Dr Carolyn DeanThere are hundreds of cookware products available on the market today, made from a huge variety of materials. While many of us may assume that they would not be for sale unless they were safe, this is often sadly not the case. Materials such as plastic, Teflon and aluminum can all leach toxins into food.
Iron cookware may not be suitable for everyone as it is very heavy and takes longer to heat it. It can also be expensive if you buy new.
Even stainless steel is not always safe, as it often contains a nickel alloy. There are several safe materials you can choose to prevent harmful toxins from entering your meals through the cooking process.
Glass
Cook-safe glass will not release any toxins during the cooking process. However, you have to be careful to heat glass cookware evenly, as there is a chance it could break. Always use the correct sized burner for the pot to prevent damage.
Iron
Iron cookware may not be suitable for everyone as it is very heavy and takes longer to heat it. It can also be expensive if you buy new. However, iron cookware lasts for decades, is easy to clean and almost impossible to damage.
Ceramic
Ceramic baking dishes are typically relatively inexpensive and easy to find. Pots and pans may be harder to source and cost a little more.
