Drew Kelly pays close attention to his physical fitness levels because exercise allows him to stay energized for his work in sales. He has competed in a number of Ironman Triathlons in Connecticut and is always working on training for the next one. There are a few useful pointers that you can keep in mind for doing the same, especially if it is your first attempt.

Build A Base

Without having a base of fitness to work from you are going to find that your efforts falter. Develop the standard of physical fitness you need to be able to complete each section of the triathlon individually at first. From there you can work on building the stamina required to bring it all together, plus you will have a better idea of the challenges you face when taking on the Ironman Triathlon.

Bike Fit Is Important

Many triathletes are so focused on getting their hands on expensive, high-performance bikes that they often neglect some of the basics, which can be disastrous in endurance racing. Above all else, your bike’s fit is the most important thing. An expensive bike will mean little if you start to experience discomfort while riding, so get yourself measured and make any adjustments that are needed to saddles and handlebars.

Stay Motivated

You should have a goal in mind at all times when competing in the Ironman Triathlon. For many, this will be achieving a personal best time, though novices may just want to get through the experience. This goal will give you something to stay focused on and keep you motivated.

Drew Kelly, of Connecticut, is an Ironman Triathlete.
