Tensioner Conversion Kit and a set of Reapers is an easy upgrade for any early Twin Cam Harley.
The HP+ and Race Series Combinations Designed for the 2007 and later Twin Cams (including 2006 Dynas) the Feuling HP+ and Race Series Camchest Kits include all necessary components for a thorough camshaft swap in these engines, all conveniently packaged under that one part number.
The OE+ Hydraulic Cam-Chain Tensioner Conversion Kit is a bolt-in replacement system for the power robbing spring-style chain tensioners in those first-generation Twin Cams.
The Early TC Engines Picking a starting point for an early Twin Cam swap — a 1999 through 2006 engine — is easy. Feuling’s OE+ Hydraulic Cam-Chain Tensioner Conversion Kit is the place to begin. This is a bolt-in replacement system for the power robbing spring-style chain tensioners in those first-generation Twin Cams, a system Harley-Davidson eventually replaced. Not only does it include a tough and flex free precisionmachined camplate with special-design Feuling hydraulic tensioners, the kit also features a high-volume Feuling OE+ billet oil pump, new low-resistance roller chains with matching sprockets, new Timken/Feuling bearings and all the gaskets, O-rings and ARP assembly hardware to put everything in place.
VALVETRAIN PARTS
Feuling even includes the Loctite and moly lube. There are packages that allow the original-style splined camshafts to be reused, and there are kits that accept Feuling’s Reaper Series Conversion Cams, cams featuring 1999 through 2006 inner journals combined with 2007 and later outer cam journals.
Feuling’s high volume oil pump is here, as is a high-flow Feuling camplate. Reaper Series camshafts are included with choices of .525, .543, .574, .594 and .630 lift. There are also upgraded hydraulic roller lifters, adjustable pushrods, Timken bearings, gaskets, O-rings, ARP fasteners, assembly lube, and Loctite. Beehive valve springs and lightweight retainers are available separately should they be required for the earliest applications with a more aggressive cam chosen. The result of all this, besides the big-time performance boost of those Reaper cams, will be 25 to 35 degree cooler engine temperatures, 15 to 30 degree cooler oil temperatures, 15 to 30 more pounds of oil pressure, a quieter, smoother engine, and the elimination of wet sumping, blow-by and oily air cleaners. ■

Vintage Vibe
Classic, Custom Chopper Parts
Cole Foster grips come in a variety of colorways, and add a nice touch to any vintage-styled build.
Manta Ray Smooth and Tsunami fenders
B
efore 2004, Tyler Malinky was a sign maker. That skill helped him design the logo for a new side business, Lowbrow Customs. Today, the custom and chopper parts company is a full-time job for both Tyler and his brother Kyle. Lowbrow Customs produces parts for modern HarleyDavidsons as well as vintage motorcycles. Tyler started Lowbrow Customs as the kind of shop he wanted and needed as a builder himself. “I had been building a vintage Triumph chopper and finding parts was difficult, and even worse was the customer service,” he says. “It often took weeks or months to receive the parts I needed, and there wasn’t any good source for custom and chopper parts at the time.”
“We produce how-to install and tech articles and videos on our products and make it a breeze for our customers to get our parts installed and get back on the road!” There is definitely a vintage vibe to Lowbrow Customs parts, and that is no coincidence. Lowbrow first made custom and replacement parts for vintage Triumph, BSA and Norton motorcycles. When Lowbrow began to produce parts for modern Harley-Davidsons, that design aesthetic carried over. One such part is the Narrow Sporty Frisco gas tank, made of one-piece stamped 16-gauge steel on the top and bottom. The tank has TIG welded seams and mounting tabs, a vented alloy gas cap and a carrying capacity of 2.5 gallons. The lathe-turned, hand-brazed threaded steel cap bung accepts 22mm threaded petcocks. The clean lines of the Manta Ray Smooth steel fender gives it a classic style that works with both vintage and modern bikes. The Manta Ray has a flared duckbill and subtle stamped branding, and it fits with 18-inch tires. The fender is available in 4¾-inch and 6-inch widths, in a choice of raw steel or aluminum.
Narrow Sporty Frisco gas tank
That desire for good customer service is one of the things that sets Lowbrow Customs apart today, as is the rarity of the parts offered by the company. “Lowbrow produces many parts that you simply cannot find anywhere else,” Tyler says. “We put a lot of time and effort into the design and production of our products and stand behind them 100 percent. We also offer free tech support for any and all of our products, anything from basic questions to assistance via phone, email or otherwise.

Classic Seats for Choppers and Rigids The original Signature II definitely has that oldschool vibe and a classic profile, while providing your customers with miles of comfort. Pleated or diamond stitch versions are also available.
T
here were some really great things to come out of the 1970s, like Star Wars and punk rock. The decade also saw the launch of both LePera Motorcycle Seats and one of the company’s classic seat series. The Signature II series has lasted for decades because motorcycle riders want the perfect seat silhouette for a
vintage bike — or one inspired by the past — while still enjoying a ride that feels modern and comfortable. The Signature II solo and pillion seats are designed for choppers and rigid bikes. The solo seat has dramatic lines that provide plenty of cushion and back support without being bulky. The seat comes in pleats with buttons, pleated or diamond stitch options for the finish. The Signature II is available with the solo and pillion or just the solo seat. Like all of LePera’s seats, the Signature II is built on a sturdy powder-coated steel baseplate that is carpeted for protection. A long history and continuing popularity mean that the Signature II is one of LePera’s staple seats. Vintage V-Twin Upgrades
For those wanting more, there is a Barnett Extra Plate Kit with Kevlar friction plates that offers 20 percent more surface area than OE and a full set of heavy-duty springs. Choosing that Scorpion package delivers a lot of features. Its precision-machined billet aluminum pressure plate, increased surface area, strong coil springs and steel inner hub, add up to a tight grabbing, smooth action, progressive clutch with lots of increased capacity.
Barnett has clutch upgrades for all your early Big Twin-riding customers, with applications for 1941 to early 1984 Harley-Davidsons.

ot everyone rides a Twin Cam or a new Milwaukee Eight. There are a lot of early Big Twins out there and Barnett has clutch upgrades for them all.
Depending on the application riders on 1941 to early 1984 Harley-Davidsons can get a complete Scorpion Clutch Package, from discs to pressure plate. They can also opt for a quick carbon-fiber disc upgrade and run it wet or dry. 5

The Scorpion also has a double roller bearing to eliminate that wobble so common with older OE clutches. There’s a Lock-Up version, too, a Scorpion that grips tighter the faster it spins. Your customers can also choose early application clutch packs, either the Carbon Fiber kits or that Extra Plate Kit with the Kevlar friction plates and heavy-duty springs. They’re both easily installed, and both are an upgrade from OE. All of it is made in the USA. ■

Clutch Kits for Harley-Davidsons
W
hen a Harley-Davidson needs a new clutch pack, BDL has it. It doesn’t matter whether it’s for a classic 1941 model or one of the newest 2017s. And, in all those applications, these easily installed BDL kits will be a step up from OE all the way. For starters, every BDL clutch kit comes with largefootprint Performance Kevlar friction discs. Bonded on durable 6061 T6 aluminum cores, and with a continuous ring of friction material versus the OEM individual-puck style, the grabbing surface is significantly increased. Greater surface area, along with deep groove patterns for efficient heat dissipation and oil circulation, makes for a more durable clutch plate. Additionally, there are tempered-steel drive plates and every clutch pack has its stack height pre-set for a trouble-free installation. BDL’s Extra Plate High Performance Clutch Kits come with one extra friction plate and opposing steel plates for even more grabbing power. Even with that extra plate they still retain the same stack height as OEM, an important

consideration with any replacement clutch. Those Extra Plate kits weigh the same as a stock clutch pack, too, and they include stronger springs for the early-style coil spring and late-model diaphragm spring applications. Sooner or later every Harley is going to need a clutch and BDL has them all. They’re competitively priced, easily installed and are proudly manufactured in the USA. ■

BATTISTINIS LEADING AXLE LOWER FORK LEG SETS Fork legs are machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and are of modular construction allowing for various color combos Feature an axle that is offset over 1 1/2˝ forward and around 1/2˝ lower to give a perfect trail when fitting a 23˝ front wheel into any touring bike A true bolt on part Leading Axle fork legs simply replace the stock lower legs without the need to remove the fairing, trees or frame geometry; fork legs have the corrected trail built right into the legs Fork legs utilize stock brakes, fender and all fork internals and reduce the downtime and labor cost that is normally associated with previous methods of switching to a 23˝ front wheel A simple change out that improves the ride and handling of motorcycles when adding a bigger wheel and adds a tough new stance to the motorcycle Fork legs feature a wraparound fender mount that has the corrected alignment built in to allow the use of the stock fender; no need for any extra raise up kits The caliper mounting brackets are held in place with 2 x 1/2˝ bolts to ensure extreme rigitity Axle can be fitted either way and is secured with an axle cap which protects the leg from possible damage if cross threaded Keeps full suspension travel with a 23˝ front wheel, no need to install travel limiters or uprated springs With the axle further forward the “high point” of the tire is now more forward making the wheel and tire look larger and gains frame and tree clearance; that’s why using the offset fork leg provides more travel than just using raked trees Patent pending design provides the best ride on a 23˝ wheel conversion

Upgrades for 2017 Touring Bikes
A
re your 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring bike customers looking to get serious about harnessing all the power that’s packed into that Milwaukee Eight motor? We’re talking about some serious performance on tap. Well, look no further than Vance & Hines’ lineup of products for that new model FL. Right off the bat, there’s that Fuelpak FP3, the smartphone-enabled device that helps customers unlock the full potential of their machines’ fuel management systems. Designed to work with Harley-Davidson models using the new HDLAN (CAN/BUS) system, the Fuelpak FP3 can be controlled through an iPhone or Android smartphone via Bluetooth.
The FP3 can be used for everything from the standard Autotune feature to recalibrating engine parameters and mapping for exhaust systems and other performance upgrades. Vance & Hines offers an expansive library of calibration and fuel maps developed by its own team of performance specialists. These maps can be uploaded and installed through that iPhone or Android device, and customers can troubleshoot existing maps simply through the smartphone app. That same smartphone can be used for displaying such data as cylinder head temperature, voltage, rpms, gear selection and other vital information.
Vance & Hines’ popular Fuelpak FP3 is now configured to work with the new Milwaukee Eight engine that’s powering all 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring models.

The Power Duals are fitted with oxygen sensor ports to allow for an easy power upgrade over stock. They’re available in a chrome finish. Not your average headpipes, the Power Duals feature a hidden Power Chamber that helps generate more horsepower and torque.
Also standard for the FP3 is an Autotune feature, that makes use of the OE sensors to allow for precision tuning for specific requirements, such as tuning for different grades of fuel or for aftermarket exhausts or air cleaner systems. In fact, that Fuelpak FP3 can be used to set up a set of Power Dual head pipes, which now have fitments for 2017 FL models. The Power Duals might look like a regular set of head pipes, but integrated inside them is Vance & Hines Power
If slip-ons are what your customers want for that FL, point them toward the Eliminator 400s. These are 4-inch mufflers that are tuned to give those Baggers a deep and aggressive roar and a nice little performance boost. Fitted with race-inspired CNC billet end caps, the Eliminator 400s can also be used with optional quiet baffles for a more moderate exhaust note. And, of course, that FP3 can be used to reprogram the bike’s fuel management system after they’re installed. ■

Chamber that’s hidden behind a contoured heat shield. This chamber helps generate more horsepower and torque than the stock setup. The right-side design of the pipes also eliminates heat issues on the left side of the bike for passengers, and helps protect vital engine components and side covers from heat damage.
